We used to have some spots fairly close to home and the kids had an absolute blast. We'd take a canopy, chairs, set up some chairs and make an afternoon of it. That said we were shooting 25-06 & .556 when ammo was a lot cheaper. I have heard a lot of the towns got bubonic plague and were eradicated, but it's been many years since I checked on the towns. These were in unit 1, 3b & 3c + whatever is west of St. Johns.

I'm just wondering what grill you guys are using and what works. I have a Green Mountain and ruined a couple great pieces of meat because it's gauges are so far off. I just turned it up to 200 with 2 oven thermometers they, and a Meater thermometer were both reading over 300 degrees. Camp Chef, Treager, Pit Boss? What's working for you guys?

I highly recommend this thermometer if you find your grill is reporting incorrect temps. https://store-us.meater.com/products/meater-plus It's how I found out my grill was so far off in the first place and saved my last two tri-tips.

Yeah same here on the Yoder. Nice but, no way can I justify that with the amount of meat smoking I do. I haven't contacted GMG yet. There are quite a few videos out there on calibrating them, so I'll go that route first. I appreciate all the replies here, guys. Good to hear such a variety of experiences.

The first time I saw that hunting with my boys, my imagination went wild. I was sure somewhere in the area we hunt was an exposed gold vein or at least some dirt with a lot of gold in it. Folks on here explained it, which was a little bitter-sweet. Thanks for posting!

I was just at lunch with a buddy and he got a text from a guy who had just gotten his card hit - this was less than an hour ago. Hold on to hope!

Always a good job to spray off the undercarriage when coming back from Rocky Point

Hey guys, I have some buddies from out of state who want to come hunt some Javelina. They are specifically looking at the San Carlos reservation and possibly Ft. Apache. I've hunted the San Carlos for coues a couple of times in November, and didn't see many pigs. I was mostly in units A and B. Most of my time was spent between Sawmill and Rocky Gulch. I also hunted the areas between the Western boundary around the Sevenmile mountains and Natural Corral. These guys will be coming from Montanna and I'd really like to put them in good areas to find pigs, but given my limited experience on the reservation, I'm not sure where to focus. I'm not necessarily looking for exact spots, just general areas where populations are healthy. I'm also open to suggestions on the Ft. Apache side. Unfortunately, I've only been along on one "ride-along" pig hunt on this reservation and we basically just drove the road from the Salt River bridge to Cherry Creek - never saw a pig, but got sidetracked with quail. If anyone would like to share some pointers, I would greatly appreciate any advice. Feel free to PM me if that works better for you. Thanks, Coach.

That didn't take long. As a kid I dreamed of having one. Thanks for the nostalgia.

If it were up to me, especially in habitual offenders the fines would be triple and so would the jail time.

Nice buck! Congrats and thanks for posting the video.

That is awesome! Great job guys, and best of luck to the remaining hunter.

I was on an archery bull hunt a couple years ago in unit 1 and went into Western Drug to buy a couple additional elk calls. The young lady behind the counter asked if I had a tag, and of course I said "yes". She was surprised and said almost all the elk call they had been selling were to locals who just wanted to "mess up people's hunts". I was pretty surprised by that. Didn't see any of it going on personally but TBO I barely saw other hunters in the areas I was in.

Sorry guys, old post. Decided to keep it.
