Man, this is a tough crowd. Everybody acts like the guy drew a 4b tag. 80% of hunters I have known with 3a3c tags hunt 3c. But, late in the year 3a holds more elk than the rest of the time. I think on Extreme Bulls 3 they kill a bull that's close to 400" on that hunt. They killed him in the timber. Late hunts are tough, but not impossible.

Haha, what the heck is going on? Is this for real?! -
I don't see why anybody would grill you for that. You obviously aren't hurting or stealing anything. Seem like a good enough guy to me.

Don't look for elk. This time of year will be very different than December. Look for water sources, high points to glass from and learn the general lay of the land. Elk can be high or low in that unit at that time. Find some country that is huntable and figure out how to get your eyes on them.

Whatever happened to Mclendon's strip buck? Did he decide not to strip the velvetor something?

My experience tells me that squeezing both hoochies at the same time is just asking for trouble.
-
Tell you what you need to do. Get yourself two hoochie momma's and a primos terminator bugle. Drive around first thing in the morning and blow that bugle every quarter mile or so, do not get put of the truck. Once you find a bull wait until 30 minutes after light and go after him. Squeeze those hoochies as often as possible. Be sure not to wait too long between calls. If you don't hear anything for a while, bugle a few times and rake some trees. By rake I mean swing limbs like a baseball bat at tree trunks. This method must be pretty effective because I see a lot of guys doing it.

Except that's a 6 point and looks nothing like the 5 point the other guy posted besides a long third. All those 4B bulls blend together.Got way bigger 5 points in 4b. Just no big 6 points. Sorry.Have you tried checking A3's cameras yet? yeah they don't have anything good. Just small bulls so far. Hoping yours have a few bigger ones when you put them out.Me too, but so far all I got was this pic of your mom.

These locals are all butt hurt because Jay Scott blabbed about how his buddies kid smoked a stud in the unit on his podcast.Nah not worried about that. It won't take these guys long to figure out 4b is a tough hunt with top end bulls in the 340's with the occasional 350. Most bulls killed 300 or less. And don't want you lying to these guys about where you're hunting Really? Cause you seemed kind of butt hurt about it before.

Hit up sir royal on this site. He knows what's up. It's not as bad as it seems at first, there is rom to hunt, and just do your homework. You can afford to be picky.

Yeah, they gutted 10 for a few years with 200 archery tags and an astounding 100 early rifle permits. This is the second year in a row with reduced tag numbers, only 100 archery tags and 35 rifle for the early hunts. There are still a bunch of mid and late tags. But overall I think it will start producing again. I also expect that in a couple of years they will probably reduce tags again in 1 and 27 and expect those units to rebound strongly when it happens. They have had increased tag numbers in the fire areas for several years now to reduce the impact of elk on the burned areas and allow the vegetation to recover. Now that it's been five years since the fire, tag numbers should start coming down and they should start allowing the herd numbers to recover. Should.
-
Tag numbers in 10 are going down, just saying. I think people overlook that as an indication of quality potential. Less bulls getting shot = more bulls making it to maturity = higher percentage of quality bulls being taken. To that point, I expect 10 to make a big splash again in the not so distant future.

So which is it, 340 tops or any unit can have a big bull?

This is one of my worst fears. Hearing someone else's story about this is actually what made me decide to always back into my driveway. Prayers for Todd and his family. And thank GOD for Easter Sunday.
