I find interest in many outdoor activities and pursuits. I try to get out hiking as much as possible, but I also enjoy rockclimbing, fishing, camping and photography as well. I recently acquired a taste for hunting and found that I now have the 'bug'. Hunting is in my families blood and it almost skipped a generation in my case.

About Me

I've lived in Arizona just about all of my life and I've lived in Flagstaff, Az for the last 16 years. I've been in love with this region since I was a young boy however. I've always enjoyed the outdoors and have explored many wild places in this state. Honestly, I must say that the North Rim and the Kaibab Plateau is just about my favorite haunt and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I've always indulged in outdoor activies (hiking, camping, fishing, rockclimbing and photography) but recently discovered I've a passion and bent for hunting. Or rather, DEER hunting. I was the generation that hunting almost skipped.

I was born in Laredo, Tx which I've come to discover is today, one of the hottest whitetail hunting regions around (the Golden Triangle). Both of my maternal grandparents were from south Texas and both became very passionate Big Brush deer hunters. Actually, my Grandfather "Whit" was a Texas State Game Warden in Webb County Texas during the true formative years of whitetail management and conservation. He also worked with the legendary Al Brothers, though Al has mentioned that my Grandfather knew it all!! My Grand father was a Webb County Warden from 1944 till about 1968-70? Him and my grandmother were both big time whitetail hunters and I've still got the last few mounts from their collection to prove it!!

My Maternal grandparents and my dad both spent much time in their lives hunting on the legendary Callahan Ranch which was just north of Laredo. Unfortunately I've had few opportunities in my life to hunt anything, till this last winter. I spent several months in south Texas this past year. Luckily for me, my Uncles extended kin happen to have a family ranch just outside of Zapata Texas. And pretty much only family, friends, and guests hunt there. And it was pretty raw south Texas brush. Low fences and cattle. No 'deer farm' styled high fence land here. I had the chance to spend nearly all of hunting season going out to this ranch on weekly trips to catch-up on the many years that I had missed hunting with either side of my family. I think I must have spent more time hunting than your average Texan ever gets to.

I finally harvested my first whitetail buck and missed a couple of truly nice (larger) bucks during the season. But now I find that I have a new interest and passion for a new sport. Now that I'm back in Arizona, I'm itching to apply what I've learned to an environment and a landscape that I've come to know intimately.
