    Crazy elk hunting stories

I have three children, and thank God they are healthy. I meant nothing derogatory about your son. I too have flung lots of lead in the heat of the moment, some when I was young, and some when I was a little older. I think the Triclawps is a great innovation to help with young and/or new hunters, I wish they were around when I was a kid. That's it, no criticism intended. I enjoyed the story, thanks for sharing.

This is exactly the reason they invented the "Triclawps"

    Wyoming Antelope Application Process

Ok - beware, here comes the zombie thread (Maybe it should be pinned). So I am reviewing the NR Special PP Draw Report and it looks to me like last year in the special draw with 4 pts you could draw any tag. Am I reading this correctly? https://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/Departments/Hunting/pdfs/DRAW_ANT_PP_NONRESSP_20140005880.pdf

Surprise, surprise! Haven't you had a tag every year for the past 30 years? Why do you even bother checking?

    Monday Check in

A couple weeks ago I dropped under 200 for the first time since college. Saturday I stepped on the scale at the gym and saw something I had honestly given up on ever achieving again 188.5 lbs. the first time I have been under 190 since I got married 9-1/2 yrs ago.

Anyone win anything good @ AES last night

Picked up a Triclawps in the silent auction for $50. I was second bidder on the elk tag. $235k is more than my second mortgage would cover.

    How do you know

If you applied electronically the CC you used to apply may show a charge from AZGFD now. All antelope hunts, and almost all elk hunts can only be drawn as a 1st or 2nd choice on your application. So if you have a charge on your credit card for either $135 or $90 you Basically know that you have drawn one of two hunts at most.

    Card Hit

This will last a while. And there is not any rhyme or reason as to how they hit cards from what I have been able to gather over the years. Antelope tags, bull tags, cow tags they all start showing up at once and with last names from a-z. Don't lose hope, I won't be.

The wife and SIL have some cow tags. Still waiting on an archery bull tag for me and a buddy.

Atleast now we can watch our brackets go down in flames instead of checking out bank accounts every 10 minutes
  24. The success in dec/jan would be much higher, and therefore removing 100 tags in Oct/Nov would translate to around 50 tags in Dec/Jan. This means less "Opportunity" (and revenue and everything else that goes with it). It can be done, it just doesn't translate 1:1.
  25. I would be THRILLED if they cut maybe 100 of the 875 unit 7 rifle mule deer tags to make way for December archery. According to reported success that would mean 20 fewer bucks would be harvested on the rifle hunt, and only a fraction of that number would be harvested by bow hunters. So tell me again, who loses in this situation? I mean other than the guy who chooses to go hunt deer with his bow in sub freezing temps?
