Yep, I have been on there checking it out. My past with CL has mixed results. 2 good rentals and another that caught fire and lost the transmission. On that one I got screwed and still had to find a hotel room on top of that, spent a lot of money that weekend. Probably should have went to small claims court but with my travel schedule that would have been hard to do

Last month saw a cow wandering around 23S, the end of Cherry Creek maybe a mile from the Salt River. It was hot as could be that day as well.

A couple of guys were looking for a good deal on some low end binos and this would be hard to beat. $72.99 for the Amazon deal of the day, they are marked down well below even the 8x32's. Happy hunting! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B9ZFO8?ref_=gbsl_tit_l-1_4822_9f100f8f&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

The game & fish page has a lot of info on this unit. We hunted the Klondyke area for well over 25 years and there are deer in that unit. Aravaipa and The Mammoth side have deer as well as the mountainous area in the south east corner past Tucson. It really depends on if you are going to make a long trip into the unit and stay awhile. If you are then the Klondyke are has a lot of land to hunt. If you are trying to get in and our fast then the mountains on the Mammoth side are a lot more accessible which means lots of people driving around. Good luck!

Same! On a big fat '05 Avalanche,6" lift and 35's and they have been great and not just highway driving, two years ago we broke both tie rods being dumb. So they get used when we go out.

Nice! The cheap Amazon lights are getting pretty good. We were using them for bow fishing and they worked well.

I wish, I wish, I wish... if I had the room! Beautiful dog! -
Excellent! Great looking rifle I am sure she loves it?

You can but them already fluted from Brux and Hart and many others. You already figured it out though, don't bother... If the barrel shoots good there is not point. I will be trying Phx Customs for my next build as was suggested. They helped me out on a rebarrel, good guys!

I have some made of aluminum tube I bought, let me know if you want me to dig them up and post a pic. I think conduit with 2 pcs ~ 100 deg off a center point is the measurement, those two pcs are at ~90 from each other. You want the legs to lean away from the target so they are as far out of range as possible but still hold the weight. We shot one leg off one weekend, bullets go through rebar like butter. I made some out of aluminum tube which was awesome to carry but got expensive on misses!

This is the pricing from the site but they have some stuff there like the big pig target that are not on the site. They also had squares instead of round. Buy some of these which are really slick as well: http://www.amazon.com/The-Last-Stand-Target/dp/B00JVX4JB8 If you have someone who can weld you can make some out of round tube for cheap as well. Gong Style Targets: 4” Round x 3/8”Thick $10.99 6” Round x 3/8” Thick $15.99 6” Round x 1/2” Thick $23.99 8” Round x 3/8” Thick $21.99 10” Round x 3/8” Thick $35.99 10” Round x 1/2” Thick $46.99 IPSC Style Targets: 18” W x 26” H x 1/2” Thick $111.99

