Blue Ridge High Looking for Another State Championship
Coach replied to Coach's topic in The Campfire
Here's hoping! I played for coach Moro back in the day ('87 - '88). We took state my Jr. year, lost to Parker my Sr. year in the simi-finals. Now my kids are playing. Matt, my oldest is a DE & TE just like I was. He's a freshman. Nick, my middle son plays QB at the 8th grade level, and my youngest son, Josh played QB and 4Back at the 5th/6th grade level. It's gonna be awesome to watch these kids continue to play. BR football rocks. -
Blue Ridge High Looking for Another State Championship

21-7 at halftime, Seton has a nice lead. One thing Blue Ridge does very well is make adjustments at half-time, but coming into the second half down by two touchdowns is going to be a real uphill battle. Seaton is playing very well on both sides of the ball, and while BR had a great scoring drive their first possession, Seton done a good job of containing our offense. -
Nicely done!

Can't wait! It's gonna be a good one. I'm not very good at predicting these games, but I doubt this one will be a blow out either way. GO CATS!!!

stuck cases in my resizing die
Coach replied to swaro06's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I always use the case lube by Frankford Arsenal. Not too much on the outside- I roll them on a paper towell. But you also have to lube up some q-tips and hit the inside of the neck. I've only had a few stuck, but it's usually the inside neck that sticks and it can ruin a resizing die really quick. -
Prayers sent. Hoping for a full recovery for you. I pray that you have many more days with your wife and sons.

I sure like the Rock River two-stage trigger. I've known a few guys who put together the lower halves with success - I haven't tried it yet. Seems the upper halves can be a little more complicated with the gas tube. It's pretty critical you get that right, since it powers the cycling action. Too much gas too soon, and you're stripping through the cartridge base too early while it's still expanding against the chamber. Not enough and you don't cycle fully. From what I've read, this delicate tuning issue got a lot of our guys killed back in the early days of the AR (M16 in 'Nam) when different burning powder was used to test vs. what was issued. Google "Saga of the Black Rifle".

Took out my 10 year old sister Thanksgiving morning and...

Nice job! Those coyotes can be tough to get a shot at, but you did well. Thanks a lot for posing with that shotgun (lol). I almost forgot how bad I want one of those Brownings with the straight stock. -
Nice video, Jed. Looks like you had the right game plan. Late archery is one heck of a hard hunt. You did well to get that close, just a little bit out of reach.

Almost took a picture of my budweiser can - I thought it said "post your drinks". Guess I'm gonna have to start a new thread.

An Improbable Journey: My Hunt with Greg Stube
Coach replied to Diamond Outfitters's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Wow, I've read a lot of hunting stories on this forum - I have to say, this one is my favorite by far. Huge congrats to Greg, and a sincere thank-you to Greg, and to you, Dan, for your service to our country. My dad's flyfishing club does yearly trips with soldiers coming back home with missing limbs, eyes. I just can't express enough how inspired I am by the men and women who give so much for us. Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us.- 13 replies

Great looking buck! Huge congrats. -
That's a great looking buck! Glad he kept showing up for you! Nice job on the video footage too.

The kids and I cleaned up. 4 for 4 for pigs and turkey - guess that's 8 for 8, lol. Matt (my oldest) and I got 23 archery javi. That should be a fun hunt. Nick (middle son) got 23 youth javi and Josh (youngest) got 24A/B youth javi. Nick and Josh got the unit 1 youth turkey, Matt got the 3C youth turkey, and I'm left with clean-up with the late unit 1 turkey. Looks like a busy Spring! Congrats to everyone who drew.

Yeah, the AZGFD website even says they are available, but all I see are fall results. Any time now...

Father & Son's First Arizona Mule Deer Bucks 2012
Coach replied to CampbellsCouesAdventures's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Awesome job Bill! Loved the story too! -
I hit a bull elk many years back. I knew the shot was high in the scapula. I spent 6 days looking for that elk. I wouldn't even bring my bow with me, and could have killed 2 or three bigger bulls. Finally, I meet some guys on the road as I'm going back looking for this bull one more day. They have a bull beaten nearly to death at the edge of a field..I couldn't bear two wounded elk, so I put my tag on this one, too weak to stand up. If you hit an animal with a lethal shot, that's your tag. I've burned more than one tag in the fire when I messed up. An ethical hunter knows they can keep on hunting, or burn their tag when they lose a wounded animal. As far as I'm concerned, your tag is good for one animal. If you somehow fail to tag a mortally wounded animal, you should relinquish your tag, whether in the fire pit of turn it over.

Wow, as I read the responses here, I just want to say "Thank You" to all of the kind posts. You guys rock and really make this place feel like a great group of friends.

IMO, it's not an archery vs. rifle thing. I've seen it from both ends. Legally, there is very little to enforce tracking a badly hit animal. This is where ethics come into play. I thought I knew a little bit about tracking and following blood trails, until I met an old friend I'll just call Doug. Doug taught me so much about following blood. For one, if you're not on your hands and knees, you aren't doing your job. I see a lot of guys walking around, looking for obvious blood...Sorry, but that doesn't cut it. Once you've hit an animal, the responsibility lies directly on you to do everything you can to find it. And the only way to do that is to get on your hands and knees, and work the point of the shot, to the jump tracks, to the last drop of blood. I've worked a number of "bad hit" blood trails now, and none of them are any fun. But you owe it to the animal to track it as far as you can, realize that when it realizes that it is hurt, it's gonna go down hill and toward water. But that animal might just keep on walking so you might have to track it many miles.
