    12A-12B

I've seen three cow elk in DeMotte Park during the archery deer hunt in all the years I've been on the Kaibab. Being G&F wants to get rid of the elk on the Kaibab, it's too bad you can't have the choice to either harvest a deer or elk with your deer tag. Good luck on your hunt!

    12BW info

Deer will be slowly migrating into the unit throughout your hunt. If it's cold and snowy you'll be in for a pretty good hunt, if not find water and locate deer nearby. Either way you'll see plenty of does and smaller bucks! Good luck on your hunt!

    13B help and info

Your likely in for a tough hunt, but the opportunity at a good buck is there with a lot of scouting! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

    Those are great bucks Lance!

    Archery Strip Question

I would hire Matt Shimberg, or at least get a scouting package from him. With it being dry this Spring the big bucks will be harder to find and there won't be as many. I've spent time in both units, and with a couple scouting trips you'll likely spend enough money for a scouting package. Last year it was a tough hunt for most archery hunters, but I bet a lot of them still enjoyed the awesome country and the challenge the strip archery hunt can provide!

Probably sick they didn't find this one

Nice find! Looks like a great buck!

    Disturbing Trend on CWT.com

Personally I look for larger antlered animals when I scout and hunt. I enjoy the challenge of trying to find a buck a bull that has survived to a mature age, or antlers with unique characteristics. I also have just as much fun viewing all wildlife I encounter, no matter what size of antler is on their head. I choose my hunt choices based on where a higher population of larger antlered animals exist, and weapon that I feel I can draw within a reasonalble amount of time. I still feel Arizona should increase the amount of quality hunts available for both elk and deer. That doesn't mean all units need a high population of larger bucks and bulls, but I think one unit per region south of the ditch should be managed for a higher population of older class elk and deer. With that said, I still support all youth to be encouraged in anyway possible with enough available tags to ensure hunting to grow into our future. The tags currently set aside for the youth for all species are encouraging in my opinion, and there's far more opportunity for the youth than 10-20 years ago. It's every sportsman's choice as to what tag they want to apply for, and what size of trophy they want to pursue when given that opportunity. It's up to each individual sportsman to respect all animals that are harvested no matter what size of antlers are on it's head.
  13. Got all the applications in last night! Thanks for the update!
  14. Called on in a tom in the evening two days before the last day of the hunt. About an hour before dark he started gobbling and came in to about 15 yards, in unit 7 2011.

    23/27 Dec Muley hunts

Unit 27 with a 12% success rate on a rut hunt is pretty surprising. If all hunters reported their success only three hunters were successful, sounds like a tough hunt!

    Time to learn unit 10

Good luck on the 10 hunt! If you can show us some stories and pics of the hunt, should be a great tag!

    End Bonus Points!!

I think Arizona has a great bonus point system in place, but it could be improved by squaring the points like Nevada does! The squared method would easily clear out top bonus point holders while keeping intact the 20% bonus point pass, and residents still allowed 80% of the random draw tags. The squared system is the fairest way to go IMO, because each additional bonus point will mean a whole lot more! In the current system a guy with 1 point gets 1 random number, while a guy with 5 points gets 5 random numbers. In the squared system it would be a totally different outcome when a guy with 1 point gets 1 random number, while a guy with 5 points gets 25 random numbers. I honestly think we'll see this system in place someday in Arizona; mainly because the current bonus points held by each hunter wouldn't have to change, it's fair by improving the odds significantly for a hunter who has applied for a longer period of time, it adds a ton of value to each additional bonus point gained, and it's not a preference point system!

    Draw Odds Calculator

Great information posted by flatlander! If you don't want to pay the $25 and would like free information on how many people are putting in for tags by bonus points, you can get it right from the azgfd website! It may not be quite as detailed of information on draw percentages, but it will tell you how many people are applying per unit by bonus points. To get there go to the azgfd website, click on big game draw on the left side, scroll down to draw cycles and hunt permit application deadline days, scroll down to bonus point process, scroll down to actual bonus point reports, then pick your hunt by genus/hunt number. Also in a different window load the 2012 big game regulations so you can look up hunt numbers to a unit. Also remember Arizona doesn't break down residents and non-residents by bonus points, so for the most part there's no exact way to tell how long an Arizona resident may take to draw in most units. if your a non-resident you can tell when you'll be guaranteed a tag a bit easier because your likely in the 10% max bonus pt pass for the harder to draw units.

    Swaro Tripod Adaptor...

Yes. You'll have to change the sworo stud out on your binos to the outdoorsmans stud and then the outdoorsmans adapter will fit your 15s. As far as the spotting scope goes whatever tripod head u are using, the 1/4 20 base plate screw on the head should just simply screw into the bottom of your spotting scope. Thanks for the information on the adapter!

    Swaro Tripod Adaptor...

So the Outdoorsman adapter will fit the 15x56 swaro's and swaro's spotting scopes?

Can you believe this!!! (B of A error)

Sounds like Bank of America took a tag from you this year.......A guy at my work had a similar issue with Bank of America this year. He was informed that his card would be inactive and they would be sending him a new card just 1-2 days before you could update your credit card information on the azgfd website. Luckily he was able to update his credit card info at the last second, but it sounds like he may of been one of the lucky ones. If there's this many people having issues with Bank of America around the time of the draw and that they decline azgfd charges, than they definitely have something against guns and hunting. I wouldn't ever trust banking with these guys and I think a lot more hunters need to be informed to stop banking with this bank!
