Glass is the biggest key like everyone has already said and second would be getting comfortable with longer shots in my opinion. Get some good glass and get comfortable glassing and you will start seeing deer. I remember showing up the day before my first coues hunt started in 24a. I wasn't able to scout before the hunt at all with all the hunts that year and had never been to globe to hunt. My dad grew up in globe but didn't hunt much. He took me to the top of the pinals and as soon as we got to the back side I said "we need better glass." Turned around and went to walmart and bought a cheap pair of Nikon 12x. (Best they had). I actually glassed up 2 bucks in the first 20 minutes of light off hand with the cheap glass. Still took me 4 years before I took my first coues but I have slowly upgraded my gear every year and am much more patient sitting in the glass. Keep reading everything you can about coues and keep hunting. Eventually what you've read and what you experience in the field will come together and you'll be wrapping a tag around your first coues.

Those are sweet!

I wouldn't mind a cow tied to a tree while you're at it. Taking a junior on her first hunt this year and hoping she can tag out early.

You'll never learn anything on the sidelines holding a leg. You just gotta get in there and do it. The more practice you have the more comfortable you get. Don't be scared of messing it up, Everyone's popped a gut at some point and it happens.

I've stepped over plenty to have someone behind me ask "didn't you like this shed?"

They sent my buddy's money order back that's already been made out to game and fish. Are those refundable?

Very cool! I haven't seen a lot of bob cats but that seems like a good sized cat.

I tried a pair of under armour boots a couple years ago. They were worn out in 6 months or less and my feet always seemed to be cold. Not sure if I bought the cheap under armour brand but I won't buy another to find out. -
Sounds like you are one lucky man! Those recluse bites are no joke! I got a good laugh from your message since I am the same age as you and pretty bull headed but you got me thinking.

Blame it on the forums. Step by step instructions on when, where, what and how to apply for left overs.

Just spend time at the range until the hunt. Show up and you'll have opportunity as long as you don't spend the whole time in camp. That's how it was when I had the junior hunt anyways.

Wasn't trying to knock your post. Just throwing it out there that I know a few people that sling way too many arrows no matter how much i tell them it's a bad idea. Completely agree it's a great thread for people to look at shot opportunities that haven't seen many in the field and judge the good shots from the bad.

I think that is a shot you would take at that range if you subtract the point that it is dark and I can't see what is behind it. I feel like this one is a trick because it seems like an easy shot.

Of course he will be in the magazine! Sitting next to his daughter and her monster bull. Wouldn't you?
-
I like the idea but I feel stupid people will take stupid shots no matter how much you pound it into their head. Also agree with sometimes just don't go as planned as written above. Can't wait to see more pictures tho!

I thought the rule was you just can't hunt for 48 or 72 hours after flying? I don't see why it's such a big deal if you aren't hunting from the aircraft? I've always wanted to have a fly over the unit I always hunt. I think it would be cool to see the area I stomp around from above. I have always been curious how it would go with marking waypoints on my GPS.

Planes probably cheaper

I won't use century link ever again. I finally broke down and was going to get an internet service last year when I received a flyer from century link advertising 15 Mbps for $19.99. I called them up, mentioned the flyer and ordered it. I happen to be home when the technician came to hook up the cable outside and I asked him about the Mbps and he said my neighborhood was only getting 1.2 Mbps. I let him finish hooking up, went inside and cancelled the service the same day. I was Told when I ordered that I had 30 days to decide If I was going to keep it without being charged. They sent me a $70 bill for 1 days service. Switched to cox for $49.99 a month. Seems outrageous to pay $50 a month on internet to me but I don't have cable tv so I save there.
