COVID had derailed our hunt. We will be living vicariously through the rest of ya’ll. Please post pics!

I'd stay out of the pines anyway. Find some pile of rocks to climb up on and glass those buggers up. Good luck.

12 Kaibab turkey tags? Daggum.
-
I wonder why they do it this time of year? My first guess is there is some biological reason, but maybe its just when they have time.
-
I deplore Utah’s expo model. But in this case they used a few opportunities to create a bunch of money without impacting tag #’s, making anyone pay extra that didn’t want to, or messing with bonus points. If you are upset by this you are just whining to whine.

Nice work. You’re a better dad guide than I am for sure!

This looks pretty dang cool! I’ve never seen anything about this hunt before but this looks way better than a lot of the other hunts I have seen.
-
Welcome to CWT!

My son has the same hunt. If you see my silver Ford stop and say hi. We can compare notes. My boy is shooting out Magbolt 150 .50 cal smokepole. What are you using?
-
Which week do you have?
-
Maybe… but whether it was 6 tags, or 10 or 20 or 100 they would likely get the same number of applications. So there isn’t a great incentive to issue more.
-
Question for you, were you trying to take that pic or did you mean to take video?

6 x $13 x 250000 (or however many hunting licenses they sell per year) = A lot of dang potential revenue. I much prefer this to other things that have been proposed over the years.

Ah, did I strike a nerve with you Dave?

Buy or make 100 - 200 decoys, then watch the cranes for weeks to see where they are feeding and put your cranes out accordingly. No need for a guide, just time and money.

Agree. But we need to know what the NR impact on harvest is. We need the data, because I highly suspect that the NR contribution to the overall harvest far exceeds the % permits sold.
-
I totally agree. The mission here was always to start by stopping the dept’s advertising campaign. I felt this was a reasonable request that most people could get behind. We need to couple this with a change in the structure for NR archery deer in this state.

I emailed the petition along with a letter to Director Gray, Amber Munig and all of the commissioners this week. I also sent that same letter to Randy. His response to that communication was where he told me he had withdrawn from the contract. I am anxiously awaiting a response from the department. So far, I haven’t heard anything.

I don’t feel I villanized Randy in this. I tagged him in all of my posts. I also sent him the letter I sent to the commission and department. But I do think he needs to be accountable for the outcomes of his efforts. In this case I think there is a clear correlation between his promotions and resident otc opportunity.

I wanted to provide an update here… today I was informed by Randy Newberg that he has withdrawn from his contract with AZGFD. This is a tremendous accomplishment by the hunters of Arizona. I know that in recent years it’s been said that it doesn’t matter how much we speak up that no one listens. Well now that has changed. Thanks to everyone who spoke up!

Except for any elk, antlerless elk, antlerless deer and javelina.

Wow, great photography. Good job catching a once-in-a-lifetime moment!

He's currently on a Montana Mt Goat hunt. Ironically he drew both moose and goat in his home state. Rinella also drew a goat tag. Looks like AZ isn't the only state kissing the social media ring.

Its about the same in that most of the threats are imagined. Lots of dudes freak themselves out walking through the woods in the dark. Some do the same in the city. I haven't been to a lot of cities, but I have spent all times of day and night on the streets of NYC. A weak minded person might imagine up all manner of threats, much the same as a guys do in the desert or woods. I'd be willing to bet that the root cause for both is the same. People fear what is unfamiliar.

In terms of how scary... yeah its about the same. Neither is a big deal. You ever been?
