    Who taught you to hunt?

A good friend of mine taught (used very loosely) how to hunt big game after I got out of the service and moved to Gunnison. He convinced me that I should elk hunt, and on the third day of my first hunt, he had to leave camp and head back to work for a few days. I asked what exactly I was supposed to do once I shot an elk. He asked in reply if I had ever cleaned a fish before. I nodded in affirmation, to which he said "gutting an elk is just like gutting a fish, only bigger." I am sure he was laughing the whole way back to town.

    Anyone do blueing in Phoenix?

Get in touch with the gunsmithing course up at Yavapai CC. I know blueing is part of their course and I'm sure you could find a student willing to learn on your new find for a minimal fee.

Question about flying with a rifle

Gun cases cannot, and should not, have a TSA lock on them. Doing so is a direct violation of federal law, and is plain stupid. You are required by law to be the only person able to access the contents of said case. Should it fail the wipe test(clean your case) you will be required to open it once a TSA supervisor shows up. If you hand them the key or tell them the code, you have just violated federal law. If the case you have, while locked, can be unlatched and opened far enough to remove the firearm, then it is insufficient. The ability to withstand prying is a personal preference and has no such mandate from federal regulations. I've flown with a firearm on SWA 50-100 times. Less on other carriers. I fly with a pelican. And yes, they are worth it. As for shipping, you are legally allowed to ship yourself a firearm, as indicated earlier. The only possible issues would be on the state/local side. You would need to be able to legally possess said firearm(s) in both places. This also applies to flying(don't take possession of an AR or hi-cap glock if your plane gets diverted to somewhere like JFK or La Guardia). If your not comfortable flying, ship it to yourself. I'd fly with it though, but then again, anywhere I fly, I fly with firearms(always put my valuables in the pelican and then toss in a pot metal pistol just so I can keep TSA hands out of my goods).

    Sold

Love my 30s. It's my every day carry.
  7. Headed to Yuma in two hours. Hoping my wife can take her first animal ever. Also hope to do some scouting for my pheasant hunt as I'll only have one day for that hunt.

    STRARBUCKS

Nothing new with Starbucks. They've been this way since their beginning(worse than just what's mentioned here). Which is why I've not wanted anything to do with them in over 15 years. And why my wife hates that look I give her every time I catch her with one, 'cause she knows the lecture that is soon to follow once again.

    Chair for blind

Sat in the Blackout a few weeks ago at the store in Mesa and noticed the noise as well. Seemed quite comfortable otherwise, with ample room for me to draw my bow back. I'll have to head back there and try again. Will bring a rag to wipe it down beforehand and see how it quiets down. Currently have the Primos DB tripod one Bigorange mentions and it is okay. It can squeak a bit, but the fabric is really loud(when in a blind and a deer at water) if you are not wearing the right clothing. The tripod chairs also tend to restrict circulation to my legs when I'm sitting on decline, which I typically am when near a waterhole. I can get about 4 hours out of one before a leg starts to fall asleep.

    Chair for blind

My biggest issue has been finding one that is quiet when shifting weight and has the room to draw the bow back when shooting at various angles through the windows, while not hurting my arse by the end of the day. Have not found one yet.

    Where is this?..... (fishing)

Can't remember how long it's been since I bait fished. Was planning on bringing a pair of fly rods and maybe a float tube.

It's on my short to do list for spring fishing next year. Never been but have always wanted to catch a Gila.

Anytime I'm out and about with any type of hunting weapon, I'm coyote hunting, should a warden ask.

    Is this legal? Hypothetical Situation

But does the animal have to be in the same unit as you as well? What if your first shot you and the animal were in the same unit, but then they went over a ridge/creek into a neighboring unit. Could you shoot a follow up shot? Would you be allowed to track them into the neighboring unit?
  16. Yes. Got mine a few weeks ago.

Elk hunting in Grizzly country, which pistol?

Was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago when we went to Yellowstone. Ended up carrying the bear spray. Had a 12ga with patterned slugs if needed, but the spray was on the hip anytime we got out of the truck. You're more than welcome to borrow them if you'd like.

If you hunted dove south of tucson, read this

You should have called operation game thief and the USFWS. Wanton waste of migratory birds is a federal crime. Pretty sure that as such, any weapons and vehicles used in the process would be forfeited, along with a max of 6 months in jail and $15,000 in fines. Per bird. Not to mention everything the AZGFD would throw at him.

    Hunting License

I print mine to PDF and then digitally sign it through Bluebeam. Then I email it back to myself, save it to my phone, and viola! And should anyone ever ask, a digital signiture done properly on a digital paper is indeed a legally binding document, with a plethora of case studies online you could reference. If a warden ever gives you crap about it, just ask "if a digital copy of my license is not valid, then why was I given the option to print a paper copy from a digital one, instead of being mailed a hard copy? The original document was digital, so therefor, by your logic, any hard copy I printed was done so from an digital license that was not valid to begin with..." Try not to smile too much, wish the warden a nice day and then carry on with your business.

    what might this bull score?

His G1's and G2's are short, barely half way down his face. They turn up too quick and the G1's don't rise much after that. His 3's, 4's and 5's are much longer on the side without the growth off his G2, but still not really long. And his mains look to be shorter, not going out and then up, but more cutting back at an angle, and not extended too far past his G5's. Without velvet and after deductions I'd say your looking at solid 310 class bull. If he grows another inch per point before rubbing his velvet off, you got yourself a 320 class bull. 2 inches and it's a 330-340 class bull. I would have to agree that I like the added character. As he sits in those pics, I would pass on opening morning of an early archery hunt though. 14 days is just too much time to keep hunting and I know there would have to be a bigger bull around.

As others have said, let us know which dates you got. If it doesn't conflict with one of the other hunts I am doing with first time hunters this fall, I'll add you to the mix.
