I have heard bulls squeal and "bugle" year round when in big herds. Its their way of communicating with the other elk just like a cow mews. The biggest herd of elk I have ever seen in AZ was in 22N during June 1998. There were hundreds of elk and the cow calls and squeals were so loud you almost couldn't hear another person talk. As far as the bull being hard horned, could it be an old bull that isn't producing enough testosterone to cause him to shed? Never heard of an elk with "Low T", but hey it could happen.

I can't find anything on inciweb. Hopefully it stays small.

GBA - My buddy runs Desert Archery in Holbrook and they are Bowtech/Diamond dealers. He also recommended the Infinite Edge but wasn't sure that my boys would be quite ready to handle it. Maybe I will have him set one up and let them try it. Thanks for the suggestion. We still need to go hit up that wilderness spot we discussed a while back. I will shoot you a PM.

Forest closed this morning-rather stealthily done

The residents of AZ have demonstrated through past experience that they cannot be trusted in dry forests. I love the Sitgreaves enough to live without it for a few weeks. Sucks for guys who may have cameras in there. -
I don't think its that impressive that more kids graduated from UA than from Stanford. Pretty sure I could have gotten enough D's at Nogales Tech to get a Liberal Arts Degree. Not so simple at Stanford.

They must be too busy studying to look at the playbook. 41-34

Sweet hunting rig. Won't last long at that price. I wish I had a reason to snatch it up. -

When dealing with residency you must be a resident at the time you apply for the tag, so his uncle would have to wait until he met the requirements before purchasing a permit. Last year there were over 100 leftover tags in that unit, but I do not know exactly when they sold out. They post an updated list of leftovers regularly during the first come first serve period, so you can just keep an eye on it and if it gets close to selling out just go down and grab a tag. -
True, but I didn't learn to drive in a Model T either

My buddy has an archery shop in Holbrook and deals Bowtech and Matthews. He is 6'2" so not particularly small, that is his bow of choice from either manufacturer.

This looks like a blast. Is anybody on here participating? -
Unless he drew his 3rd, 4th or 5th choice hunt. Correct. Perhaps that is what happened I guess he didn't clarify.
-
I always put a leftover hunt as my 3rd choice. I pretty much have resolved myself to hunting coues in october every year. Its a good resolution to have. I love it.

Possible data entry error ? I have heard of this a few times, and the only explanation I can come up with is a data entry error. In this case no harm, no foul since you could just pick up a leftover if you still wanted the hunt. However in other scenarios I could see where you may have a case in protesting to AZGFD and getting them to give you a tag.

One point.

Scum bag. Don't care where he is from or who he played for.

Good info Marvin. These are the complexities of the sheep draw that are often overlooked, and unfortunately many applications are dead in the water before the 1-2 pass even hits. I came up with 6 hunts last year that capped out in the bonus pass. When it comes to sheep you have to take every advantage you can.
-
Here is how bonus points work for a group app: The total bonus points for each applicant is added up and the total is divided by the number of applicants. Therefore if one applicant has 1 bonus point from hunter's ed, and no other bonus points and the other has 0 bonus points then the total bonus points for the application is 1, and that is divided by the number of applicants, in this case two. There fore 1/2 = .5, which is rounded up to 1. So effectively each applicant has 1 bonus point.

That's encouraging! Maybe one day it will happen! Yes, maybe one day in the next 30-40 years you may reach the max point pool. In the meantime, keep applying every year, you can't afford to take years off when it comes to the sheep game.
