Hunting Southern Units Safe?
roninflag replied to azffhunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
you are going to carry a rifle? what make ? good enough to shoot a coues at some distance? i have been down there hunting in october only. i saw a lot of border patrol, lots of deer. lots of hunters carrying rifles. -
EL FIRE- IT IS ESY TO ADJUST your remington trigger your self. google remington crisp. once you shoot a remington with a krieger barrel you will have a very hard time to go back to shooting ANY factory barrel. you will have to decide what weight gun you want to end up with and what caliber. that will determine barrel contour and any future stock replacement.

i have vais on several of mine. they are awesome.

javelina- similar country. easier to get a close shot, handgun and rifle have the same hunt success.
-
JR- i have hunted in az for quite a while. in my opinion wt are a much harder big game to start hunting on than mule deer. it takes GOOD optics and a good rifle.wt are a small target and most are shot at 250 yards or more. sell the 30-30. get a .243 or 25-06. tactics- it would help to go out with someone experienced. generally you hike to the top of a mountain with some good optics; in the dark. then you glass until you find one then you shoot.

MR JON- German expects 1/2 min( 1/4 is more like it) maximum vertical dispersion out to 1000 yards with iron sights. i/we should listen very carefully to what he does and doesn't say. cleaning: get a tipton ot dewey rod and the appropriate jag/patches. get SC mc-7 and SC copper remover . follow directions on the bottle. clean every 15-30 rounds or when you change powders. break-in : follow German's procedure.

Mr. Jon- there is a great article on barrel break in on riflemansjournal. i have three rem 700 7mm mags. most important is to adjust the trigger, and mount a leup scope ; next is good ammo. DESERT - if you ever shot against German Salazar; you would have to believe He knows rifle barrels. ron

Bill - the gun i shot my coues with last octber works fine. a rem 700 sendero. if you have a light weight rifle i guess you could cut back on the number of rounds you shoot.

MY new rem 7mm mag is NOW a shooter
roninflag replied to mason a's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
MASON- I SHOOT THE 168 AND 139 out of my 7mms too. i found also the 140 berger and 140 accubond and 140 balistic tip very very accurate. i also found the 215gm gave higher pressure , higher velocity and higher es; and the rem9.5m , cci 250 and WLRM; i could virtually inter change as though they were the same primer only different colors. -
Do you have a "Tack Driver"?
roninflag replied to azhuntnut's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
the sako .243 i bought in 1969. i call it my "sako .243 " . also my sako .222. my remington 700 7mm mag. and of course my rem 700 6.5-284 . my model 70 "super grade" 300 win mag. if they don't shoot they go. ron
