for mule deer -in one year in kaibab : yearling bucks (1.5 yr) weight ran from 89 to 145 ; their antlers were from 1 point to a 4X5 21" . my 3.5 year old : 7X5 28.5 " wide dressed 178 . a mule deer i shot in another state 6.5 years old 2x3 22" wide 208 pounds. i thought i was shooting a young deer . no the body was large. it was an old deer. mule deer that grow spike the first year will never match a buck that is a 4x5 21" wide . never. as far as i know no stats exist for coues.

i have a couple rem mtn rifles. 30-06. one of the biggest typicals ever taken was by a hunter using a 25-06 mtn rilfe.

That is an average. rifle practice is good . besides Optics ; the, Rifle must be able to shoot a really good group at 500 yards. 5" - 5 shots. my buddy has a rifle with 40 notches. sendero 7stw and 6.5-20. 120 sierra fb. wind is no problem, weather is usually dry and warm. have a big ice chest with ice for the quarters. steve hoperfullyu aqrch is also passing on what i pm'd him. i will be down there hopefully , if my grandson or i get tags.

Arch- it is very dry right now . if they do allow fires bring some ribeyes and hamburgers; there is a lot of mesquite wood. (oak and juniper too)

Arch- the only quail i have seen there are mearns . the do not open until dec. there are a lot of rabbits ( whitetail about 10 pounds, blacktail about 6 pound and cottontial about 1-2 pounds) . coyotes, fox , bobcat and coatimundi. while many hunters report glassing up mt lions ; i spend a lot of time and money hunting them and i have not seen one. you may see some javelina while glassing.

i guess everyone's perspective is different. for ME; ........the rifle is more important than the cartridge . the "270, 280, 30-06" thing , is a waste of time and breath . show me the 100 and 500 yard group size. or what ever your max distance is. roninflag

I would pick a hunt with 29% or More hunt success and one with 96% or More draw rate. spending time camping out in prime az coues country is hard to beat. if you click on " hunt az " on the azgfd wb site it has last five years of stats. also in the regs they have the previous years stats. ron

have not heard of any record book bucks. but i am sure it is great. it is not where i hunt though.

MULE- saddle mtn wilderness is in 12e. this is a great hunt for youth. you should not need horses . 23 per cent chance; if you get drawn you will see plenty of deer. ron
