What arrows and size of broad heads ???
WHT_MTNMAN replied to Flingingarrowsbro's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
If your bow is in tune, shoot what you are using, if not I would lean toward a stiffer spine and heavier BH. -
Well I thought mine was medium I guess the center pole on the medium will only get you 60"...mine is the tall I guess..
-
Jeremy you can get a extended center pole...it will give you another 12-15 inches

mechanical broadheads success and failures

GBA- I've heard from many other forum members on this forum and other forums, (myself included) that have received PM's from you regarding the fixed, mechanical debate. In every PM that I've read or heard about, you definitely come across as trying to "persuade" others to your way of thinking. I just think it is funny that your first sentence states the opposite and then 5 paragraphs trying to persuade others to think the way you do. In all fairness I think that is the great thing about this and other forums, is that any one can see differing view points and make their own decisions. I just find it contradictory and amusing. I and many others shoot what we shoot because we too have spend hours, days, weeks and months trying to make the best informed decision (practical and theoretical) and shooting the BH that absolutely shoots the best for us. You are spot on in what you posted above. I completely agree 100%. The only thing I would add To me: one of the major considerations in a BH is that I don't have to take it off the shaft of the arrow after practicing, to switch blades, screw in the "real" one or re-sharpen. I've seen too many times new blades in BH causing differences in flight. For this reason I stick with COC fixed heads that can be re-sharpend while on the arrow. and mechanicals that can lock in practice mode. AGAIN IMO that is more important that 2 vs 3 blade1 1/4" cutting vs 2 1/2" etc....... I want to shoot the exact same BH from practice to real life. It is that important. -
Supply and demand...one of the only ways everyone will stop hoarding is when the price is so high you say to yourself...I guess I have enough I don't need to mortgage my home to buy .22's....and no I'm not in favor of price gouging but I am in favor of a free market...not one controlled by the government... I saw cheap .22....at $10 a box of 50 up here a few months ago...only time in the last 2 years i walked away from them.

Most hunters will not pick them up with collars etc.....but not every one driving roads are hunters...actually most are not..

Hounds are a different breed for sure. You can not train them (most of them) the same way you can other hunting breeds. They don't listen to basic commands real well without some serious training. Unlike your upland or waterfowl dogs they spend the majority of their time far away from their handlers, they tend to split up regularly looking for older tracks. Even a good pack of hounds will sometimes split and trail two different animals running together. Pretty common to "lose" a few dogs and like has been said before most houndsman will spend nights and days on end gathering dogs. One of biggest problems hounds have are well intentioned passerby's picking up hounds because they think they are "lost". Most hounds will willingly jump into any vehicle that offers them a ride when the owners are driving the road a mile or so a way.

Way cool!!! Great timing...

10-4 I've had same experience. I got one that had rusted up a bit (my fault, got stuck in a bad rainstorm during a hunt. ) I got a new one a few days later. I even attempted to pay since I knew it was my fault.

Good heavy tripod and gun claw works the best IMO... It is heavy but absolutely rock solid....you can't beat it for young hunters or new hunters...

Need 140 Berger!! i know i know so is everyone else
WHT_MTNMAN replied to WHT_MTNMAN's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'm second guessing my twist now, I'll have to go check.... I got the barrel almost 2 1/2 years ago. Got the gun shooting ok to take it on a hunt and it has been sitting ever since. All my custom barrels are Schneider, I've been extremely happy with them. They shoot great, I had a few issues that were not the guns fault, (ie, scope, mounts, torque...etc...) I finally gave up on 168's. Maybe since I've gotten the bugs worked out I shoud try 168s again, but I shot this group the other day with 140's. Top group minimal charge, and bottom group working toward Max. Hard to change much when I got this.... I'm going to get a few 140's and try to duplicate or improve that bottom group. Thanks for the PM's and responses. -

I know everyone is looking for some but I really was planning on using 168gr out of my 280ai and after quite a few loads found 140 shoot the best....I have 168 to trade some 210 in .30 cal and some various .25 cal berger if anyone wants a trade or I'll buy if anyone can spare a half box or something as I continue load development... Thanks... -

Took a quick day trip to the Black River, Boys had a good time. Didn't get into many big fish, but caught 50-60 fish in about 5-6 hours. Excuse the flat brim hat.... some peoples children. Both of my Son's. This is what makes life worth living!!!

Even cedar covered acres priced at 7-10k an acre are not selling at this time. Tough for sure. Good luck with the sale.
