ELK HUNTS WITH THE AZ GROUND POUNDERS OUTFITTERS
Flatlander replied to AZ Ground Pounders's topic in AZ Ground Pounders Outfitters Blog
That last bull looks like it is in a BAD spot. Hope you had strong backs and some good pack frames. -
My inbox is getting a little full. I have been working on a way to post my odds spreadsheet online somewhere but do not have a solution yet. For the meantime, if you would like me to check your odds for the antelope, rifle elk, archery or muzzleloader bull, post your bonus point and desired unit here and I will run it for you. I have not completed the rifle cow, archery cow or limited opp hunts yet. I hope to do them this week. Hopefully this will help eliminate some redundancy if people have the same BP and are interested in the same hunt. If you have a specific question beyond odds feel free to PM, but my inbox is getting maxed out so lets keep those to a minimum. Rifle cow is now complete. Ok got all the muzzy hunts done. Everything is available except Jr's (today) and Limited Opp (I have no idea when). Good luck fellas.

Sure doesn't seem so overpriced now does it???

There is plenty of space there. Especially when you realize the concentrations of Lope in those areas. You are going to smoke a brute. Be excited.

This is a sharp dose of realty. Mine are 5 & 4 and they more or less love anything I tell them is cool. I hope I can be as lucky as you when they grow. Looks like a great weekend in the woods.

If you want help PM me. I can tell you where your best shot is.

I always wonder on these threads where are all the guys who posted last fall about lost elk? Seems like from this thread every elk gets hit through both lungs and the arrow ends up 6" into a tree beyond the animal. I personally have lost two elk, both cows, both when I was a teenager (10+) years ago. The first I felt was poor performance of the broad head resultant from my low draw weight (about 60#). The other was bad shot placement, but I still wasn't impressed with the performance of the broad head. I was shooting the predecessor to the Swhacker, the Sonoran, in both instances.

Is this a medalist? Not familiar with medalion. -
Staying classy. Nice move.

You drew in the bonus pass. That's why I always advise folks to be mindful of what their second choice is when they have a few points. Those late rifle hunts don't require a lot of points to draw. I don't have my odds in front of me but I suspect 5 pts would have been knocking on the door of the bonus pass in that unit.

I wonder if one of the 803 antelope tags issued for this state has arrived at my house.

Yes and like big brown said- someone gets lucky He would know.

Man I can't quit coming back to this pick. Nice work in the man cave. I will be hanging this picture up and hoping to make mine look similar.

Who needs an elk tag when you've got this?
Flatlander replied to shanehamblin's topic in The Campfire
That's a game changer. Congratulations and good luck. Those first few days with my little girl were some if the best if my life, even without sleep. -
That's a lot of rifles. Almost a decades worth of the most popular rifle in America. That's gunna leave a mark.

Thanks!

Thanks to the guys who have sent PM's. With only 6 tags on this hunt I am sure I will be able to carve out some space to hunt. Anyone else have this tag this year?

I would avoid pine trees. That should be enough info to get you pointed in the right direction

I killed an elk on that hunt once. I mean, I was a dumb kid who didn't know how to do much other than walk and glass, but it worked out. It did require a scouting trip, where I never got out of the truck. And the hunt wasn't easy, I didn't kill until 9:00 AM. Admittedly, I got lucky, but there are elk there and I would rate it slightly ahead of the OTC hunts and on par with general hunts in most other states. Tough, but do-able.

Nice! I had no idea I was in a competition.
