Mearns with the Old Lady
rcdinaz replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Fantastic dog! congratulations on a successful outing. -
No one would put that stock on bad equipment unless they were looking to get beat with it. Nice gun! What part of town are you in? I would take it over to Dave Van Horn if you want info and need someone to go through it. He loves those old mouser actions and can help you get it shooting lights out. My dad still has is mouser action .270 that is about 75 years old and we don't shoot it which he scolded us for not using a great action.

My daughters have been using the Eberlestock X1 for a few years now and it works well. Most of the time there is no rifle in the scabbard but they have used it on occasion and it makes carrying the rifle far easier and safer. I like that one str8shot posted also.

starting point for jump, 7mm rem mag
rcdinaz replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
GreyGhost is right (kind of) here is the link I can't paste the link for some reason... 0.01, 0.05, 0.09, 0.13 were the recommended "hunting" starting points for testing VLD's. The 0.04 was for benchrest where you start with a jammed bullet and the 0.04 and then up. 0.04 increments were the recommended test protocol. Google Berger VLD reloading also search this site for 7mm reloading and there are 2 threads in the reloading section (recent) that have a bunch of input on what other members have had work best in their rifles. -
looks like rutting to me or that big one is studying to be an OBGYN.

New rifle caliber choice? You tell me!
rcdinaz replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Long Range Shooting
Do you have a preference 7mm, .308, .338? The weight of the gun you are willing to deal with and the recoil might be good to consider to narrow things down. 7mm - 7mm RM, 7mm LRM, 7mm WSM 308 - 300RUM, 30-378, 300 WSM, 300 WM 338 - 338 Lapua, 338 RUM For standard calibers you can track down everything easily this would be my starting list. I am sure I missed a couple of other obvious ones. If I am building an elk gun I am building a 338 Lapua. my $.02 -
I had a Rhino but sold it and got a rzr which was recently stolen. I think the Rhino is good for most people and probably the least expensive with a zillion aftermarket and used parts availble. The Ranger is a tougher machine in my opinion and has more room and I was about to buy one recently. We did use the rzr for hunting also and it is great for smaller trails and going fast but clearance is not good and there is not much room. The rzr 4 seems to have a common complaint about the small back seats but a buddy has one and it is really nice ride. I just bought a Teryx from another member and have only driven it one time but I really like it. The thing is a tank and has real seating for 4 adults along with actual doors and a full cage. The clearance seems to be very good, it has some storage, and will tow 1,500 lbs. It is not fast since it weighs something like 1,500lbs but I think they are really worth a look. The Viking and Pioneer look similar to the Teryx and I would test drive them if you can. All have their little advantages, Viking has a little more clearance, Pioneer has cool backseat set up and unique drivetrain. If the Honda is quieter that may be enough to sell me on that alone since all of these SXS are too loud IMO. All that being said you can't beat a quad for one guy getting somewhere quick and cheap. The biggest downside is you can't hide from the sun in AZ on a quad and you can't bring a friend. Good luck and have fun!

Giant screen with much higher resolution, camera, touch screen that actually works really well, ,already carrying your phone anyway, back-up batteries are silly cheap now and weigh very little, syncing to your computer is very easy. I still use a garmin rino sometimes as well as a DeLorme InReach but I keep preaching the use of a mobile phone. There are a ton of apps and so many features that you can't put on a GPS only device. I pair mine with a Garmin Glo which is faster and seems to work better than my other GPS units. It also lasts 2-3 days even with heavy use without recharging and can be charged with a back-up call battery as well. Also the Glo allows me to go from phone to iPad and back with the same software instantly. The iPad is awesome for showing others and zooming in. Backcountry, Topo, Gaia, and a few others are really good but I settled on the Trimble app and paid the $99. You get hunting units, trails roads, BLM, res, etc and you can plan all your hunts on your computer as well as share hunts with others. There is a little bit of a learning curve but it is very easy once you get going.

Is it really $65 per month after $100 initiation? Wow!!!

I got this one too! Guess I am a professional a$$ pad tester, I have tried most of them.

I agree with this and I am an alum... but it makes sense when you are the largest University in the country you are bound to have a lot of morons running around even if it is only small %... you get a couple of hundred jack assess! Besides I remember some great trips to UofA and seeing plenty of idiots down there as well. It is college football so probably not the best place to look for common sense and human decency. Could be worse, could be Mizzou

Cats are good for about one thing only... coyote decoy!

I have a few different pads, that is a good one but I prefer the air ones so I can roll them up and stuff them in the pack. Most of the time I use a walk stool more than anything.

That sucks! Mine was stolen with the rzr and an ATV on it. I have notice it seems to be happening a lot lately based on what I see on this forum and on Facebook.

Try different primers. 308 pointed out neck tension and I have had that happen as well, actually to loose so the bullets ended up being able to move a little. The result was them moving further from the lands on some of the cartridges. This was in my phase of constantly screwing with everything, trimming, chamfering, deburring, neck tension adjustment, meplat uniforming... too much of a good thing!

Any of the lakes in town they all seem to be gettin full! The geese just showed up in our neighborhood a bunch of them this year.

It really seems to work the other way for them and I have been a customer since the day they finally shipped their first orders. Kuiu seems to be one of those brands where part of their success is keeping supply just short of demand. I actually have a few other brands I like as much or more that are a little less costly in general. I will say their pants are the best I have worn and their rain gear is fantastic as well. I was looking at their new boots and the reviews seem to be very mixed. I guess that is pretty common with boots since you can;t make one that fits all foot types well.

Awesome! dang it looks cold!

Some people can glass with a spotter but most feel like their eye is going to explode and get a headache after a few hours.

In theory late afternoon shows some scientific basis for a "best" time. I can't find the article I just read on this I believe it was on the "Precision Nutrition" site. My theory any time you can drag your butt over to a weight rack, go for a run or jump rope is the BEST time. I travel a ton but used to live at the gym and in martial arts training but haven't done jack for the last 2 years. Travel and work will kill a routine and a diet faster than anything. And going back and trying to start over a couple of times a month just makes you sore as heck. I am sneaking up on it now just making sure I get something done every day if I can.

Okay first I am not bragging but over the last 15 years I have accumulated some great glass... I have 8's, 10's, 12's and 15's and the HD spotter all Swaor's but the 8's. Part of the reason is my dad and my daughters all use my glass but I loved the 15's for a VERY long time until I bought the 12 El's. My own opinion is the 12's are the single best pair of bino's and it is not even close. I love the 15's on a tripod but I have never missed a thing that the two guys using 15's are able to find using the 12's. I also agree really good glass is the only way to go with a spotter so save, save, save! If I can carry it you will find me with the big spotter and the 12's and now a tripod that is probably a little bigger than necessary as well. Of course this ain't no backpacking setup for that it would be the 12's and nothing else.
