    Knuckleheads of Yellowstone Park

To me, the sad part is, these people with their mentality - they are never around wild animals. When they do get around them they try to treat them like pets. This has caused at least one black bear at Big Lake to have to be killed so far this year. The momma bear in that video never charged anyone - she was simply trying to get out of a situation where she felt cornered and had cubs to protect.

    Do rage broadheads suck?

For every "Yes the suck", you'll get a "No they rock". I've played around with mechanicals over the years, but always go back to fixed blade. In my experience, if your bow is tuned properly fixed blades will fly with your field points. And a fixed blade is usually stronger than a deployed blade - for obvious reasons. The best heads I've used are Magnus Stingers and Buzz Cuts, Muzzy 3-blade and G5 strikers. Magnus will guarantee their heads for life, meaning if you shoot one into a rock, they'll replace it. I've never taken them up on that because - well, if I ruin a head by shooting it into a rock, that's on me - but who else in the business will stand behind their product like that?
  3. http://www.slickguns.com/category/ammo?caliber=11 Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear - all steel case $.23 -$.26. Zinc plated around $.27 per round, Brass starts around $.31 per round.
  4. Sometimes I love to say "I told you so". AR lowers are back in the $120 range for good brands, PMags are $12-$15 , bulk .223 ammo is actually around $.24 per round - almost a dime a round cheaper than I had predicted. However, .22 LR is still effectively off the market. Gonna have to start a new thread on that.

    NYFD Woman Fails Test

My Ex-brother-in-law (divorce) is a firefighter in the Phx area. I'll tell you what, if I were in a burning building or car I would want him as a first responder. This guy is about 6'7 300 pounds and has hands that look like a sausage rack. He could literally throw a kid over each shoulder and still pull two adults to safety. Dumbing down fitness tests to achieve "equality" is just stupid. I have no problem with women in the police force, marines, combat roles, you name it. If they can get the job done. But when lives are at stake, I want the most capable person doing the job - period.

    10 Guage double barrel

I'm drooling. Somehow I'm thinking Mad Max with a 10 gauge. LOL. Beautiful gun. Wish I didn't have so many expensive projects going on.

    Baltimore Rioters

I agree with the original post. She stood up and took control of her son as she should have. My guess is, there's no dad in the picture. Instead of faulting her for her kid being there in the first place, I commend her for being both parents and stepping up.
  10. I'm reaching out to the community here because I have a situation I don't know how to fix. You guys probably remember that for a couple years, G&F closed unit 27 on the archery deer hunt earlier than Unit 1. One morning I was hunting unit 1, then headed into 27. Problem was, unit 27 had closed 2 days earlier. I encountered a G&F guy and openly told him I was on my way to hunt deer at a specific spot in unit 27 that I had forgotten was closed at that time. I eventually plead "no contest" to the charges because I should have been more aware of the different season dates. I never got out of my truck and was asked by the warden to pose with my bow for pictures, that were later to be used to collaborate his story that he witnessed and photographed me in the field with my bow and arrows in pursuit of game. I should have just fought it but I was scared that I might lose my hunting and fishing rights for 5 years, and I had an archery unit 1 bull tag in hand. Now when I apply for a job, Even volunteer to coach little league baseball, I have this thing following me around - Guilty of "Taking Game in a Closed Area". I never took any game, pursued any game not even got out of my truck. I'm one of those guys who hates poachers and follows the letter of the law when hunting and fishing - my hooks are barbless, I'm a firm believer and catch and release, I don't even have any speeding tickets. So now I have this thing that is going to plague me and paint this picture that I'm some kind of poacher. Is there any legal way to present the facts and show that this agreement was done out of expediency and clear myself? I never took an animal in a closed unit, I never pursued an animal in a closed unit, But I'm considered guilty of taking game in a closed unit like some poacher.

Can you fight a prior conviction?

Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate all the advice you have given. I'm going to start with a letter to the judge - maybe talk to a lawyer. This was a long time ago and I thought it was water under the bridge. I shouldn't have been there plain and simple. And I've regretted not fighting it harder since it happened. I hoped the court would toss it based on the facts, but they didn't. Knowing my luck, or lack thereof, I didn't want to take the chance. I should have fought it harder - I know that now. A couple of days ago, after submitting a volunteer application to coach little league I got this response basically saying I'm a poacher. So yeah, it does show up on background checks. If there is one funny side-note to all this, I also turn up by name as three different registered sex offenders in various states I've never lived in or have ever visited, all with ethnicities and physical characteristics that could never be confused with me. i.e. I'm a 350 black man who lives in Virginia. Can't a man of color get a break around here? LOL. Life is strange for sure.

Can you fight a prior conviction?

Honestly, Brad, it's not typical of G&F at all in my opinion. I've had very few encounters with AZ G&F over decades of hunting and fishing. Those few have been very supportive. I spent one morning picking up beer cans with a unit manager who was trying her best to keep access open to an area that was being mistreated. I'm old by most standards, middle 40's - been hunting and fishing all portions of this state since I was a kid. Every time I fish on the rez, I have the appropriate permits. Every time I hunt or fish anywhere in this state I do it legally, with knowledge of the laws and regulations. Prior to this situation and in the years that have passed, I've never violated a single game law. In this case, it was a simple lack of awareness, to which I have taken 100% responsibility. But to be labeled a poacher or game thief is just something that isn't me.

    Unit 27 youth turkey

Nice job. You did a great job adapting to them. In my experience, that is absolutely key. Call, listen, adapt. The two of my boys still eligible for the youth hunt did well in 27 this year. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/57196-youth-turkey-2-fer/

    Best Antelope decoys?

Well, it may not be the best, but has to be the funniest I ever heard. A guy I know whose sense of humor cannot be understated, is one of those guys who likes to hunt, but is really an amazing chef, and more about the experience than the kill was on an antelope hunt with his father a few years back and they made a giant, black cow disguise with one of them as the front legs, holding up the head portion and the other in the back with a bow acting as the back legs. The story of stalking up on goats in their tandem "be-the-cow" decoy is the stuff of legends. They had both "had a couple" as they approached a herd of goats, and incorporated squirting from a water bladder and various ad-lib sounds. Unfortunately unless you hear it next to the campfire with all the shenanigans, it can't be fully appreciated.

    Lbs

These guys really hike their butt off. I've got a salt lick 2 miles from the nearest road and I have pictures of bulls dropping their horns next to it, and within 2 days a guy shows up and picks them up. Kudos to him, I picked up 5 sheds there a couple years ago - found nothing this year because he found the spot. Hard work, boot leather, get there first. The guys on quads gridding an area out do strike a nerve with me, but those on foot have my respect.

What happened to all the fish at Lees Ferry

Great fishery, but it isn't like the old days, for sure. The way they manage the water isn't conducive to creating pools where minnows and leaches and all the food sources that used to grow huge trout have changed things a lot. The fish are long and weak because they are literally starving.

Clean vs. Dirty vs. Cold bore

I'm certainly no expert on this topic, but it's something I've read a lot about and the previous posts seem to validate. There has always been a debate about how much and how often to clean the bore, fouling shots, etc. Accuracy depends a lot on replicating everything from grip, alignment, trigger pull - all things constant - right? Any barrel has microscopic imperfections. Copper, being soft and pliable fills gaps and rounds hard edges making the bore smoother. The more imperfect the barrel, the more consistent it becomes with fouling. - to a point. I'm in the camp of get it shooting, and don't scrub the bore before a hunt.
