Here we go again, another call from AZGFD.
Flatlander replied to muley224's topic in Antelope Hunting
They can reduce tags. And eventually they will have to. All the habitat fund money gets allocated into projects, none of it goes to the department. Game and fish isnât responsible for predator control, so if you want that done grab a foxpro and your .223. I think they could reduce tags more. But I donât think they are as worried about the $4500 in revenue as much as they are about the griping of people with 30+ bonus points whose wait for an antelope tag just doubled. -

Is game and fish responsible for drought, habitat fragmentation and landowner restrictions? We could debate at least half of that. There are a number of factors hurting antelope populations but only a few are controllable by AZGFD. Regardless, the golden age of AZ antelope hunting is near sunset. But hey, opportunity has stayed pretty level. -
Same as the early rifle bull elk hunts there a few years ago. Way too many tags. Theyâve been hunted into the ground. Not just hard to find bucks, hard to find goats.

Count your blessings. Unit 10 is on a bad path.

Diversified Metal Fabrication is in East Mesa. Very good metalwork, they might even have a guy who can do it as a side job.

Great buck, congrats! Thanks for sharing the adventure with us.

Isnât that 2010 storm the one that killed a firefighter when a tree collapsed on his tent while he was sleeping?

Hunter continued his quest to complete his AZ Big 10 last night. We hunted this bull for a couple days. He was a gladiator and kept injuring and running off bigger bulls. We were on him twice before without being able to complete a shot. To his credit he just wouldnât shoot unless he was perfectly steady. When the moment came just before dark he made it count taking out the bulls front shoulder on the first shot. He went 30 yds and piled up. I have to say what an awesome experience from the great friends who made it possible when I couldnât be there to start, and some others who came out to help late last night. You only get so many firsts and this one was awesome. Watching Hunter and his brother fist pump and high five was priceless. There are great lessons to be learned in the outdoors about persistence and strength and effort. So proud that he stuck with it and didnât give up.

Need Glassers in unit 22 tonight & tomorrow morning
Flatlander replied to Big Browns's topic in The Campfire
Is it really dragging someone down when you ask that they be respectful of others posts. If you or Tom want to gripe about team hunting, cool, just make a thread for it. Donât come into the guys post about his nephews hunt and piss on it. Its fine to have a different opinion. Just share it respectfully. -

I donât think anybody has a problem with choosing to hunt that way. What does bug me is when grown men and women feel like they have to poo poo the way someone hunted in a story they chose to share with the whole site, just because it isnât exactly the flavor of hunting they prefer. Imagine if some dude came on here and said how stupid you were for hunting 1:1 with your grandson. What if long range guys came on here and told guys that shoot deer at 200 yds that their way of hunting was inferior or lame or whatever. Why do people find it necessary to come gripe about how someone else chooses to hunt. What if guys who shoot dinks came and bitched about guys shooting bucks that are âtoo bigâ. I just donât get why people feel compelled to come on a site, read someone elseâs story and then complain about it as if it will somehow cause everyone else to have some revelation about the enlightened form of hunting. It would be super cool if people were just like.. âGreat buck, congrats!â- 126 replies

Frustrated newbie seeking advice
Flatlander replied to Calebwalter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Try to stay 400ish yards min away from where you think deer will be. North slopes are where bucks will bed for shade. But donât overlook the yellow grass for just finding deer. Iâve seen deer bed within 200 yds of water. And on the same hunt I have seen deer walk over a mile everyday for water. Stick with it. -
Happy birthday!

Maybe they thought the risk was too high to let it go another year. Definitely seems like there are far fewer prescribed burns this year. If indeed this was a Rx burn this would be the first I have seen or heard of.

If you make it to Mesa with a cooler I got enough to share.

Pretty easy to keep that to yourself. All the dude asked was if anyone wanted to help. You could have simply done nothing and contributed more than being a critical naysayer.
