You know private land is just that, private land. A guy can do what he wants with it and a lot of times the public hunters gets shafted because of a gate...
If this is a true attempt at gaining back some access to public lands then good job AZGFD. You can be pissed off or whatever but at least they're trying to gain some input. I've seen a lot of land get locked up in areas I have hunted and would love to continue to hunt. If I had to pay a small fee to access it then I would. Otherwise, I won't get to hunt it period.
My hope is that the G and F will continue to work out access issues. If this is what its for, nice work game and fish.
I find there selection methods for the survey suspicious. My daughter has had two drawn tags in ten years of trying and is a casual hunter at best.
On access issues, I have yet to find a place I want to go to that I can not without a little extra effort.

My nineteen year old daughter got one. This looks like a money grab. Looks more like a farce than anything.

I actually know a few guys (one posts very nice coues deer online every year) and they shoot twice a year; once to make sure the bow is sighted in and once when they kill their deer. They hunts tree stands or blinds and keep all shots under 20 yards so they don't have to practice. Hope that doesn't start off even more controversy. Lol.
I don't see anybody championing "no practice" on any of these threads.I would rather see a guy who practices too much and shoots too far than a guy who buys a bow two weeks before his archery elk hunt. I practice out to a hundred yards or so, but with a twist. I turn my target sideways and put rocks on each side of it. It helps with my focus.
I agree with idgaf though. It's scary and sad watching some guys shoot at the range and expecting to go hunting in a week or two when they can't hit a pie plate at 30 yards! My only solace is most can't even find deer to fling arrows at...
No one would champion no practice in a perfect world. In reality go to any pro shop and ask how many bows they sell the week before season. I will put the over/under on "wounded bull" threads at ten. Whether they mention it or not, Two of the factors being distance and practice

If you are good at what you do there is always some form of hubris when you are doing it. Where guides "go sour" with regular hunters is there attitude towards you hunting in their area. I have run across many guides, some of them sponsors on this website and some I consider friends, in the field and when I am in the area they want to themselves they tell me intimate details of a giant buck or bull only a few miles away from where we are right now. I ask this question (knowing the answer) "why aren't you hunting over there then?" The answer is always the same.
To a good guide hunting is a business and a passion, to me as a diy hunter it is just a passion. You as a guide scout "x" amount of days to prepare your business. Me, as a passionate hunter scout "x" amount of days to feed my passion. Similar but different in intent.

I think there are big deer everywhere, its just a question of how many and how easy they are to find. Some of the best hunters i know shoot giant deer and never post it on Facebook or anywhere else so the story and the unit go untold. Get a tag for the area you want and hunt it like a trophy hunt and you may surprise yourself on the outcome. My personal choices are archery 13b (never been there) and 3c rifle(very large bucks and close to home). I have shot at very large deer in non premier units and it wasn't the deer or units fault I couldn't shoot straight.

I am looking forward to the January hunt there.

A couple of years ago I had a limited opportunity any elk tag in 3b north. I did my due diligence and found two giant bulls, one with ivory white antlers I named Irwin, after a guy I use to work with. After the first weekend I met a nice gentlemen with a foxpro at some elk about mile from where I was normally hunting. We talked after the elk left and he mentioned this was the first elk he had seen and he would be leaving tonight and his hunt was over. I told him I found a big bull about a mile away and pointed in the direction I would be hunting.
The next morning the bulls were screaming and I am approaching Irwin and within 50 yards than BOOM my new friend takes a shot, Irwin runs in front of me and stops in the open for a moment (I was in the line of fire and not happy). I had to decide to shoot or dont shoot. I did not shoot. The gentlemen steps out startled to see me and where I was, puts his head down and takes off after Irwin. I was mad at myself for opening my mouth about my scouted spot.
Bottom line, the animals we hunt are not the only obstacles we have to keep in consideration. Don't let the human element ruin your hunt.

Not to hijack this thread by any means, but how much difference is there between a cow and bull mount. I want to shoot one with my bow also

I got the late season coon canyon archery hunt last year. No shortage of elk that is for sure. This year I have no interest I want to shoot a bull in June, July or August in one of the otc units.

I think your best option is giving me your tag. I will let you know how you do. Or you could email him and ask where he is going to be and avoid those areas. Sounds like you guys could be civil for a few moments before blood is drawn.

I think this is a good idea, Have the government entity collect more fees/taxes and redistribute to the ones they think need it the most. I think there is precedence and it has worked really great. Oh wait I am on CWT not MSN.
