Thom - Don't be coy, we all recognize that UA is a better team. I also recognize that they are OVER-RATED. I will bet you they finish outside the top 5.

Outcome of the Game & Fish meeting today????
Flatlander replied to AZLance's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The problem Game and Fish would never know if hunters supported it or not, because they didn't bother to ask outside of a formality required by their legislation. No survey, no request for input, no research. Just a handful of guys limited to 3 minutes each while the commission ate its lunch prior to passing their pre-determined unanimous vote. ID allows baiting for some species. I used to live there and have a life time license. Any time that we can get a small portion of our tax dollars back from the black hole (feds) then that is a good thing. Be careful, those Fed $ come with some major strings attached ie Mexican Wolf Recovery Program Above all guys lets remember that we are all hunters here. If we don't support each other then we can kiss all of our opportunities goodbye. Guns, tags, forests there are people out there who want to take all of it. We have got to find a way not to kick the chair out from under each other all the time. -
Outcome of the Game & Fish meeting today????

It seems to me at the root of problems like this is a lack of accountability by the commission. There are no consequences for dancing all over the rights of hunters in this state. I have been outspoken in my support of G&F as I think they have a difficult job and sportsman have nearly impossible expectations. That said, there is absolutely no excuse for the disrespect they showed to sportsman on this topic. Ridiculous. -
+1 on having someone else man the glass while you make your stalk. This drives the probabiility of success WAY up and will help save you from stalking deer that have moved on while you are putting the sneak on. Good luck.

Great job Felicia and crew.

CARMEN MOUNTAIN WHITETAILS
Flatlander replied to ALPINESKULLWORKS's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Awesome deer be it Coues, Carmen, Carolinan or Cambodian. That is a cool buck. -
3 games into PAC-12 play and the Wildrats should be 1-2.

My buddy glassed one up last weekend. I have never been so excited to go looking for stink pigs as I am for this weekend.

If you are looking for delusional look at all the posts UA fans made in September. Good luck with your rebuilding year and BJ Denker as your QB. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I don't see this as a bad hand. After that stretch they will close with a MUCH easier schedule. Wisconsin is a winnable game, @ Stanford is probably a loss, USC w/o Barkley is probably not even as good as this year, and ND never looked unbeatable despite going 12-0. I am excited, if they can survive that stretch with just 1 loss, the table is set for a great year.

This is the part of the argument I disagree with. I have hunted antler restriction units and what I saw was actually the opposite. In this case the mandated harvest of 4 point mule deer encouraged bad genetics and created a lower "trophy quality" among surviving bucks. What would benefit AZ's game from this restriction is the overall lower harvest. Less animals harvested = more animals growing to maturity. Specifically regarding coues deer I see a practical problem. Whitetail antlers are small and many of the tines are barely more than an inch long. I do not own a pair of Kowa's. I do own 15's but I cannot honestly say that I can see every little tine on every buck, and my hunting style is predominantly glassing. I know a lot of guys who still like to "Bust Brush" or try to jump deer and even others who glass but do not own 15's. I see it as an added burden on these guys to either change their hunting style or upgrade their gear. Hunting is expensive already and not everyone spends $1000+ on optics, $1000+ on long range rifles, etc. For those guys, requiring them to count every point before shooting would do two things, decrease their odds of success and increase the number of accidental game violations. I am not a supporter for this restriction on any species. One Utah hunt out ranking Arizona's is not a great indicator of the success of this program. If you spend any time in UT forums (which I do being a former resident of that state) you would find the same complaints we have here: All the big bulls are gone, They issue too many tags, etc. Another thing that really benefits UT is that their archery hunts are so early. These hunts are not in the heat of the rut like AZ's. This prevents a lot of big bulls from getting arrows put in them. Lastly UT conducts a general, OTC spike hunt throughout most of the state. Clearly that practice would not benefit AZ, so cherry picking which management practices they use and giving them credit for their increased quality is probably not a wise choice.

I shoot a CRX32 and I love it.

Lots of good returning starters for the Devils next year.

Heard of a few biting the dust off of the Florence Kelvin Hwy and some over by Superior.

If I got the mass measurements correct, then right about 17". Thanks everybody for being good sports. Hopefully after this Saturday I will be able to post some pics of a real archery kill.

Surprise building in Quartzsite area
Flatlander replied to bonuspointjohn's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Ahh yes the d*** in the desert. We bid on building that thing. What a giant piece of crap that will never pencil out. -
Stud buck! Congrats on a great archery kill.
-
That mount is awesome.
-
I recognize those grassy/rocky hills! Great bucks, I hope you can get an arrow in one.

Or simply put the arrow back into its spot when it is done. Did that on my face-shot bear and it is pretty interesting to look at with a 5 inch shaft sticking out where the bear whacked it off. 5" shaft, Bear whacked it off . . . Oh boy not sure just how far to take this. I will just leave it at that. But hey I have seen some cool boiled skulls with broadhead holes in them, but never a bear. Kidso you got a set of brass ones for sure.

It was awesome to see this deer tonight. We have some great guessers on this sight. Thanks again for bringing it over Kevin.

I just talked to the guys at badlands custom taxidermy and they had a few available. They are members on here, you could send them a pm.

I sure do remember my first kiss, I am pretty sure that buck has less hair on its face than the girl I planted that one on. Fortunately I got choosier with age. Congrats on an awesome archery trophy.

I am not going to have any vacation time for this trip in 2013. If anyone is interested in 2014 I will have 2 points for that draw and would be looking for a 100% draw unit with the option of picking up extra doe tags. Probably looking at something in the SW corner of WY.
