  1. Ghillie suit! All that you named are good. Vias is better than Verde in my opinion but all the guys not located in the west kept asking for green in the Kuiu forums. It is really interesting since based on everything I have read ungulates are dichromatic and don't see green. There are a lot of articles on this and a very long discussion on the Kuiu forum. So all the pretty greens are mostly for us hunters, the dark & light contrast to break up the pattern seems to be the most important aspect.

    Used Bow Recommendations?

This! Make sure you know your draw length and go steal one off of AT. Take it down to a good shop and have them help you set it up it will be money well spent.

Toyota Tundra Owners..... Yea or nay

I have a Sequoia and it is a typical Toyota meaning quality is boring it is built so well. Pretty much zero problems, it is a beast of a vehicle and still tows very well. The old nav system and all the goofy safety features that are way overboard on the infotainment system are the only downsides but the updates over the last couple of years are supposed to make it much better. I know they greatly improved the Lexus systems in the last 3 years which are similar. All that being said I must be the only one intrigued by the new Fords which went on a 700lb diet and the guys I know that have them absolutely love the ecoboost engines. Still seems wierd to not have a V8 but the only people I hear bashing the changes are the ones that don't own them. I am waiting for the new Raptor at this point. I was planning to buy a Tundra but I have to agree with those that pointed out that the newest body style moved Toyota from best to worst for styling in my opinion.

Official did NOT get drawn thread

Nothing for me, nothing for the kids, nothing for the wife! looks like lots of fishing and bow fishing...
  5. I hear a lot of mixed reviews on Bergers. I have not had a lot of issues but I shoot the ABLR now mostly. Still trying the Bergers in 6.5 and will use them in 300 RUM. I have talked to a few guides that said basically what you described 50/50 sometimes dead as a doornail and others walking off and not stopping. I really think with that bullet design it has a lot to do with hitting bone or heavy muscle or passing through. If the energy is all dumped in the animal they are awesome.

    Bipod Help

Good info! I have two buddies that use a similar bipod. I have a pan attachment as a backup, may see if we can put it to use.

    lake pleasant 2015

Good update! Heading out tomorrow. A few weeks ago we got blown off the lake in the evening after only catching 1 good large mouth in the afternoon. No bow fishing that night and the lake was very full. The wind is always a concern in Spring and can make fishing a nightmare. Hope we can find the stripers or white bass.

    Apache Lake

Well done! Great pics, I caught a giant carp on the smallest crappie jig I had last time I was at Apache last spring. Same deal as you described 2 hours of catching fish like crazy and then a 203 hour lull. Nver did find the smallies, good job!

    Bipod Help

I like that! Post some build instructions if you have time. I could see adding this to a Stoney point bipod as well.

8Lb jug of H1000 for sale

Get on the list at Bruno's up in N Phx. Or you could try Ramshot Magnum! I am a die hard H1000 user, even over Retumbo because it is so dang stable. Ramshot is the real deal very close to the same loads and maybe even more stable. It is also ball powder so measuring is extremely accurate. Bruno's had Magnum on the shelf last time I was there but only a few large jugs.

In Search of a Camo ASU Hat

You can wear a hat from the largest university in the United States or the largest University in Northern Mexico... your choice! Bear Down The act of a big, hairy man, mounting his "Cub". After some drinks and loosening up, Gary was ready to bear down on Scott. Urban dictionary... just saying... Internet don't lie!

    Rosevelt lake reports.

You will find them just stay at it. The crankbaits are a good way to cover a lot of area. I caught more fish on the small cranks, crappie style. We failed to catch a thing on dropshot or Texas lizards. I am beginning to think dropshot is not my gig since I have failed to slay them like other claim to on drop shot robos. Texas rigged lizard is my go to when things are slow but didn't pay off when we were there last month.

    New 6.5 SLR Build

Nice work! I still haven't dialed in the sweet spot on the 6.5-284 but the 2900FPS area was most promising for the 140 gr Bergers. Funny I stopped messing around with the 7mm RM just shy of the 3000fps as well. That gun has yet to miss a critter out to 550 yds and was drawing iron out to 1K yds on the 168gr VLD's. Makes we wonder why we try to get past 3K fps.

