.30-06 vs .270 vs .308: What do you like and why
Elkhunter1 replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Coach I hate to tell you the Springfield you talk about is the O3-A3 and M1 Garand, both are in the 30/06 caliber. My dad has both, he shoots a 130grn sierra soft point at about 3150fps.... He has killed coues, elk and all game in between. That round was used by our military in two world wars, Korea, and by our special forces still today. That round has a large range of bullit weights. -
Let me ask all of you one question. Do you eat beef? If you answered yes, then you have solved the old time problem of the tuff and smelly Javelina meat. If you clean the animal thoroughly in the field you are on the right track. Back to the question, have you eaten beef? The beef you get at any store has been aged 21days minimum! With that in mind, I take and skin the pig and clean it some more. Let him dripdry then I place him in a new garbage bag "unused." Leave the bag unsealed and place in an old refer set at 34° to 36° for 14 to 18 days. When time is up, you have meat that you can poke your finger through the ham. I make steaks and roasts with it, season and cook as desired. The process for deer is the same except I leave the hide on and the time is extended depending on size. It all comes down to how well you prepare the animal. Have the respect to care for the meat that the animal deserves! When you meet this you will be rewarded with great tasting tablefair.

NOW THIS IS THE POST I WAS ASKING FOR! You have shots of the head, blood trail and the animal. Just need shots of the.entrance and exit wounds. Great post, keep them coming!

Dotshot I feel your pain! You need to look at the mechanics of each expandable you try. Not all are the same. Try one that expands after the initial impact and uses a medium that will easealy break and alow it to expand at the point of impact. Give the Swahcker a shot.

If you are the walking type go behind Kartchner from French Joe's old ranch house to the right at the fork in the road. If you hike north along the fence you will find a road from Kartchner. There is a small pond right off that road. If you go up the road back into the canyon you will find a windmill and tank. That whole canyon looked good two years ago when I was last there. I spotted two bucks on the ridge behind the pond and tons of sign there. Good luck!

I was just westbound on Tanque Verde when this raised silver toyota blew past me with the sticker in the back window right side. I just had to catch up to him.
-
Bradley, Good luck, maybe you'll find that 4x4 that eluded both of us in Jan. If you don't find him where you saw him in Jan. try going to the windmill I told you about and then head up the trail under the huge juniper tree. As you top the ridge he was on the ridge to your right when I encountered him. Good luck Stephen! Can't wait for photos and the story! Heading out to that other spot we've been talking about...will let you know how it goes. Bradley

Last Tuesday I went up on the hill to retrieve my cam. The cam only had a few pics on it. Very discouraged with no bucks on film I started the long hike up and out of the canyon. As I got about 200yrds from the parking lot I could smell deer. Thinking it was the does I had always seen I kept walking, only to discover it was infact a buck, a small one but one never-the-less a buck. After watching him a minute another, bigger buck a-rose and started feeding. Another five minutes goes by and all-of-a-sudden the MACKDADDY walked out of the brush and stood and stared at me, 45yrds away. He watched as I practiced drawing my invisable bow and invisioning the "mistical flight of the arrow," as it sank deep into his chest. NOW I KNOW WHERE I WILL SPEND MY THREE DAYS!

I missed my chance at a good 4x4 during the January hunt. I paralleled him as he walked down this ridge one late January morning. Trying to avoid him spotting me I kept behind the the ridge I was on and tried to guess where he would cross over as he was angling down the ridge towards mine. I slowly worked my way ahead of him and peered over the top, as I was relocating his position I noticed movement to my right, he was crossing the ridge 70 yards behind me. As I tried to turn to get into position for a hastened shot he sensed something was wrong and galloped over and out of sight never to be seen again. AND I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN HIM! These shots are what is out there! Waite! He ain't no muley! What do you think he will score? When is the season on them anyway?

Your statement screams ignorance as there is hundreds of pics of all kinds of animals at water holes posted in the trail cam forum. As to the rest of your statement, "I DON'T HAVE ANY WORDS TO SAY."

Smart Predators! Right to the point one of us shoots him at the water hole!

Here is the good ones! This last one is from last week! I can't decide which one to go after, can you help?

Have you paper tuned your bow? Place a sheet of newspaper stretched out on a frame about three feet in front of your target and stand back about 10 ft and shoot through the paper. If you arrow makes a small hole it is tuned, if you tear the paper it is not and you should take it to a good shop and have it adjusted. Depending on the angle of the tear you might have to adjust you nocking point or your rest.
