Was wondering if anyone has fished Big Lake, Hawley Lake, or Reservation Lake yet? In years past I've fished these lakes in late March, and the trout always seemed to be pretty hungry after the ice melt. I'm thinking about loading up the Jeep and heading that way in a few weeks, so just wanted to see if anyone has something to report. Even if it's not great fishing, ya can't beat the scenery!

Clearly one of the best write-ups I've read in a long time, not to mention a memorable hunt. Congrats!!!!

Nice find....congrats๐ No doubt you put in the work, and it paid off big time!!!

There's an incredible website caltopo.com that has many layers of hunting information. Everything from deer density to vegetation. I'm typing from my phone, but if my 58 year old brain doesn't fail me, I seem to recall it has info on burn areas as well. No promises, but worth looking into. Good luck to all this year๐

Just a thought. You may want to post this in the "Predator Hunting and Trapping" part of the Forum. Could be a great way of getting plenty of coyote skulls for practice. -

Wow...this is a great thing you're doing by helping a young entrepreneur pursue his passion of hunting and everything that goes along with it! I'm sure you'll get plenty of folks to volunteer their trophys, so please be sure to post pictures of the results! -
Dang, that's an incredible buck! I love that your son had a plan and stuck to it. This is what campfire memories are made of!!!!๐๐๐

Nothing is better than spending time in the hills with your kids! Coming home with filled tags is secondary to the memories that will last a lifetime!!! Great job dad on focusing on what's important in life๐

Once in a lifetime last day buck

Incredible buck! We're all anxious to hear the results at day 61....so good luck with that! If it were me, I think I wouldn't get any sleep for the next two months....lol -
I've got nothing to offer by way of advise, but just keep in mind that the lasting memory of chasing the same buck three years running will stay with you forever. Tag it or not...great "continuing" story! Can't wait to see how this plays out in year four...lol. Good luck.

Watch the original Christmas Vacation. There's a scene where Sparky goes up into the attic and blows the dust off a present that was "hidden" for years. Kinda reminds me of your post....lol

Dang! That is one of the coolest bucks I've seen! I assume a shoulder mount for that bad boy?

I ain't laughing. I spent the entire October hunt in 36B, and came home with tag soup! Congrats!!!!

Quail Near Roosevelt Lake??
Silver Bullet posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Plan on taking my son quail hunting on Sunday around the Tonto Basin area just north of Roosevelt Lake. We've hunted there in the past, with some years being ok, and other years not so much. Does anyone know what the hatches have been like for 2016 in this area? This will be our first time out this season, so trying to get an idea of what we can expect in finding these little buggers. Even if I know it to be a not-so-good year...still heading out. Nothing better than hunting with my best friend! Thanks! -
I normally don't read posts that are this long, but I have to admit, yours kept me reading for many reasons. Hunting with family. Memories of hunting with your dad. Soon to be grandpa! And the number of elk you saw, not to mention the opportunities! I'm sure this hunt will be a campfire story for years to come! And congrats on a nice bull.
