  1. GJMauro12 -So If the money goes back to the Department then where does the politics come into play? See my post above about Action #2
  2. QCwtAddict - Great question, run it by the Conserve and Protect folks, I am not sure.
  3. This is how I understand the proposal to lay out. It is basically a dual action approach. Please direct your questions about the Conserve and Protect plan to the info email they have provided. But this comes from our meeting on Wednesday night. Action 1 - Raise money to educate the public on the importance of Wildlife Management. This is where the potential use of tag raffles and auctions come in. The funds from the Tags would be used for this cause. The money would not be held within Conserve and Protect rather it would be similar to the HPC process. Action 2 - Build resources within Conserve and Protect to fight . Have a group in place that is able to do the things needed that critter groups such as ours cannot do. ADBSS is concerned about Sheep, AES is concerned about Elk, ADA is concerned about deer.... critter groups are not able to fight the "HSUS" type pf political fights, neither is AZGFD.
  4. The way the HPC system works is; the critter group(s )never take possession of the tag. The group auctions the rights to the tag at chosen event. The group collects the money from the individual that buys the tag then sends a check for the exact same amount to the G&F. The tag is then sent to the individual. As I understand the current proposal, it would work the same way but the money would not go to the HPC fund but instead to the Education fund. The way it was explained to me your 2nd option is correct
  5. It's not a bullshit answer. Pete and Jim talked about the legislative/political strategy on Wednesday at our meeting. I don't have any background in that stuff. Perhaps you do? I'm just saying instead of offering a donation of money once the plan is in place, perhaps donate time to help with the plan itself.
  6. Great idea, come get involved and help make it happen.
  7. None of this is easy/easier. I was just pointing out that moving tag revenue from the current auction tags to the proposed education program would be taking it from habitat and moving it to education. I am not sure on the legislative requirements on any of the proposed ideas.
  8. you can go to guidestar.org and download their Non profit 990 forms. Side note. I am not a member of any Hunting organization other than SCI. That does not mean I do not do things that help promote hunting in AZ. Last year alone I took three people hunting that have never hunted. I took a couple of wounded warriors antelope archery antelope hunting and I will always go into the most liberal non hunting place and tell them the benefits of hunting to wildlife and free range meat. From the SCI 990 Total Revenue $15,837,944 Local Grants $2,793,656 Foreign Grants $194,313 Officers compensation $795,264 Other compensation $3,793,656 They spent more in wages and compensation than they gave in grants..... Not trying to be a jerk but at least have some facts before we throw stones
  9. you can go to guidestar.org and download their Non profit 990 forms. I just did.... Here's the info from 2016 990 Total revenue $169,818 Totals Grants $145,430 Management costs $5,154 Advertising expense $11,435 Get your facts right, facts don't have feelings
  10. Response to Flatlander..... Here are a few examples: Gear manufacturers can create a line of products that target raising additional funds dedicated to the cause. The same way that anything in pink raises money for cancer, anything branded this way from any manufacturer contributes dollars to the cause. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen A raffle of gear, services and properties can be used. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen Mexico tags can be raffled/auctioned. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen A dedicated hunter program requiring time/financial support can be established that provides a bonus point. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen Any or all of the existing organizations could contribute a portion of the funds they already raise specifically to the cause of fighting these issues. Already happened/happening but there are IRS restrictions on how much a 501c3 can contribute to this type of stuff.. Protect and conserve could do the exact same things that AES, ABA, ADA, ADBSS, RMEF, SCI, etc already do (raffles, expo, volunteer service, membership) and dedicate the funds to fighting the good fight. They are planning to, they haven't had a fundraiser yet. Any or all of the aforementioned organizations could hold an event called EFF the HSUS every year and raise money. It could be an expo similar to ISE except it doesnt suck. Add banquets and dinner and it would raise lots and lots of money. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen Hold a bow shoot. Rifle shoot. Pellet gun shoot. Turkey shoot. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen Develop a national hunting and fishing lobby with the participation of national industry, organizations, citizens and partner with wildlife magament organizations. Good Idea, get involved and help make it happen

