    Sea of Cortez 8/18

Would love to do some fly fishing for sailfish, and marlin has been on my bucket list since before I was about 4 years old. Maybe need to do a bit more research into the summer fishing down there.

    Sea of Cortez 8/18

Nice catch bud. What's the best time of year to be down there? I have a friend with a place down in San Carlos Nuevo Guaymas and he is always trying to get me to drive down that way to go drinking and fishing with him.

    Chuckar

Would love to hunt Chukar and Duskies here in AZ, but not sure where to start.

    Podcasts are ruining hunting areas

Found many vehicles off road back when I first started hunting in CO, including in wilderness areas. I've always written down the license plate or vin number, and taken a picture of the vehicle/ATV, with my current gps coords to send to the local game warden, along with confirmation that I am willing and able to testify should it be needed, which it was once (vehicle in a wilderness area).

I also use the InReach, and would never go back to the Spot.

    Colorado Leftover tags

I have bought leftover tags there when I lived there. Got to the office a few hours early and there was already a line. Never tried on line or over the phone. Was curious to see a bunch of 4th season buck tags left over that were not PLO, and some really good archery/muzzy buck tags available in units with great genetics.

    still have hope

Got a response this morning. "The private charter price is $2000 for 4 people on the 23 Parker. Price includes bait, fuel, tackle, rods and reels, ice and fish cleaning. Trip departs from Fisherman's Landing in San Diego at 6:30am and returns around 9pm. The following days are available for charter in August: 11-15,19-23,26,28-31 What are your thoughts? We only do single day trips, no overnights." I am out of town until the 13th, but am ok with a Sunday or Monday trip after that. Who is in?

    WTB Upright Freezer

Looking to buy a used upright freezer. Nothing special, and not looking to spend a ton, but would prefer to deal with folks from here rather than CL or FB. Thanks.

    still have hope

just a note fellas.......there are lots of 6 packs.....would you rather pull on 100 yft and 100 fork.....or 2 or 3 cows? lee ps methinks these big bft will head out past the cortez to the san juan and davidson seamounts shortly as warmer water progresses along the beach. Honestly Lee, I'd love to see a boat full of YT and Dorado, and all 6 guys on a boat coming home with limit of tuna too. Would prefer they all be cows, but nothing wrong with a pair of 100lb BFT. If that could all be had in a single day, with gear included, I would gladly pay top dollar for that every single time.

    Jimmy tarps granite mountain

Trenching was what I had been thinking. Will take a look at Rokslide and see what they have written up over there. Glad it sold, and thanks for the info.

Sent him an email requesting some more info, and available dates.

    still have hope

His website shows 1600 for a full day and 2200 for an overnight. If it is all their gear, then that is an even better deal. Could book a day trip for two off of what it would cost for quality new big tuna rigs.

    Jimmy tarps granite mountain

I've always been curious how you would keep dry during a rainstorm from water running underneath?

An overnight on his boat, split six ways, is the same cost as a 1.5 day on the party boats, but with 30 less people and a much quieter approach. If someone wants to put a trip together, I'm in.

    Kowa or BTX

I wanted to get my hands on the Zeiss Harpia, but was never able to do so. That would be the only other scope I would consider in that top-tier for 85-95mm scopes.

    Kowa or BTX

The Kowa TSN-880 series with Prominar Fluorite lens.
  21. If buyer backs out I will take them all.
  22. I have quite a few "cheap" factory guns that shoot .5moa or less. My Rem 700 ADL Varmint in 22-250 is the best shooting gun I own, and will consistently shoot in the .2's, with better results on my good days. Groups do open up at distance, especially if there is any wind, as the bullets it likes have a low BC. While I have had a few groups that stayed in the .2moa range or better out past 400 yards, it usually will open up, but still within a very respectable .5moa. I do have to admit that I have replaced the trigger in each of these rifles and did not go cheap on the glass.

    Kowa or BTX

For me, it came down to cost vs performance. I could see no advantage in the 85mm swaro over the Kowa, but did in the 95mm, due to a 16% larger objective lens, at the very end of usable light. During better lighting, I saw no difference. Thought very hard about going the route of the 95 and 65, for truck and backpacking hunts, but the weight of the 88 Kowa is only 8.9oz heavier than than the 65mm swaro, once eyepieces are accounted for, with the Kowa being noticeably better in my eyes, even before getting dark. As such, I am going a different route for my smaller spotter. If the 65mm swaro, w/eyepiece, had been in the mid 40oz range, it would have been a different decision for me. I did spend some time contemplating going with the 95mm and something other than the 65mm STX, but in the end, decided the differences were minimal enough to warrant saving over $2000 and decided to put that into a custom ling range rifle. If you ever want to look through the Kowa, I would be more than happy to meet up so you can.

    Introduction Jim Cloninger

Welcome to the site Jim. Sorry to hear that most of your hunting days are behind you. I know you mentioned you'd be selling off some stuff, but I am sure there are plenty of folks on here that would appreciate hearing about some of your hunting stories, so feel free to share those as well.

    Kowa or BTX

Was in the same boat this year and ended up going with the Kowa's, and have zero regrets of not going with the Swaro.
