I agree with the 'near the Pena Blanca / Arrivaca Rd" comment. There is a public campground just past the lake turn off (Pena Blanca) and if you go another 1/2 mile or so, there is usually a group of hunters camped there.

I don't see .32 remington on any of the lists . I have a Remington Model 14 bought new by my Grandfather , I believe in 1916 . I take ' Grandpa' for a walk every whitetail season in New York . Buy the cartridges from Reeds Ammo .

In the October hunt last year, arrived on Tuesday got set up and around 8 p.m. or so , saw lights coming up the draw . Pistol nearby and next thing said was "border patrol" , two young guys ,body armor,black uni's and whatever semi weapon is carried today stroll into our site. they had walked aprrox. 3 miles through canyon and wash to get where we were and had another 1 1/2 mile to get to a meeting point with the rest of their group. Have had awacs fly over , 'airwolf helicopters , multiple black SUV's , quads , BP vehicles come past our site . Never have seen a U A , lots of trash ,from the walkers. Have not felt unsafe , however , the 44 mag sleeps and eats with me . We hunt about midpoint between Arrivaca and Pena Blanca Lake .

Sweet , is that the area south and west of Arrivaca?

yes, a Ruger .270 in the mannlicher stock . I have had my eye on a Steyr Mannlicher on BP for awhile but the price is pretty steep for someone in the contracting business today.

Have not hunted that area recently , however , I used to go through 'Kings Anvil Ranch , approx. 6-7 miles southwest of 3 Points. Got my first AZ. coues there. Think the area was called Washita Pass . had to sign in and out in those days and the ranchers seemed annoyed with us passing through. Your hunting in the shade of the Baboquivaries(sp.?) Jim

270 , please do not wish that on New York. NY state ranks 13th in Federal/state owned land , Arizona is 6th. there is a lot of public hunting ground available in the Catskill and Adironack Mountains. Now, if they would only ship em to New Jersey Jim

Gentlemen and Ladies, this is my first post and I will appreciate any thoughts you may have. I hunt coues in the 36B unit and am entertaining the thought of game cameras for the first time . Where I hunt seems to be a very active area for undocumented workers traveling through as well as some drug players. I evidence this by the trash left behind as well as DEA and Border Patrols frequent travels on the jeep trails in the area we camp. I am concerned with the cameras being stolen / damaged . Anyone have any similar issues . thanks

I am not a new hunter to Arizona , have hunted here for about 20 years with some fair success. First hunt in 36C , the December hunt . Took a very nice 3 point . Then have hunted 36B for the last 18 years with success . I have property in the Catskill Mountains in New York and go back for ten days hunting whitetail. It was amazing for me to shoot my first Coues deer and have to put him on my back and carry him a mile back to camp. It was a that point ,that I realized what I had in New York was ' gentleman hunting' , cabin , wood stove , quads and a bed compared to tent ,firepit and sleeping on the ground in this great state. Saw a Coues Whitetail.Com sticker on a truck in my north Phoenix neighborhood this morning. Question regarding the October hunt in 36B : I always believed the dates of the hunt included the last full weekend in October . I see that this year it is earlier than it has ever been . Anyone have a thought on that. Jim

azslim, No disagreements about seeing/locating deer in 36B . Just was looking at it as some entertainment as well as some confirmation. I do appreciate the responses and look forward to some more posting of thoughts and questions. As a New Yorker who had not shot a deer more than 80 yards away , the hunting in this state has been an education.
