idgaf replied to POk3s's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My nephew had the unit two weeks ago. Saw 11 bucks. 9 were branch antlered including 1 behemoth in 2.5 days of hunting. -
It was 105 during my nephews hunt. He didn't complain.

They didn't charge him. Happened to me on my rio tag. I mentioned it here and got a call later that afternoon

You may not believe this. Helping my nephew on his junior hunt on Friday he takes a couple of shots at a giant coues. We split up and look for evidence of a hit. After five hours of looking, nothing. I decide to take a drainage back to the trucks. At dark, I was thinking of putting my headlamp on, when I step on a rattlesnake. Thinking fast or slow, idk, i dive off the snake into rocks 3 or 4 feet down and 6 feet away. Hitting my right side in those rocks and knocking my sidearm another 6 feet in front of me. I put it back in the holster, go a few yards father. Grab my headlamp and start looking for snakebites. Quick once over and I'm okay. Now fully dark and my headlamp properly placed on my head. I see a set of yellow eyes looking at me maybe 15' higher 40 or 50 yards down the drainage. I get closer, only watching the eyes the whole time with them moving out of sight a couple of times only to go back to back to it's perch. With me yelling at it the whole time I am now 20 yards away. My brother and nephew get back to the truck and give me a call. I tell them what I am looking at and my brothers yells SHOOT! Ironically, the pistol i brought was only for snakes. The heritage revolver with a 22 mag cylinder. With my brother on the phone, I pull the trigger back and click, again, click and again. Finally when I stopped aiming i get a round to go off. Peppering yellow eyes with rock shrapnel. It finally turns and I don't see yellow eyes anymore Now it gets dangerous. I go further and come to a dried out waterfall, 12 or 15 feet high with Cliffs on both sides. Instead of going back through snakes and demon eyes, i decide to scale down. Takes me awhile and couple of different descents only falling when I am 6 inches from the bottom. I get to the trucks, drop my pants and have my brother and nephew check for snake bites. I had my nephew google what north american animals have yellow eyes. There are two. Mt lions and raccoons. This wasn't a racoon. The next morning I find this on my boot. Oh and couple of days later, my nephew gets his first buck!

That's what she said. And pointed what appeared to be dried liquid stains. I felt the snake under my heel, but did not feel anything else.

My daughter. My snake expert said it was bite. Honestly, idk.

Hahaha. I wish. Two attractive nurses stabbing me in the butt, simultaneously, over multiple days.

I had a similar issue once. Ended up with rabies shots.

My friend was up there during the archery hunt, helping his cousin. I can give you his number. They were chasing a couple of tanks.

According to dennis(he's in Wyoming right now shooting whitetails and antelope) the lady that owns the property was going to sell the land to a grocery store. Btw our last fishing trip to woods canyon. He had a special lure, which I lost 4 of.

We were up there at the same time. The four guys i had conservations with all had mid-teens points. A couple were in the late 20/early thirties. I had 17 points.

I think it's 55 now.

I have a question as well. I put in for a 1 tag turkey unit. I would have more points by a couple than anyone else. Does the bonus draw apply for one permit turkey units?

After you skin it. Smell the meat.

Not my realm. I'm just saying the elk are starting their September thing.

They are bugling in 3b and unit 1

It would go something like be a man hunt mature animals. 🙄 wouldn't you and your friends have more time in the field if you hunted full size animals? Im just saying there are more people in the field now than ever. This lowers individual hunting hours as the masses increase, so overall hunting days for species increases. There is a way to keep harvest limits the same, increase age of harvest and increase hunting days in the field. It wouldn't be liked though. That is to designate rotating units traditional only. Archery would be traditional only, muzzleloaders no scopes and no inlines, and rifles be limited to say 9 power scopes. Do that for a couple of seasons and than go back to modern methods and after the initial complaining alot of hunters would be super excited To get that hiatus tag. I publicly shame two close friends and my dad(rip) for being meat hunters every chance I get and they do the same to me. I did shoot a spike elk this year. (More for the bones than the meat) I also shot a calf with dots 3 seasons ago. (It was hit by a car) After writing all this. Everyone will do what they want and should be proud.

It's not the quota, it's the hunters. the hunters not having self control. Just a few years ago unit 1 was a draw. All of the new people hunting have changed the metrics. Having created adult onset bowhunters/meathunters. (Of course they could buy alot of cows if they sold their side by sides.) NRs have been capped at 3500ish permits. My suggestion would be, if I was in charge for a few minutes, for g&f to use some of there newly allotted marketing funds to encourage only shooting mature animals. Of course that won't happen so it's upto us to publicallly shame any adult who shoots a spike/fork. If he doesn't care than he's truly a meat hunter and congrats to him.

Once season comes around, they go into a portal and will not be seen until the day after season ends.

My hearing aids were like 5000 bucks, would the new rule mean I have to take them out when i hunt?
-
For my velvet bull from last year , I cut slits on the top and coated with acetone and honestly forgot about it outside for the last year.
-
My daughter has a late season bull tag for the area. Let's just say I like her chances at a bigger bull than most of the early season hunters will get a chance at

When I had my tag In 17 they were everywhere. When I was back there in 19 for my strip deer hunt. I saw one set of tracks.
