If you need waders I have an old pair you can use. Traded my boots though. You could use cheap hiking shoes instead.

Confirm the zero at several magnification levels. I'd shoot a group each at 3, 5, 7 and 9x on a 3-9 scope, and assuming you do your part, if there is a noticeable issue with tracking then I would send a pic of the target along with your email to customer service showing them that there is indeed an issue and requesting your scope to be replaced.

Not all are calibrated for use at max power, though most are. When the OP mentions sighting in a rifle, I assume he means establishing/confirming zero. Verifying BDC substentions is a vastly different exercise altogether. If you are experiencing a POI shift throughout the magnification range of the scope, then I would demand a replacement.

Call the main number and choose option 7(portal tech support). Just did the same thing for a junior hunter and the department had given them a different dept ID than his social. She was able to update his profile and he was then able to log in and his results were there. Took all of 2 minutes.

For establishing a zero I use max power, but it does not matter what power it is on. It only makes it easier to see the target and maintain a higher degree of precision.

Get a lion tag too. Haven't been down that way since I was a kid living in Yuma. But we saw both sheep and lions down there backpacking with our scout troop. Also, the thickest patch of Cholla Cacti I've ever seen was down there, on the east side of the mountains. Congrats on the tag, and if you need an extra set of eyes, let me know.

Try posting in the mule deer section. This help area is more for the technical/interwebs of the site.

Makes at least two of us. Still waiting to find out what hunt my coworkers son drew so I can plan another hunt for another 1st time hunter, and hopefully pick up a tag myself. I keep refreshing the G&F tab about 5 minutes to see if they're posted yet.

Park at 38*58'10.52"N, 105*34'54.33"W. Walk down stream or start at the bridge and fish your way upstream. Cast at 45* angle upstream and vary your reel speed. The bigger browns hold up in the undercuts un the bends next to the bank. Wear some thermals or ski socks under your waders 'cause that water is cold. Get there early so you get first crack at the fish for the day. Expect wind. Lots of wind. Lots and lots of cold, cold wind. And glaring sun. I'd recommend using a fluorocarbon line. Those are dang smart fish and I've never had much luck on mono. You may want a 7' rod to help with the wind, but your casts should not be too far. Here is all you'll need for lures. And yes, bring extras. As you can see, I'm running low.

They do make the 6.5 GAP brass, but getting some is a different story, so I hear. If the OP really wants a hot rod of a round, I would also suggest the 6.5 Allen Mag. I'd completely forgot about Kirby's wildcats until Lance mentioned one in another thread last week. He makes some amazing rifles and takes overbore to another level. Figure 200-300fps over the 26 Nosler.

223 Reloading for Hunting/Accuracy (Updated with success)
metau replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
52 gr Bergers for yotes and 60gr partitions for bigger critters has worked well for me. The partitions where decently accurate, the Bergers, much more so. Can't speak to the bullets you listed. -
Just curious, why 6A?
-
6.5-300wby, since you're not concerned. Of the two you mentioned, 26 Nosler, for the brass.

I'll be joining you guys down there later this year, unless things work out with some leftover tags and getting a few first time hunters tagged out first.

No headstand needed, just spin your monitor.

Look into the Crazy Creek chairs for back support. I have the original, which I referenced in my earlier post. Looks like they have a few other variations out now, including one with a higher back for even more support.

I messed up my wife's application! Need help in 36A
metau replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Just get her some jewelry and you'll be fine. If we don't see a post from you over the next week, we'll know you forgot to get some and need to start combing the desert for ya'. -
I've picked up some of their blem billet lowers. Best price around for a billet lower and I've only found the blemish on one of them. Their normal priced stuff is top notch quality, and a local manufacturing business.

Appreciate your service brother. Never been after deer specifically in 6A, but as a general rule for all units, I'd start with the areas listed on the G&F website for each unit. I've found that the info is fairly accurate, although sometimes can be a few years out of date. As for general advice, get the best binos you can afford and then put them on a steady tripod. You'll see 500% more deer then before, if not more. Even crappy binos on a tripod will increase the number of deer you see. In August, find water and you'll find deer.

Drew a pheasant tag. Better than nothing.

The Dream Stream from Spinney to 11-mile and Cheesman Canyon. 6' UL spinning rig with 1/8oz brown trout Kastmasters and yellow on black panther martins. Bring several of each. And be ready for a 30" fish, cause there are plenty in each of those stretches of the South Platte. When you headed that way? Taking a fly rod?

Get Steve Chappel's CD on elk calling and practice each morning and afternoon during your commute to work. That's what I did when I drew my first bull tag and it took about 2 weeks to get decent. Aldo, don't give up.

Healy Arms in Tempe - Sponsor Quentin Defense in Gilbert - Best price around for blemished billet lower Sun Devil Mfg in Mesa - Toss up with QD for my favorite billet lowers Plenty of other places to pick them up at, but those are the ones I've done business with, if you want to shop local.

Kirby makes some phenomenal rifles.
