  1. +1 on lrh's website. There is enough material there to keep you reading for a week straight yet have more questions then when you started. There are a few members on there who help train professionals and enthusists alike, and have answered questions for me in the past. I hope you enjoy your reading.

    Unit 9 cow hunt

Between FR 302, 320, and the Grandview road there are over a dozen tanks that I located back in August while I had a deer tag in my pocket. Every single one had elk sign at them, and at three of the tanks we actually saw elk, mostly cows. Feel free to pm me and I'll try to point you to a little more specific area once I get home and can look back at my maps. -Jerry
  3. I know I'm a newbie here, but I like hunting with others and have not met many since moving here to AZ, save for the web. I was planning on heading out on Sunday for either quail or waterfowl, though I am up for anything. Don't really care for what or where(within reason), I'd just like to get out and hunt. Let me know if you'd like to head out and we can throw something together. -Jerry

    New Rifle!!!

CouesArcher Neither of those guns is too much for mulies. I have taken a mule deer doe with my 300 win mag, never even thought twice about it. Something to keep in mind about the one you found though is that while having a muzzle brake will reduce felt recoil, the first time you fire it without earplugs will likely be the last. However, you can learn how to switch out barrels on the savages, set the headspacing, and presto, you have a new gun. Downside is having to rezero your scope after every change. At about $200 a barrel though, it's much easier to persuade your other half then buying a whole new rifle. No experience with the Howa so I won't comment either way. As for the chamberings, everyone else said it true. Apples and Oranges. Chevy or Ford. Dem or Rep. With the same weight bullet, a 7mm will have a higher bc and therefore be flatter shooting. But with the 300 you have a higher end weight range of bullets to choose from. Do you want a little a round that shoots a hair flatter or a hits a smidge harder? Another question to consider, is weather this will be a dedicated mulie gun, or will you use it for elk, bear antelope, coues, coyotes, etc.... That brings alot more into consideration.

Did as much as I could when I lived in CO, which wasn't much at all. Have yet to go since moving down here.

    2009 Colorado Bull

Grats on drawing that tag. Lived in CO for several years and I know how hard that is to draw for a Res, let alone a non-res. A wonderful bull, and ditto on the sign.
