I've got a Savage heavy barrel, 12 twist 22/250. detachable mag, with camo stock, like new with very low round count, $600. Exceptional shooter that shoot's sub 1/2 moa groups with Hornady 53 grain VMax. Ammo available with it! One of the best out of the box firearms I've ever encountered. Can ship to your dealer but prefer face to face transaction. I'm in Tucson. PM me for pics

    300 wsm load development

You may want to wait till the Chrono shows up. You wasting your time looking for groups first. Don't worry about that. Most reloaders start backwards. You start with finding a max load first and best extreme spread with the best powder that fits to accomplish these goals. Then you work your way to best group! Start with fireformed brass. Use a moderate load to fireform your brass. Use cheap bullets to fireform. Keep this in mind, great groups with bad ES usually means you've chosen the wrong powder. Low extreme spreads and bad groups usually mean you've chosen the wrong seating depth. Start at magazine length and work your way back 5 thousandths at a time. Don't use your buddy's pet load, every rifle is different! Use a powder with a temperature coating if you're loading ammo that's going to be shot several month's later. Don't load any more ammo than you'll be using in years time. Just a few do's and don'ts!

    New build actions

You can't beat the Kelbly Atlas Tactical action. For $1100 it's a great buy and the after purchase service is awesome. I'm putting together a 280AI for a friend with the Kelbly Atlas action and I also bought one last year for my 300 Norma build with a .750" diameter bolt. Jim Kelbly and brother Ian honored all my specifics. They are the best. That Remington will work fine but don't put all that extra money into blueprinting, it doesn't help that much and in the end it's still just a Remington action. I have a 280 AI that I built on a 700 action and I replaced the bolt with a one piece bolt from Pacific Tool and Gauge and it shoots as good as my Stiller action. Good luck with the Proof barrel.

What to do with Savage 110FP?

Hoss with all due respect, if I had that rifle I'd leave it as is. Start working out till that rifle becomes light as a feather!! I can't believe this 7 pound rifle crap! I've always carried a 10 pound plus rifle and I'm plus 70!! By the way that doesn't include a 10 pound pack with spotting scope ammo, water and food! What has this world come to?

    Estate attorney suggestion? Tucson

Consult the Arizona Bar Association with specifics.
  9. Original ammo is going for $60-70 per box of 20 and it's pretty old ammo. Buy 22/250 Lapua brass and neck it up to 25 cal. I suggest Lapua because it's annealed but you could use any brand. Lube the inside of the neck when working up to 25 caliber. This will prevent collapsed shoulders or neck splitting. If possible neck up to 243 first then 257.

    Looking for help 36b

You're right they're close to those does but you're not looking well enough for the bucks. Bucks are in bachelor herds and very nocturnal. In a few weeks they'll lose their heads to those does. Open your eyes to the northwest sides of ledges and canyons. Always on the shady side till dark!

Temp stable powder for a 7-08?

Did you shoot that group that you said was .766" with magnetospeed attached? Also did you deploy a wind flag while shooting group? That's excellent ES and velocity on that load with an excellent group. I wouldn't worry about temperature stability as long as you're within 40 degrees of your actual shooting conditions. If you have to try other powders RL16 and RL23 both have a temp coating as well as Varget. I recently developed some loads with RL17, RL16, and Varget and RL17 won out. My worry about working up a load here and then shooting in California would be the difference in humidity!
  13. It appears there are many misinformed people regarding large firing pins on small primers. Pretty much there's not much advantage of a small primer vx. a large primer pocket unless you're shooting paper and probably only benchrest paper. And you better be a great wind reader to see that advantage! A large firing pin on a small primer is not a good idea. Law of inertia says it's wrong. Take your pick. It isn't worth a disabled rifle in the middle of a hunt or a match! Not speak of what can happen to your eyes!!

Large firing pin vs small primer

shooting iron sights are but a dream for me. Nowadays it's a 15X55 nightforce for me!LOL! I shoot 30BR UBR bench and 1000 yard BR. And it's BATs and Kelblys! Although my 40X 30BR still burns alot of Arse! My 40X has been a 308, 6BRA, and now a 30BR SRBR with 4K rounds in the 30BR and still shootin' in the 1's at a hundred! Fun stuff!

Large firing pin vs small primer

By the way I change firing pin springs every 1000 rounds for my match rifles. Consistency is next to Godliness! LOL!

Large firing pin vs small primer

As you see above in the pic I posted it's primer bounce off the firing pin (inertia) and there isn't enough support around the primer to support it with a large firing pin. Lapua small primer pocket gives me lower and more consistent ES. You lose that consistency and ES with a large firing pin and large primer.IMO it's about barrel harmonics! I blanked my first primer back in the early 90's in a 223AI. Now you would think a Remington 40X would have a small firing pin for that former cartridge I bought it in (222), nope! I had the firing pin turned to .062" and the bolt bushed for it, wow that 223AI shot like never before! ILike I said before in another post you're not going to see the difference if you're not a good wind reader!

You're welcome. I found that cross reference in my "Blue Book of Guns" FYI.

ISO magazine for JC Higgins 22 bolt action rifle

Found cross reference. It's a Marlin model 80. Try Jack First, Numrich arms, and Ebay.

ISO magazine for JC Higgins 22 bolt action rifle

Your best bet would be to cross reference that model and see who made it. Sears J.C. Higgins rifles are derivatives of Winchester, Savage, Stevens, Marlin, Mossberg.

    Ar case swipe help

Your 58g. loads are on the maximum side but your 80g. loads are middle of the road. With that long freebore I would think the only thing left is excessive shoulder bump. How much are you bumping shoulder?

Large firing pin vs small primer

Better case life by going to a small primer pocket, great stuff! Since better case life is usually due to good reloading technique like not over sizing brass and shooting lower pressure loads that's fantastic! By the way I've been using UBR 308 small pocket brass for 30+ years.

Wtb Lapua 6.5 creedmoor srp brass

Every rifle is different and so are reloading techniques. It isn't worth the damage that it can cause.

Wtb Lapua 6.5 creedmoor srp brass

My 260 AI , 6CM, 6X47 Lapua,, 6BR and my 6.5 CM all have had the bolts bushed and firing pins turned down to .062". Problems occur when you're at the top end of the load. Blanked or partial blanking. Gre-tan in Colorado does an excellent job of bushing bolt and turning firing pins. I'd say the Axis probably doesn't. Of course if you didn't specify when you bought your custom actions they may have large firing pins.
