Practice Shoot at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club 9-27
Mike S posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Attention Hunters and Shooters, Phoenix Rod and Gun Club is having a Hunting Rifle Shoot on Saturday September 27, 8:00AM, arrive early for set up. Cost is $15 for non club members. We will be shooting animal targets ranging from javelina to deer, bear, antelope and maybe elk from 100 to 400+ yards from field positions, some with time or other constraints. There will be several different stages with fewer than 35 rounds fired. You can use different rifles (hunting type) for different stages if you wish. This is intended not as a shooting match but as an opportunity to practice with your hunting gear and techniques in field conditions. Bring anything you would use on a hunt and nothing you wouldn’t. It will be at the PRGC High Power Range. PRGC is at the southern end of 7th AVENUE (not street) up against the mountain. HP is accessed at the gate to the left at the back of the public range parking lot. For additional info see: http://arizona-rifleshooting.com/huntin ... -PRGC.html Hope to see you there. Feel free to post or PM with questions Mike Samer Hunting Rifle Shoot Director -

We usually run a few in the spring and 1 in the fall before the rifle hunts start up. I'll post them here and they will also be listed on Bill's webpage here: http://arizona-rifleshooting.com/hunting-rifle-shoot-PRGC.html -
Couldn't hurt.

That was my idea. Can changing a primer change the speed up to 1-200 fps faster? Doubtful in my opinion...
-
Let me know if you have one you'd part with. Mike

Thanks to all who braved the ominous weather forecast and came out this morning... We had 17 shooters and a couple of observers (hopefully they will be shooting next time). We had a few hiccups with gusting winds vs. cardboard targets, but a good time was had by all and we wrapped up just before the skies opened up! Thanks again to all who participated and hope to see you next time. Mike -
That's fast, what barrel length?
-
If you can get any Reloder 22 I find that gives the highest velocities in my .270.

Just got back from the range, sorting/making targets etc. I will be there in the AM and we can how it looks. We can certainly shoot in a light or intermittent rain, just like hunting ;-). . . we may also make greater use of the covered firing points. Don't forget eye and ear protection, a pencil for keeping your score, and a rain jacket. Mike -

Great, look forward to meeting some more CWT members... bo5953, sorry you can't make it this time. We'll be having more next year though. -
I absolutely buy into that idea. Could be the receiver, the bases, or the rings (my bet is the receiver). All have certain tolerances and sometimes they stack up in a bad direction... If you loosen the rear mount screws and tighten the fronts does the rear of the rail rise? Mounting a spare scope should confirm it is or isn't the scope. Shims are available here: http://www.sinclairintl.com/optics/optic-accessories/mounting-tools/hart-scope-base-shims-prod6883.aspx Assuming a 4" spacing between front and rear mounting holes, a 0.033" rear shim will get you 30 MOA down leaving you 45 MOA up. Let us know what you find out.
-
Sounds like you have confirmed the elevation travel is available in the scope. You may need to shim the base or go to rings with offset inserts like STOMP 442 suggests.

I know that look well...used to have to sneak my guns past my setter & pointer.

Have any good video links for shooting long range in the wind?
Mike S replied to Chris's topic in Long Range Shooting
This demo may give you a head start... with the turret twisting end of it of you are doing that. http://www.shooterready.com/lrsdemo.html High power shooting web pages have good info as well No substitute for actual range time but hope this helps, Have fun. -
I wasn't going to lecture you. I used to use matchkings on whitetails out of my .300 Win mag because they shot 1/2MOA. I did find them explosive and would only recommend them for clean broadside chest shots at the speed and RPM the 1 in 10 twist .300 gave them. How did they do on the hogs at .308 velocities?
-
Are you using the matchking for hunting?
-
Bump with lowered price in time for dove season.
-
They only make a 26", but it does swing well...

If you shoot with a brake, you need to be using ear protection in the field or you will damage your hearing. Been there done that.