  12. Completely false information. They bring in around $15,000 per month in revenue from license plates. $15,000 x 12 = 180,000 Here is the list of grants they funded in 2017. Approved in 2017 – $170,665 http://azsfwc.org/license-plate-fund-projects/ This misinformation is bad for all of us....
  13. If Pete or someone from C&P would have suggested this they would have been thrown in the fire. All the money that is generated from these tags go directly to the HPC funds, non of the money stays inside the individual organizations. What you are saying is take money from habitat and move it to education.

    New SFW Tag Grab Initiative

What exactly does that mean? I truly don't know the background on the Utah system and I am hearing that it is bad but I am not hearing any facts. For example, are there less tags available now then there was before Utah started the tags sales? Are there more predators? Have tag cost gone up making it not affordable for everyday hunters? Any honest input is appreciated. Would prefer facts, not feelings....
  15. bonecollector777 - Our monthly meetings are on the calendar for the next 12 months and have been for the last 12 months. go to adbss.org I do not know when the next conserve and protect meeting will be. One extra person showed up last night, simple fact.... Raffle only is a viable option I would think but I can't speak for C&P.
  16. Here is an update from our meeting last night. I'll give you all a little background and I hope it helps clarify. When we(ADBSS) and other groups learned the HSUS was going to file for the petition to get the cat hunting ban on the ballot we took action. The plan to combat the initiative was developed by the group of folks that are now on the board of Conserve and Protect. Conserve and Protect was not even an organization when this all came down the pipe many months ago, it was simply a group of guys from miscellaneous organizations putting together a plan to fight HSUS. We, along with some other groups agreed to help with the financial burden of that initial plan. When we had to take action in order to try and fight, we did, and we won. Conserve and Protect hadn't even been formed, but the guys that developed the plan now sit on the board of C&P. . Make no mistake, the folks that now are on the board of C&P had an instrumental part in fighting and beating HSUS. Moving to today.... Conserve and Protect was just officially(paperwork finalized) started a few weeks, maybe a month ago, not exactly sure. They have now formed their board and are putting together the plan for what's next. They are truly a work in progress and we intend to be engaged in that conversation. They came to our board meeting last night to inform us where they are and what the next step is. Some organizations have financially committed to the next step but we did not feel as a board that we had enough information and the next step is still in the planning stages. We as a board understand the importance of what comes next. We as a collective group of hunters cannot be as unprepared to fight HSUS or other groups as we recently were. We believe HSUS will be back and we need to have a plan already in place. I will only briefly try to articulate the next step. It is basically a two stage approach. Please direct your questions about the Conserve and Protect plan to the info email they have provided. Stage 1 - Raise money to educate the public on the importance of Wildlife Management. This is where the potential use of tag raffles and auctions come in. The funds from the Tags would be used for this cause. The money would not be held within Conserve and Protect rather it would be similar to the HPC process. Stage 2 - Build resources within Conserve and Protect to fight . If you do not know how the plan came together to defeat HSUS, I challenge that you are not involved enough. Only one person showed up last night that doesn't attend the meetings regularly. Call me with any questions or comments, I hope this information is helpful. Andy St John ADBSS President 602-881-0610
  17. Great question - HSUS was using a political avenue, via the ballot initiative process, which keeps AZGFD from getting involved. I was asking that same thing when the whole thing got started.
  18. Conserve and Protect will be at the Sheep Society meeting tonight to discuss the details and bring the Board of Directors up to speed on the goals and objectives of Conserve and Protect. I encourage anyone who is a member of the Sheep Society and would like to learn more to come. The meeting starts at 7:00pm at Embassy Suites, 5001 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale AZ. I am also happy to talk to anyone who needs/wants more info after the meeting. Andy St. John 602-881-0610 ADBSS President
