What would you build, as the perfect coues cartridge ?
rcdinaz replied to Splatt's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I still love my 7mm RM but we are working on a 6.5 as well which should be a little lighter. Stiller Predator action McMillan stock Brux Barrel Jewel Leupold ER/T We have shot it out to 1K and shot game at 560 yds. I have a 7mm Dakota that shoots 180's as fast as the 7mm RM shoots the 168gr but it is on the heavy side. Hit targets at 1,150 with that one and it would be a great caliber if brass were not expensive and sometimes hard to find. It started as a plain old 700 action. I will also add that a great light carry rifle like a 243 Tikka light would be great for humping it through the brush. I had one occasion in Mexico I wished I had that instead of the heavy gun. -
must have sold out, no link on the website...

HA! My grandfather, who lived in AZ for 90 years and recently passed, hunted out of a 2 wheel drive for +40 years. The standing joke was the road was no problem because "Fernando has already been there" and then someone would pipe up and say "If he went there I am not taking my truck". He would drive fairly slow and get places we didn't belong doing his WWII driving. He always told us jeeps were only 2 wheel drive. My dad on the other hand only ever owned 2 trucks that were not 4x4. He taught me the very bad habit of getting committed to roads that turn to $h!t so you could break in your new truck. Still have nightmares about a few of those.

What jp0212 said! I have one as well and it does what it says. The GPS screen is very small so not as useful as it could be is my only complaint. When we were in Mexico it was very valuable since there was no cell signal. You can send a message to your family all is good each day. Subscriptions are always a pain. I make sure I pay in August or Sept knowing I will use it for at least the 6 month hunting season.

Mountain lion was about 20 minutes but it was a young one. I suck at the bobcat stands. We found tracks around us on multiple occasions but never seen a bobcat on a stand. I think I have been to used to seeing the coyotes run around and not been good at looking for a sneaky cat crawling around. The lion was almost in my face so it couldn't be missed.

That was my thought fawn deer and antelope calls and sit for a while. The lion I shot came to a rabbit call and beat the yotes there. I think may have steered clear since there were 2 cats in that river bed.

Not the best way to dispose of anything. Just bury it without the bag would be better.

Check the Robar site as well. This is supposed to be one of the toughest and long lasting coatings and has a lifetime warranty. https://robarguns.com/custom-firearm-finishes/np3/

I got rid of mine years ago, like staring through a knot hole.

Dang! Well done those are bruisers.

I agree with those that said save up and get 12's. I have all three and only use my 12 el's, spotter if I have to.

My 18 points is starting to seem very insignificant!

Yep, Paleo is great for clean eating but if you are real active you will be hard pressed to get enough carbs. There are a lot of sites that are Paleo-ish. Bread with sprouted grains, steel cut oats, rice, small servings of lugumes, basically carbs with a minimum of processing. You can also cycle the carbs around tour activiity level. Bulld a plan and tweek it every 30 days. Also don't stress when you blow, vacation, birthdays, etc.

Nosler long range accubond vs accubonds
rcdinaz replied to lionhunter's topic in Long Range Shooting
5 coues, 2 mulies, 3 Audad, and a bear in the last 3 years. From 250 to 560 yds and 5 different hunters. All with the NLRAB, 7mm, 168gr they seem to be working very well and shoot very accurate. For my 7mm they are the only bullet I load now and see no reason to change. -
Check out the Teryx for sale on the forum right now. I recently bought one off of this site and love it. It is on the heavy side but seats 4 full sized humans. I actually think it is a much better hunting rig than our RZR or Rino were. The one on the site has a ton of extras so it is a great deal!

Finally getting a chance to post some pics from our hunt in S Texas a couple of weeks ago. The hunt was great, pretty warm for a Feb hunt but the animals seemed to like it. We found sheep the very first evening we arrived right out of camp on two different ridges. As with most hunts it started off talking about shooting a giant and as the days went by our expectations became a bit more realistic. I will say the hunt is a lot more difficult than I had thought. The terrain is just like AZ and climbing is slow and often pretty treacherous. Oh and the dang sheep are very, very good at staying about 700-800 yds away or going over the ridge line just as you starts setting up a shot. I will tell you the second day my dad missed a good ram at just under 600yds. I then took a second shot and also cleanly missed. I beat myself up over what went wrong that night and spent an hour going back through the shooter app and the conditions. Turns out the incline was much more than the inclinometer on my rifle showed. When shooting at a VERY steep angle a few degrees makes a big difference in shooting over the target as most of you know. I had entered 20deg and after checking the next day back in the same spot the incline was 26%. Valuable lesson learned and that inclinometer is getting replaced. FYI the one in your phone is very accurate, place the phone on top of the scope cap. So me and a buddy ended up with 2 smaller sheep in the pic. They were a ton of work, our first Aoudad and a memorable trophy. The were both shot at just under 450 yds in the cliffs in the picture and the real accomplishment was making it up and down that crazy mountain! One pic is looking down from the cliffs the other up from the bottom. My dad shot a nice, not giant ram on the last day, actually after we packed up and were starting to head out. He took it at 565yds, one shot near perfect. We found the Nosler ABLR just under the hide on the off shoulder. The ram went about 20 yards and piled up right on its face. If you are jealous of his fine hunting attire it can be found in the stores of 2 of the finest hunting stores known to man Costco and Goodwill. We gave him crap the rest of the day after finding out he was wearing a Goodwill Dback shirt. He pointed out Audad hunting is best done in long white socks which can be had by the dozen at Costco along with cargo shorts. He also pointed out his sheep could take both ours at the same time. (that wasn't really that funny... to me ) So I guess now we are addicted to this hunt, we are already making plans for next year!

Well done! Dang that should be a heck of a fish fry!

Well finally heading out for the first fishing trip. Anyone been to Roosevelt and have any advice I would appreciate it. At some point I plan to head to Windy Hill to see if any buffs are cruising, maybe I can get a few shots with the bow. Any crappie news? I read the bass are working pretty shallow preparing for the spawn. I figure the water is probably pretty dirty with the run off.
