Archery Deer hunts north of the rim in Dec/Jan?
ctafoya replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The more chances to hunt the better! -
There is the problem. Government standards. They have none anymore.

Don't push it. See specialists and take it day by day. Ive broke sprained separated more things then I can count and know I would feel a lot better and be more mobile now if I would have slowed down and let stuff heel. Up to 16 weeks downtime is better then a life of pain and limitations. Hopefully it wasn't your beer drinking side!

Looks you are out on the road quite a bit. My new job requires me to travel quite a bit and just wondering what your tricks are to keep in shape and stick to it.

What's wrong with savage? Mine out shoot my rem 700's all day. On that note, if I wouldn't have wasted money on my latest rem 700 this would be added to my safe. Bump for a nice rifle.

Canceled this year.

How did you get into hunting and the outdoors?
ctafoya replied to capoeirajosh's topic in The Campfire
got hungry. -
Right ear is going downhill from all the gunfire it has been subject to. Cant even use if for talking on the phone, but I can hear animals, footsteps, etc. hundreds of yards away. Doesn't make any sense.

I knew it was only a matter of time before this came up!

Well I jumped back up to 227. Went from 257 down to 203 and now back up. Been eating like $h!t and drinking a few too many. Time to get it going again. My new problem is I will soon be starting a new job that will take me around the country, and sometimes out of the country. Its gonna be hard to eat healthy on the road and find hotels with fitness centers. I'll have to find new ways to get a workout in without any equipment. Any ideas?

Any one every stashed hunting gear-supplise in the back country?
ctafoya replied to muledeerhntr's topic in The Campfire
I found several stashes years ago in northern cali around a lake. Several ammo boxes with everything you could imagine, inflatable boats, outboard motors, etc. It had all ben out there for quite some time. Motors locked up boat dry rotted. -
I spilled my coffee this morning and had a puddle about 16 inches around. Thats about it.

My oldest shot his bull last year with my 300WSM. 168gn berger. Entry wound the size of a golfball and liquefied lungs at 100 yards. Dropped him instantly. No blood except from the mouth and nose.

Two of my boys are getting mounts done. Should have em back in a few weeks. One did a shoulder mount one did a rug. Both closed mouth. Looks more natural.

No joke on with the hard hat. During my elk hunt i was on a stalk and a storm rolled in. Trees starting coming down all around us. Scary stuff.

Just as long as they aren't "green tip"

Draw results are also out today.

If you see a rattler in the sticks, don't be alarmed. Pick it right up as he only wants to play with you.

My only question is why would you mix coors and bud light? -
Nice pig. Looks like you were just on the other side of the mountain from me.

So, do you eat the bear(s) you kill???
ctafoya replied to Lv2hnt's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I have held off on hunting bear cuz im not sure I would like it. I cant see the point in killing an animal if I wont use every ounce of it. Minus bones and guts of course. Seeing there are a lot of bear eaters on here I might give it a try and donate it to one or some of you guys if I don't like it. -
Growing up in New Mexico we didn't have much to do, so my best friend and I had a huge snake collection. After a few years we started catching rattlers. We used to sell them to the roundup, but we didn't agree with the way they treated them so we quit. Every Easter we would go out and get a sack full to cook up with dinner. It always seemed strange to us that they would always come out on Easter. No matter what. As I got older, and slower, the catching stopped to taking pictures and just watching them. The coolest experience was watching a pair get it on. Its definitely a site to see.
