rn- I don't have a probelm with the weight of the rifle. 8.5 compared to 7.5 for mag sporter is not much to me for what you get. being careful on the scope and the scope mounts can save some.

all my magnum senderos have a vais brake. one has a jewell trigger. two have shilen. my 7mm mag has a krieger barrel fluted( 318 plus 95 for flutes and 150 to chamber and thread). Is it a lot more acurate than the other one ? Not that much. i have more confidence in it and shoot it more. less finicky to load for. the stainless fluted ones are light enough for me . having shot competition heavier is better. if i want to go light i carry a different rifle.
-
the barrel is too short . so you should sell it to me. pics please, preferably with a deer or elk too. remington can tell you all about just e-mail them.

good luck . -
The L579 is the one i have . it was made in the late 60"s (67). the L57 was before that. mine are awesome.
-
the distance you can be successful is more determined by the size of groups you can shoot. i would the think the rifle is as capable as the scope. if the rifle is capable get a 4.5-14 or a 6.5-20 and put on it.

Berger bullets for hunting
roninflag replied to hunter1026's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
MK- the partitions generally do not shoot small groups as other bullets. for me they have been awesome game bullets. i would use a light bullet . you are at the heavy end. my buddy has a sendero 7stw killed over 40 with the 120 sierra. the ones i would try - first 140 berger , second 140 berger, then in no particular order 140 balistic tip , 140 partiton, 139 hornady btsp -

Hunter- what rifle and cartridge? my experience is they do just great, and are the most accurate bullet also. -
real nice bucks. what rifle/loads did you use?
-
it is the barrel/gun not the twist. i used a 1-12 twist 243 to win my first 1000 yard match. i have several 1-10 twist .243 they do great with 100 grain horn and sierras.

sinclair? midway? graf?? hornady? -
i don't shoot a bow any more . not sure how 600 yards with a 30-06 compares to a certain distance with a bow (90yards??). it takes a good everything ( trigger ammo rifle scope ect) for 600 yards. i have shot against guys shooting a factory 30-06 in competion at 600 yards. their success depended on all of those things. in no particular order.

caliber is 30-06 . what rifle??

COUES MAGNET- the partition is a great hunting bullet. my wife shot an elk with a 95 grain partition in .243. i have several rifle that shoot real good, none shoot the parttion into little groups at 100 or further. since i shoot in competition i shoot both match bullets and hunting bullets. the 167 scenar is a good one. many use for hunting. also the berger 168 would be the first one i would try. the others metioned some good ones too. the higher bc will give you less drop and wind drift. as much as i like the partition . in my guns it won;t shoot a good enough groups at long ranges that i can rely on it for that. my last bull elk was killed with a 180 partition. 26 yards.

camera ,knife , water, boolit , headlamp, matches/lighter , light latex gloves ; a little food if there are no pears.
-
i have a remington 700 vssf. i would not use either of those. either the ones first coues mentioned or additionally the 60 balisitic tip or the 63 grain sierra semiptd. the 60 grain partition would be my first choice.

Awesome!! what rifle/caliber?
-
First- Yes. i have a 10mm i have fired a little. i am older now and can't see factory sights so until i put a red dot or holo i would not be able to be accurate very far with the 10mm. my 357 6" 586 has worked for me for years. i have confidence in it . flatter and more accurate than a .40 ( unless you some 4k$ unlimited comp ). .357 not as many shots. will a 40 do it ? . i am sure many on here have used them successfully. i would use the one that shot the best groups at either 25 or 50 yd.

First- in the 80's the federal 125 was THE round for law enforcement. lot of data showed it worked real good. i just loaded to equal it. also energy = mass X veloctiy squared or something like that. up the velocity the energy goes up a lot. also, the 158 good on penetration, little or no expansion. 140's were not common then. also while i shot a buddies gold cup and it was pretty accurate; i think it is hard to get an auto to shoot 1-1.5" at 50 yd. just my opinion and experience.
