Blued stainless barrel?
roninflag replied to 2 Full Curls's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
i have seen both 7mm mag and 264mag like that . very early model 700's. i would contact remington for the what and why. -
the senderos in all calibers are great. my nephew shot a nice coues last yeat with my brothers .264 . awesome. it is a stock sendero, shilen trigger, leup 6.5-20 w/turret, vais brake. ron in flag

this is harder than I thought it'd be
roninflag replied to apache12's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
APache12- my dad was one of the first in az to call coyotes; 1952. i called my first one in when i was eleven. you can call them close to town . i wish i could get my son inlaws vid clip on youtube. called in 5. cars honking and roosters crowing in east mesa. i like to call where no one else has. it is easier. the educated ones are hard. also coyotes are a small challenging target. watch a few calling videos. make sure your rifle is sighted in and accurate. if you can go out with someone you has called some in. i do not use a shotgun. some areas that hold coyotes are so brushy a good shotgunner with 4 buck can be very productive. -
It is official. I have joined the dark side.

nice! i shoot a lot of 123 scenars in mine. in fact the only time i shoot 139's is for 1000 yard matches. for hunting i use a 120 balistic. enjoy. -
i would use H-4350 in the 300 and 270. and varget or I4064 in the .243
-
WLRM for the 300. 210m for the other two.
-
i shoot in competition and hunting. i have vais breaks on my magnums and wish i had had one put on my 6.5-284. i can were muffs and puffs at the range and pufss when i am hunting.
-
i would get her a remington 700 hvy barrel in either 243 or 22-250. or maybe a 25-06.

what rifle? what binos?
-
there is an article in precision shooting a month back about the 7mm mag . it mentions the use of a 120 bullet . on paper not as good as some others with a higher bc. my buddy has killed 30 coues with it. 7 stw sendero. most important is a rifle capable of the accuracy needed at distance . most factory rifles are unable to do it. next comes the bullet selection. shooting some bullets over time will prove .

.30-06 vs .270 vs .308: What do you like and why
roninflag replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
the rifle and scope are more important/"bigger decision " than caliber. also it depends on what deer and what unit you are going to hunt. -
my adl ( 1969) and my two senderos shoot great and have great triggers. i sho0t 140 accubond and 168 bergers . i have also shot 139 hornady. usually H4831 powder.
-
do you like the rifle. the rifle is more important than the caliber. a 300 weatherby has a lot of power . it is a proven long range target round in an accurate rifle. ALL my mags have breaks.

new barrel for ruger m77
roninflag replied to arizonaelitefreak's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
my gunsmith will only rebarrel remington 700 or custom actions -
apache- i bet they have never shot a rifle with a krieger barrel. factory barrels or custom barrels each react differently. the factory barrels are tougher to get to shoot good clean of dirty.
-
nice . much bigger than my 6"X6".

if predators were not a problem the difference in fawn survival inside and out side the fence at three bar would be the same.instead the fawn survival inside is 100% outside 17. besides deer , lions do kill badger fox and elk. mostly deer. i know a lion hunter collared a lion and followed it and the kills for two years. it killed and ate a lot of deer. and becuase coyotes and other animals eat the lion kill; the areas with higher coyote numbers it killed more often. 40 a year i believe. the coues seem to be holding their own but mule deer south of the colorado river are really at a low.
-
i hunted 36b early. saw deer. no lions. it would be worth the price of a 5-r to me; to just glass up a lion. that is a Huge loss. ron in flag

Good practice round for .243 for kids?
roninflag replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
AIRBUS- the .243 is an accurate and deadly round. if you are not going to hunt deer right away( this year) you could shoot lighter 60-85 grain bullets on coyotes and targets ect then sight in with the heavier ones when drawn. i killed most of my deer with an 85 sierra bthp handload. they are offered by federal in a factory load. -
DESERTHNTR- plenty of hunters shoot sheep that are less than 160 . check the game and fish stats on their web sight. that is a nice ram. he may be in a unit that has 180's i guess. roninflag

mikes has the right idea. my super grade and my sendero have kept all the loads i have tried under an inch usuall a lot less. 71.0 4350 and a 165 or 168.

How many rounds of ammo do you carry?
roninflag replied to SunDevil's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
it was an unusual year. my son and i shot 16 shots by 9 am counting the ones at coyotes and coues. i carry enough so that i don't need to worry about being short . varies. -
Prowler- i have loaded for my two 300 wm, and several other buddies' sendero 300wm. i have it to be a very forgiving round to load for. only the 222 and 308 are EASIER to find a good load for.

i tried to repond in the positive. . as bad at computers as bear hunting.

better yet get a remington with a krieger barrel.
