The 6.5-06 and the 6.5-284 Norma have essentially the same case capacity. You can use 6.5-284 data which there is a lot more of for a starting point and go from there. H1000 and Retumbo which are near impossible to find right now work amazing in that caliber. H4350 and H4831sc will also work quite well but will be a bit harder on barrels and give up a bit of velocity.

If you're not a member yet go join up over at savageshooters.com. They have lots of info over there on doing just the kind of thing you are trying to do and you can also find pretty good deals on parts in the classifieds. I am a member there as well so hit me up if you need to.

Sounds like its an older model Savage, probably one of the flat back models. Nothing special to look at but they sure can shoot when done up properly. 1. Can't go wrong with any of the big-name pre-fits. I have had excellent results with both Mcgowen, and Criterion and are more readily available. Contact Jim at Northlands Shooters supply for barrels. 2. Unless you plan on shooting the 195-197 class bullets the normal 9 twist is sufficient for anything from 120-180gr. Contour is completely up to you, I personally like a magnum contour barrel. 3. Depends on what route you go with the barrel. If you find a pre-fit in stock that matches your criteria but is not threaded take it to a smith for brake fitment. If you are having to custom order one just as well have them thread it for you while they are at it. Mcgowen actually offers a few different styles of brakes for install. 4. Stocks are definitely the downside to a Savage. There are not a whole lot of options out there, especially for a long action. Boyds will give you the most options, Bell & Carlson may offer one as well as Hogue or Choate but those get a bit heavy. 5. I would definitely upgrade the trigger with a Rifle Basix Sav-1. You can pick them up for around $90 if you shop around. Great trigger for the money and an upgrade I wouldn't pass on especially when putting the amount of money into the project that you already are. Here is a few links for you to look at for in-stock barrels and other Savage goodies. http://www.gunshack.com/savage-parts http://thebarreloutlet.com/ http://northlandshooterssupply.com/

Question about temperature affecting the shot
STOMP442 replied to maximus's topic in Long Range Shooting
Depending on the powder used there shouldn't be much if any movement. Elevation difference would be a much bigger concern. -
I have a like new Fox Pro Wildfire predator call. I won this in a raffle a few years back and I bet I have only used it 3 maybe 4 times. Asking $100 and will ship anywhere in AZ for that price. Attached is a photo I found online of the model I have.

Wow! Okay I got hit all at once by 3 different people. I am Going to go by time stamp. Sold Pending Funds to Mathews. He sent a PM first. Briant is next but I no longer have the box. Flatlander is 3rd in line.

I say stick with the .257 Weatherby, especially if you re-load you already have all the stuff for it.

As long as you have a center feed style action this should work fine. The only issue maybe if you have a top/side bolt release or a bottom bolt release. This particular stock looks to be set up for the top/side version.

I have built quite a few of them. Great cartridge and performance. The only downside to this cartridge is having to neck down .270WSM brass and turning the necks. Other than that its all positive. Better quality brass available than the crappy Hornady for the PRC and more widely available and cheaper than the SAUM and better velocity than both of them. Sweet spot with the 140s seems to be right around the 3150fps mark. H1000 and Retumbo work well.

Located in Safford. I have for sale a really nice Savage 17HMR with bedded walnut stock, heavy barrel, Rifle Basix trigger, Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 scope in Burris Zee rings and two full boxes of ammo and 2 partial boxes. I have less than 200 rounds down the barrel basically just seeing what ammo shot the best. They all shot about the same 1/2" or so groups at 50 yards. Looking for $400 for the package or $300 for just the rifle.

Tikka t3x 300 win mag stainless magazine issues
STOMP442 replied to Black_Flag's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The rifle should be fine for the hunt especially if it's shooting like that. I would at some point after the hunt make sure it is seated properly in the stock. -

Hate to break it to you but if the rifle has been out of the stock it needs to be re-zeroed or at minimum checked. If you do not have it seated properly on the lug you will be wayyyy high. The tikka mag should slide in and click into place with very little pressure, especially in a factory stock. If I were you I would make some time to check zero before my hunt. I would hate to miss a nice buck over something so easily checked. -

STOMP442 replied to Black_Flag's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have you had the action out of the stock? If so and you didn't get the action set back over the recoil lug just right you can cause a binding issue. I can't even count how many times I have had a tikka come into the shop that wasn't fully seated over the recoil lug properly. The other thing to look for is a possible tight spot in the magazine well. Could be it just needs a little sanding to free up. -
Thats a beautiful buck! He looks completely different at every angle, very cool.
