AZ Ground Pounders Coues Deer Management
pwrguy replied to AZ Ground Pounders's topic in AZ Ground Pounders Outfitters Blog
Well put and 100 percent correct. You can't alway's rely on others to assist in your plan, but you can manage predators and win half the battle. Keep up the good work!!! -
October Coues Hunt vs December Rut Hunt
pwrguy replied to AZ Ground Pounders's topic in AZ Ground Pounders Outfitters Blog
You guy's are killing some great bucks. I have come to the same conclusion, I had a great October last year although I didn't harvest anything as nice as those. -
I plan on shooting 200 to 210 grain bullets. I'm interested in the new long range bullets from Nosler, but ultimately, I will end up with one bullet for this gun and it will be the one that gives the best results downrange, doesn't matter if it's Berger, Hornady, Sierra or whatever?

That's easy...the first one that came into range

Wow it looks like it's quartering through the lung into the far shoulder. I would like to know what that arrow was tipped with?

That's what I was thinking. He's going to be huge.

The work was done by Aztek Arms in Utah. It is a Sendero contour..whatever taper that is, I think around 7 or 8? I have not decided on a scope. I have a 6.5 -20 Leopold target scope that I will start with until I decide what I want to put on it. And no....the bolt is on the correct side

I like the bonus points. It should be weighted heavily in favor of those who have gone the most years without a tag. There should still be a luck factor but those folks should be competing for 10 to 20% of the tags, not 80%.

I know it's rare to have encounters, but there is alway's a chance. I feel neked without at least a sidearm. -
I have been thinking about the desert boots. I have a pair of Danners that suit me fine for Alaska and late hunts here, but it seems like my biggest problem is my feet getting too hot on about 3/4 of the hunts I go on. Anyone try these?

That is too bad, I didn't realize it was down like that again, I thought it had re-opened.

Wow, thats all I can say!!! I hunted 6 day's in a row, I finally took one this morning. The last 4 day's have been pretty tough, I only heard this bird gobble 2 times. He gobbled once about 5:30 so I made my way to where I thought he might be about 600 yards away across a canyon and waited. At about 6:30 I heard one gobble way back by where my quad was parked and then about 5 seconds later this sucker gobbled about 100 yards away from me. I gave him about 5 minutes and then did some soft cuts and purrs. To make a long story short about 30 minutes later the whole flock shows up about 75 yards away just kinda milling around looking for me. I got caught facing the wrong way as the showed up about 120 degrees from where I thought they would. Finally this guy decides to come have a look and when I thought he was 30 to 40 yards I rolled over with my gun and had to pick him out amoungst several hens. Sunday and Monday mornings were the slowest day's for me, I only heard about 3 gobbles each day.

Yep, ole Adam lived up to his handle, that was one big old brown trout. I had a great time even though Adam caught all the fish

Powder is next??
pwrguy replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
No doubt they are going to pass a bunch of laws that at the very least are going to make things like powder and primers a lot more money. Eventually you will have to get some kind of permit to possess it and further down the road you won't even be able to do that. Buy what you can afford now. -
I have dealt with both of these businesses. Top notch, like you said it's nice to deal with a small business that actually wants to get you what you are looking for.

Custom build. What caliber would you go with?
pwrguy replied to briant_az's topic in Long Range Shooting
Have you considered leaving it a 30-06? I guess my answer to your question would be what do you consider long range and what critter would the rifle be for? Yes the 6.5 is rapidly becoming the bullet of choice for lots of coues hunters. There are equally awesome 7mm bullets in that size range as well. Caliber choice is not nearly as important as the size of the groups the rifle will print when it's done. Personally if I was going to have one rifle for everything i would stick to a larger 30 Cal, I have never subscribed to the theory that you can have too much bullet, and there are some fantastic high bc bullets coming out. -
My Strategy for my Nevada Applications. Deadline is TODAY!
pwrguy replied to CEI's topic in CEI Outdoors Blog
Adam, yes you have to buy a NR Nevada license, I think it is around $140.00 per year. I have 5 BP for the 2 sheep species, and 5 each for Antelope, Mule deer and Elk. Hopefully I get to cash in one of these years, but I just did bonus points this year. -

San Carlos success! Updated with full mount pictures.
pwrguy replied to Couestracker's topic in Turkeys!
Good job, some times you just got to make it happen if they don't want to come your way. -
Sweet. What a nice unbroken find.

Looks good to the gobbler as well
