Agree 100%. I was just noting that the solutions that can be employed must align with the current guidelines and that we should also be aware that a new guideline process will be starting probably next year.

AZGFD is one of the VERY few agencies that does surveys and adjusts tag allocations every year (or every other year now). This is a huge undertaking and is extremely active management for western big game. We are pretty fortunate that our management agency puts forth this kind of effort into developing tag numbers. Keep in mind, you can voice your opinion as much as you want right now, but these adjustments all align with the hunt guidelines which are established every five years. Although they are taking comments, they are limited in what they have to do based on those guidelines and will not work outside of them. I believe the current guidelines were established in 2018. So in 2 years there will be a public comment period on new guidelines which is where most of the changes being suggested here and elsewhere would need to occur. https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/guidelines/

Yeah from that pic I couldn’t tell you if that bull was 449 or 349. I am surprised we haven’t heard more about this. Also, this article doesn’t bode well for AZ as it doesn’t seem to support the theory that trail cams don’t help kill elk.

Definitely is. Especially for that hunt. Leftovers are conducted differently, they look at all your choices before moving to the next app.

Would you want to come and referee this train wreck? Its unfortunate that we could run someone into the ground so hard over football picks that he doesn’t bother to share his experiences with us. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if this is a hunting website or a frat party. On an up note, 308nut posted recently, a name we haven’t seen in a long time. Hopefully with some tags in hand and turkey season approaching we can see more hunting, scouting and conservation content.

At current rates 2 boxes of Tul Ammo and 3 slugs is probably about right. But it is a Honda, and those early years are hard to find. Might have to sweeten the pot with a box of 9mm.

It’s pretty dang apparent to me that they had some significant issues, fixed as much as they could without missing any published deadlines and then ramrodded the whole thing through at the last possible moment to still make the leftover deadline.

It’s definitely a good hunt for 12 pts. It also isn’t really on par with 23N or 23S. But at 12 pts he could chase that hunt for the rest of his life and never draw. With the early dates it will be glassing and sitting water more than chasing bugles. We had the tag last year and we didn’t have any trouble finding bulls, in 3 days the biggest bull we saw was about 330”. But we didn’t scout at all. Definitely be ready once you kill a bull, it will be real warm. It’s not the hunt it was 10-15 years ago but it’s an AZ early rifle bull tag. It’s better than almost any other tag in the country.

What are the dates for the hunt he drew? There are 3 rifle bull hunts in that unit.

Yes, there is a chance just depending on how the draw played out. Either way, great tag. You live out of state now, right? If you want some help let me know, we’d love to pitch in. Been hoping my dad will run into similar luck, it would be cool to see someone play it out.
