    knives

Usually carry a Benchmade for a folder on my belt. But I have completely bought in to the Havalon for field dressing but it is very limited for other stuff and I don't think I would want it to be my only survival tool. I also have a titanium neck knife that is a custom job I bought on the knife makers forum.

    what animals eat barrel cactus?

Yep I dont think cows have nerve endings. I have seen them eat cholla many times, and I am talking about the spiny crazy stuff nightmares are made of kind of cholla. Chomping away, peices hanging from their neck and mouth. I guess that kind of diet is why you need more than one stomach!
  3. Good info! I use MRAD but only because I started with it a long time ago and I am comfortable with mil dots/marks. I rarely use them for ranging or windage and have lost any ability to do this quickly. MOA is much more straight forward. Actually you dont need either if you are going to dial in off your drop tool/chart from your rangefinder as was pointed out. You can get custom tapes for your turret which is much cheaper and you get more than one altitude set up. http://customturretsystems.com/ As for the scopes you listed I think either will work. Even Zero Stop is really not that big of an issue and can be accomplished almost as well with a colored sharpy and a mark on your zero. We aren't sniping in the dark so you can usually take a look, you should always have your turret zeroed anyway so you know you are starting and your sighted in POI. Take a hard look at Sightron, Zeiss, Weaver, and Leupold as well. Sightron and Zeiss seem to be noticably clearer. My next purchase will be one of the newwer Sightron models. I currently shoot Leupold, Nightforce, Vortex, Bushnell, and Burris on various rifles/calibers.

    Food Packaging Gone Wrong

My kids would die laughing at that! Uranus - the gassy planet, wiener, but/butt , any burping or farting noise, usually gets them laughing... Of course as a mature father I never find those things funny. Seriously do you ever outgrow a laugh at stuff like that?

Ruger Super Blackhawk SS .44 Mag

What a cool looking piece! good thing my taxidermist took all my money...
  6. Great socks! As for liners I used to wear them but boots and socks are much better than 20 years ago and liners are a giant pain. Just make sure your boots fit and I think they are unnecessary.

    Healthy recipes?

I make the same recipe and it is awesome. Add berries, gluten free granola, shredded coconut, nuts, whatever to it and it is a great desert or snack.
  8. BMI charts are a good starting place and useful for the untrained body most people have. I also think Healy is correct most people grossly underestimate how much they really need to lose if they want to mostly get rid of a problem area gut, hips, etc. The other booger of a problem is those areas we want to see disappear tend to be the very last to go even when you are kicking butt and taking names. Overall I am right there with what str8shot posted, If you have even slightly above average muscle mass they don't make sense. I am 5'10" and 190 right now and would like to drop 8lbs, that specific because of a body fat goal. If I drop under 180 I will be in the magical realm of sub 10% bodyfat, which is a complete mofo to maintain if you have a real life. Every chart says I would be a borderline fatty at 180. Oh and here - here! Another vote for getting older sucks!

Where do you store your tag before hunting season?

Me too! until last year.,. last year they went in the pack all in one pocket. But I changed this year and put them in a lock box. Now I can forget them in complete security so when I am half way out of town I will no exactly where they are.

    Healthy recipes?

Protein cheescake is money! So are protein brownies and portien nut butter bars! Amanda's recipe is also almost perfect, dont get rid of the protein! Replace the cheese with tahini, yogurt, or humus and that would be a meal with a very good mocro breakdown and not many wasted/extra calories. Jalapeno Humus would be my choice. I like these sites for real food recipes, good stuff. http://nomnompaleo.com/recipeindex http://paleomg.com/#

Lung capacity and probably endurance. Do sprints if you can, you can start slow and build up, always walk, do jumping jacks, or something to warm up and try and do at least some stretching when you are done. Also stairs, biking or swimming, jogging if you must but long range running is awfully tough on your body in the long term. Sprints will also get you results the fastest and require the least amount of time investment on training days. Good article from one of the top trainers in the world on sprints for fitness. http://www.poliquingroup.com/ArticlesMultimedia/Articles/Article/989/Eight_Reasons_Everyone_Should_Do_Sprints.aspx

    Fitness- Natural vs. Synthetic Nutrition

HA! My wife cursed us all for bringing Bosa donuts home this weekend. Her quote "No one can see those dang things on the counter and not eat one, throw them away!"

    Current routine

I lift 3-4 days a week as well. I used to be extremely committed to my workouts and my diet was pretty tight but a houseful of teenagers and the crazy schedules we all deal with has made it tough. Posterior chain... posterior chain... It is incredibly important in general, and also for hunting, to lead with training the posterior chain. After a long battle with shoulder issues I had to admit, like most people, we train for looks first and health second. Regarding hunting, carrying a pack is brutal on untrained back, shoulders, neck, and hips having big arms, and chest are of limited use (but it might depend on what you are hunting ). No one mentioned sprints, potentially better than long bouts of cardio if you want to be in hunting shape. Think about the intermittent work you do hunting, it is not a race so you can stop most of the time to catch your breath and slow your heart rate, then your off again until the next ridge, wash, etc. I think the beachbody, insanity, etc. workouts are pretty good for an inexpensive get it done at home workout as well as getting in hunting shape. For me personally I need a gym and the focus, mindset, etc that comes with showing up there.

    Fitness- Natural vs. Synthetic Nutrition

Yes I think trophyhntr was just getting my goat per the norm and your both wrong. I lift 11oz However you did bring up an interesting point- steroids. Let me share a couple of picture with you and maybe shed a little light on the "protein" factor. Your body does not distinguish between synthetic protein or natural. It can only use what it is able to break down with protease enzymes. Beyond that it is called a waste protein. The pictures listed below are Red Blood cells which deliver oxygen to the body. Protein is extremely sticky, look at what it does to the cells and blood flow. Lines in the 3rd pic are calls spicuels or cystic fibrinogen. Those are what can lead to polyps, cysts and tumors. I realize you are talking about steroids but please clarify the difference between protein regarding digestion and protein issues in blood? I believe the picture is demonstrating protein issues that fall into the realm of clotting. Not trying to start the protein diet debate but seems confusing in regards to diet since high protein diets have been proven greatly beneficial. trphyhntr, when are the brownies going to be ready?

Wow! Do you shop using a roulette wheel? That is a pretty random shopping cart. Not judging I like everything on there but the Dew.

I think anyone who has not seen all the little .gif's going around the last few years with "do you even lift?" will probably miss your humor. I have teenagers and some of those pics or when they say it to each other it's pretty funny. Post made me laugh...

Found ANOTHER gun! And a gold ring!

Shocked that you didn't get a thank you, even more so for the ring. Yes, you did the right thing unlike the goofballs you were dealing with. Well done!
  22. Awesome! I would be jumping out of my skin looking for it in the dark, great job!

    Finally got a bear!

Thanks for all the congrats! Kidso, yes I am hooked! Bears are such interesting and unique critters, they are up at the top of my list with bighorns even just to watch them. The next challenge has to be to call one in. My lion rug was a cat I called in to less than 10 yard away and it was spooky. A bear would be even spookier to see coming for the dinner bell right to you.
