this weekend my wife (who is a hobbit) will have the trifecta going. A Caldwell bipod with short legs for prone shots, the triclawps available if she needs to sit or stand and I carry the shooting sticks in my pack at all times for rush situations. With kids and other new hunters I have learned to be prepared. Two years ago on her cow hunt we had elk at 118 yds first thing opening morning but when she went to sit down to shoot from the sticks she couldn't see over the grass. By the time she got set up the elk were gone. Lesson learned. This year we will have the tripod ready to slam down for that situation.

The wife shot 200 yd metal from a standing position on her first shot last week. These are the best rests around.

Coues With Big Heavy Bullets
Flatlander replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Didn't you guys hear him, he asked about BIG HEAVY bullets. I am shooting a 120 gr SST out of the 7mm-08 this year. I will let you know how that works. That should answer the question. -
Great story! Congrats on a fantastic accomplishment.

Thanks guys. It was a thrill to share it with all of you along the way. And once I got out on the field, it felt like many of you were there with us waiting to hear about every day.

Southwest has their trailer in Ckint's Well. With these warm temps, be careful trying to transport meat. Southwest has always done well for me, and I used to work there so I know how they work when no one is looking. Mike is a solid guy.

Those are my old stomping grounds. Do yourself a huge favor when you get there and head straight to Reed's Dairy for a double scoop of huckleberry ice cream in a fresh waffle cone, best ice cream I've ever had, ANYWHERE!. If I lived there I'd weigh at least another 50 pounds thanks to their AMAZING ice cream. Was there last week, but I prefer the black cherry. I still have some manwaring squeaky cheese in the fridge. I miss the South Fork. And the Henry's fork. And the Middle Fork. And pretty much everything else about that place, EXCEPT minus 20 temps.
