    hiking poles or staff

I 2nd the Black Diamond Trekking Poles. The locking mechanism on them is the best on the market, no way it will come loose on you when you use it to brace a large downward step with a heavy load on. No matter which brand you go with, trekking poles make a heck of a difference going downhill on your knees. Also, it increased my speed on more level terrain and I feel like I can go much further now too. Honestly, I do not think that I would want to do any type of backpacking or back country/off-trail hiking without them. My wife also complained about them being in the way when she first started using them, but now she too will not go backpacking without them.

    limited time out

DSI as well, but I work at the shop. Every now and then I get out to the PUB to do a walk around, so I am sure I've walked by you at least once.

    limited time out

60-60-50... Gotta be Intel. I know just how you feel. Been on 6-12's+ since last year doing CAD for F42. Finally managed to check water and set up a cam this last weekend. I should be off the weekend you have your 50. Shoot me a PM with which direction were you thinking of heading? I've got a few spots in just about each direction.

    Auction tag winners

I managed to find a list of the people who had won the raffle tickets in the past, but so far have not been able to locate a list of the winning bidders for the auctioned tags. Can anyone here point me in the right direction? Thanks.

    Fab 32 anyone?

Been a while since I've been on site but been working on F42 since Nov., 22 and 32 for a few years prior to that. Use to see daryl_s a few times a week when I was in 32.

    new zealand elk

If memory serves me right they were a gift from President Theodore Roosevelt, but I'm not sure if it was to the country of New Zealand or to certain citizens/ranches.
  11. My mind has a tendency to wander, and somehow this thought got in my head, and it scares the dung out of me. If memory serves me right, with the wording that was used in the original HB2072, any 'conservation group' with a certain amount of member 'chapters' that are not part of a national org, who have been in existance for X amount of years, would qualify for being able to secure 350+ tags for raffle and auction for that particular group. Does that mean that if enough local anti-hunting groups formed multiple 'conservation groups', waited the X amount of years, paid the deposit up front, that each of the overhead 'conservation groups' would be able to take an additional 350+ tags from the pool? Also, what would stop them from limiting raffle/auction tags to only thier members, a member only expo, and no one paying more then $1.00 for a tag, just to throw it in the trash to keep hunters from hunting. The $350 they raise would not be enough to cover administrative costs, so they would not have to worry about paying for hunter retention or conservation. I saw nothing in the wording that I could tell would prevent this from happening. Just think, if there were 10 of these groups, that would be over 3500 of the premium tags out of the draw with none of them being used. Which would leave how many for us to draw? Any? I've always been told that I tend to read into things a little too far, but this has me very worried.

    ADA statement

I have been watching these topics closely and am deeply concerned with what has transpired. I'll match your $10 for both Kent and Amanda. I was planning on getting there early, so I might have to join ya. Maybe make it a meeting before the meeting. Jerry

    Flying The Crack

He broke both ankles and has a bruised knee, but is otherwise fine, not to mention lucky as heck. This was his 2nd attempt to jump off Table Mountain that week. He did not, however, have a permit to jump off the mountain and is now facing a $190 fine, but no jail time. The company that was filming him for HBO is also facing fines, and a possible expulsion from all national parks in South Africa.
  14. If it is still available, consider it sold. PM and e-mail sent.

    Two last week

Saw one on the back of a white pickup with a camper shell and a coues license plate headed north on I-17 wednesday night about 830. Saw another one twice last week during the day on the back of a ford super duty parked in front of the Goodrich building off price and frye down in chandler.
  16. Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't 15k for 6 people only $2500 per hunter? And at 12k only $2000 per hunter? I have a coworker who does this every year with some long time friends of his for about the same. I think it actually sounds like a chance for a great time with some good friends if you got 5 buddies who can afford it too. Just sayin'......

    Scope Choice

If you can stretch 'around 1500' just a bit more, I would suggest this scope. I notice you keep commenting on the clarity of the Zeiss. I've only looked through 2 S&B's, and I consider them at the top of all others(except possibly us optics, but have yet to look through) in terms of clarity and craftmanship. If you go that route, you will never doubt if you got a scope that was 'good enough'.

1987 GMC Jimmy 4x4 For Sale!!!

If this is anything like my '85 that I had when I was younger than this is steal. That truck would out-climb, out-pull and out-go dang near everything it came accross, even if it was 10x more expensive. I only wish I had the change to spare on this right now. Jerry

    outdoorsmans packs

I also have their pack and love it. The frame is very similar to the MOLLE pack I had in Iraq, but stronger. I put my tripod in one side pocket and keep my trekking poles in the other. It's very nice to be able to keep them on a trip where they are out of the way, and then have somewhere to put the bow and break out the poles to make it up and out with a load. Only been able to pack out a Javalina in it so far, but I have loaded it with 80+ lbs and gone hiking to help get in shape for philmont & elk season last year. I've yet to do anything more than an overnight out of it, but I have no doubt that it could handle a week or two in the high country of CO or the likes, especially with compact backpacking gear. You will not regret buying it. Jerry

    Camoflaging a blind

This was my blind during elk season last year. Not the best pic, but hope this gives you an idea. Ended up doing a little more on the left side to clean up the stright line made by the edge of the blind there. Once I had it brushed in, not a single animal ever looked at it. Even had a bear walk less then 10 feet from it without pause, on two seperate days. Make sure to not have any light sources coming from behind you. You may also want to wear black for your upper body, but also have your camo with you in case you need to get out of the blind for any reason. As a side note, I ended up taking my bull out of a ground blind, made from stuff I found in the vicinity laying on the ground and clearing a nice shooting lane. Cannot forget the shears/saw. Also make sure you practice shooting out of your blind in the same manner you would once the season comes around. The last thing you want is to miss the animal of a lifetime because you are not used to shooting out of a blind, or a certain position, or a certain type of chair: trust me. Best of luck in your upcoming hunts, enjoy the addiction known as bowhunting, and welcome to CWT.com. Jerry