    Rosevelt lake reports.

We were there 3 weeks ago. All the fish we found that cooperated were 15-18" of water, rocky areas leading to the flats. From what we could gather they were staging on the flats and then feeding towards the banks. Spinner baits and shallow crank baits, sexy shad, shad, and bluegill pattern caught most of ours on cranks 6-8 feet of water. The spinnerbait bites were pretty random. We didn't catch squat in the trees and it seemed to be 1-2 hours of hits and then nothing for a while. We never did find the crappie and we drug minnows around in almost every spot we hit. Best luck was across from windy hill north before you hit all the mud flats. We did not hit the Salt end of the lake or the areas around the marina where the reports said the Crappie were bedding.

    Bipod Help

First thing is to thin of the areas you want to hunt. If it is high grass or thick desert laying down ain't gonna happen. We have hunted Mexico the last few years and no one has been able to lay down for any of the deer that have been shot do to the high grass. A lot of areas down south are this way. So the environment may limit your options. I have Caldwell, Harris, Stoney Point, and an older one that is silver matt aluminum that looked really cool with my stainless 300RUM. I like the Harris the best, the longer (I think up to 27") so I can sit and shoot which has proven more practical. Besides if I can lay down I can use my pack. Caldwell is a bit sloppier than the Harris. The Stoney Point broke but I liked the short bipod that was incredibly easy to take on and off, the rubber broke on a heavier rifle on the second outing. If you have big $ Atlas is the standard but they are limited in height. Shooting sticks, and the BogPod are also incredibly versatile. For my dad with 2 titanium knees the Bogpod has proven to be a God send, he shot this years deer at ~400yds one and done sitting in his tripod stool.

    Bowfishing Pleasant

I am heading out Friday. Probably around lunch to chase the bass and then shoot for a few hours after dark. I want to try the north end so I am going to head to the ramp on that side. First try I always put in on the south side but I want to see if we can locate some stripers or white bass. Let me know if you are going to head out.

    Need Help (Hunting Clothes Layering)

I have tried a lot of brands and there are a lot of good ones so I wouldn't get hung up on the names. Also may want to look at Kryptek & Core 4. I have seen some good deals on their stuff, the core 4 stuff I have is probably the best deal I have and great well thought out gear. I love Kuiu's pants, gloves, and rain gear, First light sweaters, Sitka is the one I haven't really tried. No matter how cool and stylish it is make sure it is comfortable. You will find yourself always grabbing what is most comfortable once you quit caring about the logos. I have some great gear I don't wear much because it just doesn't feel great compared to some of my other stuff.

    Need Help (Hunting Clothes Layering)

All good suggestions but the most useful thing I have for layering is an ultralight down jacket. It wads up into a baseball size lump for stowing and weighs near nothing. When you need it or start the day shake the heck out of it and put it on under your shell. It is very warm. Kuiu and a couple of other companies now make waterproof down. I currently use a mountain hardwear version in bright yellow which allows me to use it to show the other guys I am hunting with wear I am if we are glassing from opposite spots.

    new here.

Welcome! Check out the sponsors on the site. Also if there is a specific area you want to hunt then ask about guides who focus on or are located in that area. You can hunt these critters from high altitude in the pines all the way down into Mexico and some guides really specialize in certain units.

    Two Bear Rugs

Awesome! Pretty sure I saw them at Jim's during my last visit. They look great on the wall!
  24. That is fantastic! Congrats on a great trophy! I just talked to Jim and mine should be done by the end of April. My kids keep asking about it so everyone is excited about the bear.

    pedal boat

We just used one in San Diego and it was a lot of work and actually a pain to paddle. I would not want to be out in the wind without a trolling motor. I have noticed almost all of them at the lakes in the neighborhood have trollers on them. I think a fishing kayak would be a better bet if you are buying something. But if you have one free for your use then you can't beat that, I would give it a try.
