You know how many trail cams guides and outfitters run up there? They know where they are and those guys' kids and wives are probably the only people who will have any success. +1 for the winslow or verde hunt for the average joe.

The rim road is tempting, with lots of glassing opportunity but it will be like a highway during your hunt. I would suggest heading more into the cedar country at lower elevations north of the rim.

Female Bobcat ready for taxidermy FOR SALE
nateNAU replied to couesaholic65's topic in Classified Ads
Did you even read my posts? I had no problem with you selling that bobcat. I was having a discussion with bc777 about the law. Kind of what we do here on CW but you wouldn't know with your 9 posts all in classifieds.- 45 replies

Female Bobcat ready for taxidermy FOR SALE
nateNAU replied to couesaholic65's topic in Classified Ads
No. It's says you shall not take wildlife OR discharge a firearm from a vehicle. That's not what it says. But ok It is. It's a single sentence with compund subjects. I agree. I don't think picking up any dead critter should be illegal. I pick up road kill coyotes all the time in the winter and I definitely don't mind the op trying to make a buck- 45 replies

Female Bobcat ready for taxidermy FOR SALE
nateNAU replied to couesaholic65's topic in Classified Ads
It is illegal. That's the letter of the law. Now law enforcement has discretion to cite you or not. Most cops that respond to animal strikes are probably dps or sheriff and know little about game law but they still probably give about half of people tickets for "failing to drive to the conditions". Thats what I got when I creamed my elk.- 45 replies

ARS 17-301 A person ((shall not take wildlife)), except aquatic wildlife, or discharge a firearm or shoot any other device ((from a motor vehicle)), including an automobile, aircraft, train or powerboat, or from a sailboat, boat under sail, or a floating object towed by powerboat or sailboat except as expressly permitted by the commission. No person may knowingly discharge any firearm or shoot any other device upon, from, across or into a road or railway. I guess as long as you aren't in the car when it hits something you are ok.- 45 replies

I don't think they reissue the tag. It just gets burned unless you donate it. You may consider that. You don't lose your points and would give a vet or child with life threatening illness a great hunt.

I live, eat and sleep 7e(mainly because I live here so I can hunt every day of a hunt, at least before and after work). 7e is not your typical elk unit in arizona and can seriously break your resolve. Every inch of antler is hard earned but hard work can be rewarded. Your milage may vary but my tips are 1. Don't scout for elk. Learn the unit. 7e has a huge elevation range and weather will play a big role where they will be at a given time of year. Elk have gotten smarter from all the peaks LO hunts and head high at the first signs of pressure. Snow will drive them down, so just get out and learn the unit and develop a plan a-z for different elevations. 2. Don't overlook all corners of 7e. A monster was shot by sunset crater last year and another beast pushing 400 was shot the year before in a canyon by twin arrows casino the year before. All of 7e is elk country. The highest density of elk will be around the peaks but elk can be found throughout nearly every inch of the unit. If you want to get away from the rat race think outside the box. 3. Use glass. Two years ago I drew the late archery hunt in 7e. I thought I might get lucky if I saw one elk during the hunt but I actually ended up being on Bulls nearly every day of the hunt. Never tagged out but I would say I was much more successful than I thought I would be on this type of hunt but following tried and true tactics. Get high early and glass south and east facing slopes, and 7e has a lot of opportunity to glass. I have the third peaks bull hunt this year and I would be glad to share any info I learn from my hunt.

I think you are referring to the limited zone. I believe that area has always been huntable to military, retired military and civilians who work at the base with government clearance. No guns allowed in there so archery only but if the OP is a vet then he could bring a bow and hunt in side the limited zone archery and any method in the buffer zone

Wow. Looks at those rosettes on the sides of that second cat. Would make an awsome full mount. Definitely different cats.

Almost sounds like your in a females range and and had a Tom come through. I have personally noticed from trapping that females make a small circuit( like 3-4 days) and this is the prime time for males to be sniffing out females so I would hammer that area calling. The male will hang around if there is a female there. From personal experience cats can take a long time to come in when called. The last cat I shot came in at almost the 2 hour mark!

Only on the old 3 screw black hawks and single six. Vaqueros never came without a transfer bar saftey.

All rugers have the firing pin in the frame and they never made the vaquero without a transfer bar saftey.

Give it a try, at least once. I had a lot of fun on my 7e late archery hunt I did a couple years ago. It's a pretty cool experience to have a bull tag in your pocket and pretty much have the woods to your self compared to any early archery or rifle hunt. I was very successful at finding Bulls almost every day but I had crunchy snow which made stalking near impossible. One thing to consider is if you have a hunter ed point and a loyalty point, check and see how many points to get in the bonus point pass for the unit you are interested in hunting. Meaning if you put a late archery hunt as a second choice with low points you may draw the tag in the bonus pass and and never have a shot at your first choice in the 1st-2nd choice pass. As these late hunts become more popular this will be less of a problem but I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me when I drew the tag

Whenever there isn't snow on the ground. Just picked an old chalker this morning. Probably April till June. Lots of browns and no weeds to speak of. Once the vegetation grows from the monsoons they can be a lot harder to find.
