My 15s are dead sexy. Todd is top notch. -
Since it looks like I will have a November archery tag this year, by mistake, I am wondering who on here has done it. Interested to see how you chose to hunt? Water? Spot and stalk? Drink beer and drive roads? Only thing that is good is the relatively low tag numbers. At least there is that... Pics welcome.

I am currently looking out the window at the Sun Shining on the Hudson River. For all the Nor Easter hype that wasnt much of a storm. I think you guys are out on Long Island where the most accumulation was supposed to drop, maybe you got a bit more. -
First year they started doing them in other units, but 22 and 23 had them back much further. In fact, there wasnt an early archery hunt in 22 for a long time. I think that hunt didnt start until 08.

I guess in his kind a little red ball on a paddle every year for Christmas is better than only having Christmas once a decade. weve had late archery hunts for 30 years? thats news to me. Been one in 22 and 23 as long as I can remember.

Got you one of those discount elk tags did ya? -
We hunted it a few times back when it was a rifle hunt. Like anything else. Get up high and glass country you can see.

An error on the list is definitely a possibility and I would definitely feel better about that than a draw error. But the concern about the leftovers isnt about a handful of medium quality cow tags. Its the shadow it casts on the whole process. Because if they are using the process as they describe it, and the statistical data they provide is accurate, then something is not right. That leads me to ask are they following the process they have prescribed and by statute are required to follow? And are they publishing accurate data? Personally, I believe the data for the most part is accurate. So then what is going on with the process? And is there a QA QC strategy? A few years ago the auditor general for the state did a comprehensive review of the Dept and one of his major recommendations was to provide more checks and balances in the draw. I wonder if that is happening?

I posted this elsewhere. . . Something doesnt smell right on the leftover list this year. Several of those hunts are regularly WAY over-subscribed. 4A Youth - Last year there were 600 applicants for 100 tags. Seems like way more of a shift than is reasonable. But maybe its a misprint and that is a youth Hopi tag. Unit 1 Dec Cow hunts - Last year those hunts were over-subscribed by a combined quantity of 2,900 applicants. This year, each hunt has one leftover. Seems dang unlikely to have a swing in application patterns that big. I am wondering if perhaps there were rejected cards, that also had a second rejected card and no attempt to continue with the next applicant occurred. Also seems statistically improbable that so many cow tags had this occur, particularly in close succession by hunt number. Something here feels like a systemic or algorithmic failure.

Congratulations, you have waited a long time for that. Your brother owes you a steak dinner. Thanks, I had 27 points we averaged 24 together this year . Could be my wife and daughter though with my luck. Single charge of $180 Yep, Suzy and Sarah drew unit 1 Thats not even right. Can you pretend to be someones kid?

It's a little different if you're talking 3c. They split the hunts up this year He is talking about Unit 1 cow tags. Same exact hunts last year had 3k applicants for 600 tags. This year each had 1 extra.
-
No, they dont. When you apply for a leftover tag and are not successful they just send your envelope back return to sender without cashing the check.

What about you TJ, is the streak alive?

Are you non resident? Also several units have two hunts for cow at different times make sure it's not a different hunt. Or you didn't put in for what you thought you did. Sometimes the nr 10% quota gets met and they can't give nr a tag after that even if there are no residents to take it. Something doesnt smell right on the leftover list this year.
