Make the most of that tag!

Solid humble brag right there… Well played.

Good luck Stan. I can’t wait to hear the stories. We will be elk hunting next week but not bulls. My son Nash has his first elk hunt, a muzzleloader cow tag. It will be interesting, but at least it doesn’t appear that it will be frigid.

Looks like you guys won’t be messing around. Good luck on an adventure!

Cool trip. Sounds like more of a butchering trip with a splash of moose hunting.

I don’t think you know how their budget works. They don’t get any money from raffle or auction tags. Every penny of that goes to the critter groups.

My kennetreks had heel slip issues until they were well broken in. I loosened up the lowers/toe box and used a locking knot just above the eyelets before the quick laces to help lock that down and then laced the uppers pretty snug. Once they broke in they were great.

Dang, I thought that buck had small back forks. Glad no one is asking me to field judge their bucks.

Everyone knows you are always running in 4B.

Go get em!

How far? -
Bummer you weren’t able to pull it off. I have had good luck reaching out to landowners ahead of time, hopefully that works out for you. Another tip I like is to hunt a week or two after the opener. The pressure drops dramatically when you go later in the season. Congrats on great memories made with your boy and a new experience for both of you.

Congrats on a job well done!

Apparently the OP does.

I know a few people with several 150” bucks they think are 180.
-
But probably over a hundred 170 bucks taken this year in the west.

The chart begins at zero, so the number of bonus points does not include the application. An application with 0 points is counted in the zero pool and each pool only reflects the additional opportunity afforded by the accumulated points.

Mule deer in October > Coues in October Archery Mule deer in January < Archery Coues in January Killing a big desert muley outside of the rut is one of the hardest things to do in western hunting. Back to the question… I’d shoot the coues.
-
No one mistakes me for a slayer of anything except cookies, but… Rutting muleys aren’t that tough to find, although they are hard to kill with a bow. That being said, I’d say more muleys are killed in December/January than coues, and especially big bucks. Archery hunting coues over water in August, totally different story. But if they offered December mule deer tags in the quantity that they do coues, there wouldn’t be any mature bucks left.

We camped right where the 22 Road turns from pavement to gravel. There is cell service there and we could hotspot so the kids could do school work at night. When there was fresh snow we were in a spot where we could get out easily if needed. We typically drove 30 minutes to our hunting spots in the morning. It’s nice to be able to get up and hunt right from camp, but knowing we wouldn’t be stuck provided a lot of peace of mind.

Real things being discussed at the diner counter in JL right now (tomorrow is the last day of the 12AE muzzy hunt): - How over-hyped the Kaibab has gotten - Kuiu vs Sitka - Which road to drive in the morning - Why the guy across from us bailed on his NM 16 bull hunt after 2 days because it was “terrible” - How life changing it was once his wife started applying for hunts also - Whether they should have killed the forky they saw opening day - GoHunt insider - How “name your favorite discount brand” is basically the same as Swarovski without the cost - A slew of reasons one hunter shot a 20” 3 pt

It’s ok as long as you are comfortable leaving it till spring if you get a big snow dump
