Different brass question
CouesPursuit replied to HuntHarder's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I sorted out the first 25 pieces from a box of new Lapua brass that had the roundest, most uniform necks and loaded them after an established load was made with FL size prep, no chamfer/debur. They shot identical. I did the same with Norma brass in a different gun and had great results also. -

Not sure how old is "older" but those recharge cans at your local auto parts store are cheap to try if compatible. -
Mostly rifle/pistol parts or bulk powder. I do not need projectiles, brass or primers.

My 3 year-old and I had a great day at Roosevelt. I'm thankful the fishing has picked up the last few years.

Calibers for next years youth gun giveaway?
CouesPursuit replied to Crazymonkey's topic in The Campfire
Just some thoughts from someone is NOT a resident ballistic expert - Re: 308 Win. Energy isn't a problem until past 500 yards and it is my opinion kids shouldn't be shotting that far anyway. The extra velocity in the 7mm-08 could assist with a single 250 yard zero, less drop between ballistic dots, or less turret movement overall. Even if only slightly, 7mm-08 has less recoil and there are lots of reduced recoil load options. I also like the BC of the .284 for the bullets I would use. -

Consider turning this into a poll, OP. It can still be added by editing the original post. -
Calibers for next years youth gun giveaway?
CouesPursuit replied to Crazymonkey's topic in The Campfire
I wouldn't make it as THE but it is a fair recommendation. Lots of factory ammo and reduced recoil options in addition to this. I think a dedicated youth gun gets the 7mm-08 nod from me. Hands down 243 Win if it was deer only. -

We can't let this thread get to a second page without a 6.5 Creedmoor recommendation can we? -
Females still had eggs and sacks weren't super bloody. Males were blackened at the boat but didn't turn fully until they sat in the livewell a while. It is almost there and the weather this week is going to do it! Sunday could be a tough day on the water with the wind, though.
-
I don't have an open seat but if anyone is headed out Friday-Saturday and wants info, let me know. I think this coming weekend before Sunday will be the best of the year.

Good luck! Great friend.

Long, solid day yesterday. We threw back 50-60 crappie under 12" between Fri-Sat.

It will work out, seats and schedules are unfairly limited.
-
Sorry we can't make a deal but it was very nice talking with you, Randall. Pms cleared out.
-
I didn't see any but I'm on a boat with a 3 year old man, I wasn't paying attention to anything but safety and crappie.

2 snags all day but I was fishing fast and shallow based on your report, thanks dude. I'll fish .8-.9 mph for suspended shad busting fish and 1-1.1 over trees.

Same exact details as our pm last year if you still have it. Tonto.

How many 215m are available and how many pounds are you looking for?

Long line trolling jigs, grubs and bare hooked minnow combinations at 1mph. Ran out of minnows and caught a couple casting.
