Conserve and Protect (Tags) Presentation at G&F Mtg

Oh geez, now I really feel like an idiot. Several years back at one of the banquets, they had a raffle for a black Lab pup. My wife really wanted it. So I bought $500 in tickets. If I knew that might negatively paint me as "the hunting elite," I would never have done such a dastardly deed without asking someone's permission on how I can spend my money. I'll know better next time. Oh, I didn't even win the dang raffle. I don't know for sure, but that pup might have gone to a homeless person -- i.e. not one of the "elite"--who could only afford one ticket. I did not say anything negative about the hunting elite. I have spent lots of money at banquets as well. I am all for the model, I just dont support using supply and demand as the model of extracting value from tags as it violates the North American model. I said nothing negative about Cindi or her family, I respect them very much. But Corky and Cindi are far from the regular guys that Red said always win the raffles. -

The auction or raffle of tags, in my evaluation, violates at least two tenants of the NAMWC. 1. That wildlife is allocated by law rather than by market conditions and should not favor persons based on property ownership, socio-economic status or political position. 2. That hunting should be accessible to all. The current HPC and super raffles are a great case study for this proposal. Originally there was just the HPC, then the super raffle was added. There are currently 3 special tags for each species. Where do we draw the line when it comes to special tags for extra money? The answer the line will be wherever we decide to put it, and for me that means right where it is today and not one more tag. You can accuse me of hiding or being misguided, the truth is that I am principled and committed. And without those two traits hunting will ultimately go away regardless of what the HSUS says or does. We will lose our heritage to commercialism and social media. Slowly, one day at a time we will give it away piece by piece, a tag here, a special privilege there until one day it is completely unrecognizable as the heritage we cherished. Then what will we be left with? Some magazines? A professional hunters Instagram feed? Dollars in the bank to save what . . .The rights of the privileged few? No thanks. -

No, I didnt forget it. You said the HPC raffles always go to the normal guys, and that is not true. I dont give 2 squats of bird crap how you administer the tags, I am opposed to using them in the way that has been proposed. Get it through your head I am not debating the particulars of the system, because it is not the particulars I am opposed to, it is the principle. -

Uh, wrong. Dan Agnew won one. Not exactly an Average Joe, and I have witnessed with my own eyes Cindi Richardson buy a raffle at a banquet by just flooding the bucket with her tickets. I didnt have a problem with it, I have a lot of respect for Corky and Cindy, but to say there is no advantage to the hunting elite is false. Let me make this as crystal clear as possible, I BELIEVE PROVIDING ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY AT FINANCIAL PREMIUM IS A PROSTITUTION OF THE NORTH AMERICAN MODEL. We should fight it at every turn. If the goal is to raise as much money as is possible for this program then why does it matter who wins That right there is the issue. The purpose of having tags is not to raise as much money as possible, and never should be. -

No one is arguing that. What we are raising awareness about and calling action against is Petes singular and unwavering resolution to pull tags out for CAPAZ to utilize for fundraising for non-hunter education. No less than 12 other ideas have been proposed by folks outside of CAPAZ, and yet, Pete brought 1 and 1 only to the table at the workshop. Pete is a liar, and we need to standup to him. -

Red, please post the proposal where the numbers of tags (or any other black and white info) has been published. I havent seen anything in writing yet, so all we are able to argue is what Pete said less than 1%. -
Shane talks more, but Jays microphone is about 100x what Kourys is.

This has been my main contention. I brought this up at the meeting at BassPro that Arizona has a finite resource and can't be compared to other states. How do we add more tags without removing tags from the general pool? If simply adding more tags to the pool, how's it going to affect the harvest objectives outlined by G&F? These "new" tags will HAVE to come out of the general pool if we want to meet the current harvest objectives. It appears SOMEONE within the department is willing to say that one or two tags sprinkled in across a bunch of different hunts would not have a biological effect. We need to make the argument on the grounds that this is an attempt to benefit the wealthy and funnel more opportunity to them. Kurt Davis (commissioner) has already made a point of saying that there will be no impact to the opportunity of the general hunting public if this is employed. He wants to argue semantics so we need to be crystal clear what it is we are opposed to. -
Interesting that he regularly rates 3C as a top tier unit but has not hinted the unit since move the rodeo chediski fire. Probably not the guy I would be taking advice from.

Next time you kill something early in the year, throw the carcass in your trash barrel and skip a week of having it emptied. Once it smells like holy death have it emptied. Then the next week switch your barrel with his.

1. Because what was said on the podcast was far far from a written proposal. 2. During the podcast Pete references UT system as a model that can be replicated (as do others). 3. Because what Don Peay and his crowd (which Pete also references as a model) is not what UT ended up with. -
Sorry if this is in the regs, I am looking at them on my phone and cant seem to find the answer. Does AZGFD define centerfire rifles as being a min caliber? Or is it simply defined as having a center primer?

Only if you don't tell me what year, make or model it is. Its more exciting that way. As long as you can assure me that it ran 2 years ago when you moved it outside. -

What to say only counts if you are wearing the goat. -
You are right, the 36A and B hunts are late Nov. That could be a real good option.
-
+1 Or the 36A/B Jr. hunt, which is an 'any antlered deer' tag. Plenty of road hunting opportunities in 36A & 36B where you could come across either a whitetail or a muley on that hunt. S. that would really be sweet. Unfortunately that hunt is in October so he will probably still be in the hospital. We could try for the late hunt there. The late Kaibab doe hunt might be an option, but the first one is too early for him to have recovered.

antelope dont know what a gazelle is You ever see a antelope buck breed a doe? I dont think you want anything to do with that. Knock the hat right off your head.