Looking for advice on raising a child into a hunter

My rambling thoughts: I have two girls that are teenagers and they love shooting and hunting. I took them fishing and shooting when they were young and so did grandpa. My oldest goes fishing in the lakes around Chandler on her own or with friends as well as to the archery range. I don't think we did anything special other than make them a part of it by including them. Make them a part of what you do by telling stories, showing them fish or game you have taken and sharing your excitement every chance you get. One of my girls spent a good 20 minutes examining my sheep when I got it home and she was only about 6 years old. She looked in its mouth, and touched almost everything from the ribs to the eyes. My wife started to say oh gross and I stopped her and that kid is afraid of nothing (yes I washed her hands). She catches bugs, lizards, and anything else just like a "boy" and could care less about cleaning fish or anything else for that matter. Both girls will be different and with twins that may be tough since there will be times when you will need to take only one of them, one won't want to go, discipline, other activities and so on but it is okay and sometimes better for one of them to get undivided attention. Besides life ain't fair anyway. Some ideas: - Mine helped clean guns from a very young age, make a big deal out of it let them hold the tools or oil the bolt. Again you can always redo it but mine would get very excited about helping out and they learned a lot. - Take them trout fishing; you usually catch fish and the weather is nice. Let them catch crawdads, throw rocks, and chase the squirrels if they decide it is more fun than fishing on that day. - Exploring, just get them out and make it fun, geocaching, flower picking, picture taking, anything they come up with. - We did a project gun when my oldest was 10. We painted it purple, grey, and black in snake skin pattern. Let them do a little painting, who cares what it looks like, ours turned out well though - If they want to go home YOU have to suck it up and call it a day. I hate this but you can't turn fishing and hunting into torture. - Practice any opportunity you have to; fishing in the pool, casting contests, explain what kind of ducks they are looking at, show them lots of pictures and where each animal should be shot, answer any and all questions you get. - Do a research project with them. Ours was javelina and was actually my daughters idea because of a kids book she had. One word of caution: the teacher gets a little annoyed when your 6 year old starts teaching the class if the subject comes up. It is also frowned upon if she yells "I know about them already, my dad shoots those" I thought it was awesome but my wife told me it was not. - Go to the zoo, mine know I like the desert section better than the other animals and we study the critters and talk about them. Botanical garden is good also. - Bowfishing may be the best kid magnate ever created. It is hunting and fishing, you are constantly moving and you see fish and get to shoot. Every kid I have taken including mine can't wait to go again even if they spend all night missing. When they are old enough to shoot a bow try and get them out if you can. - When you are ready to go hunting practice a lot, dry fire practice may work even better than throwing lead. (of course you need to be extremely careful and establish rules) I have had a few guides tell me they have grown men as clients that can't find the target through the scope. My girls don't even think about it and they have good trigger control and posture. You also can see any potential problems before you hunt. We know which rest works best, which position, which stool if they can't be prone and have time to sit while shooting, and how to shoot off a tripod. I could help them more during at home practice than at the range worrying about all the other distractions. Both girls expect to put the bullet where it belongs and confidence breeds success as you already know. Hunting and fishing is one of those rare activities that we all usually talk to each other as equals while doing even when we are teaching which is why I think kids kind of automatically love being a part of it. Since you already care enough to give it some thought and ask for advice I am sure you will be a successful teacher. -

I built a 6.5x284 on a Rem SA, thought I would be okay with using it as a single shot on the 140g VLD's but I am tired of doing so just on the first load development. So for the 284 I will most likely swap out the SA for a LA. For the short action give me some opinions on which cartridge? I will probably have to drop down to the 120ish grain bullets but could put together a pretty slick mountain rifle. 260Rem, 6.5x47, or Creedmoor seem like they would work, no changes to the bolt face. At first glance I was leaning towards the Creedmoor but want some feedback. It looks like I could still actually load the 140's but probably won't need to for a hiking and packing rifle.

Which 6.5 for a short action?
rcdinaz replied to rcdinaz's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
What barrel contour do you guys prefer? Are most of you using something along the lines of a Sendero taper or similar? Anyone using a lighter taper and having good results? I was looking at Hart & Brux around a #3 which is something along the lines of a medium heavy barrel. 3# on the Brux chart. The advantage of the Hart barrels would be cost and more fluting options if I go fluted. -
Tough to tell but my vote was the 2nd as well.

goatsie good timing I saw this one pop up while doing some reading today. I couldn't find what the COAL would be if I were using the 140's? would this or the WSM cycle in a 700 SA? -
Look for Nosler brass even if you have to order it. It comes fully prepped and will save you a lot of time! http://www.brunoshooters.com/product/12535.html Bruno's in Phx had it in stock and would only be 1-2 days to ship in state. Stainless media can be bought off of Amazon and delivered 1-2 days as well. Free shipping with Prime and it is a one day turn around. http://www.amazon.com/STM-Stainless-Tumbling-Media-Reloading/dp/B00KO9DF9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440043281&sr=8-1&keywords=stainless+media

I heard you are supposed to pee on your leg... oh wait I think that is for jellyfish, never mind! You are pretty much stuck other than a water bottle to mist yourself and one of those cooling towels. I know some guys sit in shorts as well. You could bring a little battery operated fan, I have thought of it but was not sure if they make too much noise or noise critters can hear that we can't.
