  1. I didn't want to derail the the other barrel length thread, so I wanted to ask specifically about barrel length on an AR 10. It seems most of them max out around 18 inches. I've been looking on Gunbroker for a 24 - 26" upper and it seems they are kind of an anomaly on this platform. Am I wrong to think a longer barrel will translate into better performance and accuracy in a .308?

    Building an AR-10

Thanks for all the replies. One of the reasons I brought this up was I was looking for a 24-26" barrel. In the .308, can you get the full benefit from an 20" barrel?

No Fish on the Lower Black!!!!!

It's really sad - I've been fishing the Black for decades. It's one of the reasons I moved out of the valley a long time ago so I could be closer for fun Spring fishing. Not sure where to start - there are a lot of people who keep everything they catch. That doesn't help, but the health of the river has been declining due to the fires. Seems now there's a build-up of sludge all along the river. The smallmouth population is tied directly to the amount of crawfish in the creek/river. I used to carry only a pole and a few hooks, and catch crawdads for bait. With all the muddy sediment now it's hard to even catch a few crawdads. No crawdads, no food supply for the smallies, other than the bugs that fall into the water. That protein-rich, always-available food source is the sole reason the fish grow so fast and always replentish. Then there's the stingy gray/green moss. This is new to me since the wallow fire. The parasites have always been there - not sure why. Years ago I learned that if I was keeping a fish to eat, you had to clean it really well - those little things that look like seeds in the flesh are worm-like parasites. Probably dead after a good frying, but I don't take chances with them.
  5. Because they are "hit and miss". Get a good one, it shoots great. Get a bad one, and with a lot of work and patience and trial-and-error, you'll eventually get it to shoot great. Same could be said of 26 Nosler, or any wildcat/overbored rifle.
  6. This time of year, it seems there's so much going on at work. As I read each of these youth hunter success stories I really want to respond with more than a "great job" reply. These youth hunters are the future of hunting in this state, and let's be honest, this is one of the last places to have so much open public land, so much opportunity. I just want to say a huge congrats to all the youth hunters out there getting their first taste of the hunt, and especially all the dads, moms - families out there getting behind them and making incredible memories that will ultimately play a huge role in shaping the way these kids think about hunting. Good role models teaching ethics-based hunting, is going to give these kids a solid foundation to preserve our sport, our land and our heritage. Thanks to all of you, and again, huge congrats to those young people out there learning and getting ready to carry the torch.

  14. I've had my ranger for several years now and it's always run great. Today I took it out on a scouting trip for my son's upcoming youth hunt and it was running really rough (seemed to be missing?) at lower speeds and even backfired when it would miss/lag. By mid-day it seemed to be back to running smoothly. Any ideas on what could cause this?

Polaris ranger question - rough, backfire

Mine's a 2006 also but 700 XP, fuel injected. How big of job was it to replace the pump? BTW, just an update. I replaced the spark plugs today and ran some Marvel's Miracle Oil (couldn't resist) and it's running great.

AzDiamondHeat, I'll have to look into that, but the name conjures up the snake-oil salesman from Josey Wales, lol.

Polaris ranger question - rough, backfire

Thanks for the replies. I've definitely got something to go on now. We checked the air filter and it was clean, the gas was fresh, and the same we ran later in the day. Sounding more like spark plug or wiring to it. I did a quick google search and it also sounds like it could be a dirty injector and folks recommended running some sea-foam - never used that before. Anyway, I really appreciate the responses.

Classic Looking Scope For CZ 550FS?

Can't wait to see your pix. I'm a huge fan of the Mannlicher style stock. I've got a 10/22 in stainless with what they called the "International" stock. I'm sure I'm just picky, but I've always liked a gun with a little style. Never owned a Ruger #1, but it's on my short list for just that reason. Almost bought a Remington 1187 with a straight (English) stock almost 30 years ago. Wish I had, but I was a kid with future plans and every dime accounted for. Looked like this one...

    Elk Heart

Gotta say, between my sons and I, lots of elk, deer, etc. Haven't eaten a heart but next time I'll try it. Liver - no way. I know mine alone would kill half of Cambodia.

    NUT JOB

I have no idea whether this guy had guns modified to full auto. I don't know anything about some of these bump-stock things, but I did see this posted and it actually does make a semi fire like full auto. https://youtu.be/dvLt8-Wf7r0

    NUT JOB

No way to know yet for sure what happened other than a lunatic with a death wish killing dozens of people for no apparent reason. My heart and prayers go out to the families who lost mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters...and that's just immediate family. Let's all just pray for those lost and the unbearable pain their families are going through.
