Winchester M70 270wsm VS 300wsm: Conflicted and need insight.
rcdinaz replied to deserttacoma84's topic in Long Range Shooting
Shoot em' ! If you like what you see with (good) factory loads you can usually improve with bedding and hand loads. Even then you could sell one and have a smith build you a semi custom off the one you keep. I want a 270wsm but if I had to pick would go with the 300. More components, more load recipes, and the ability to shoot a big old bullet if you decide you have the need. Winchesters are great guns, don't let anyone tell you different. -
My RCBS digital scale seems to work really well. You could use the electronic scale along with a beam scale and check each charge. The biggest issues I have seen cause problems are ceiling fans, AC, non-level surfaces. Also, some powders meter extremely well and some don't. Ramshot Magnum so far has proven awesome for me. It is right there in performance with H1000 and Retumbo but it is a ball powder so measures like a dream.

As far as I know you have to have it tagged with all of the paperwork for the wildlife mgr at the border along with the paperwork form the ranch.

"Larry, I got bit by a snake! please, please, please suck the poison out!" "Where?" whispers real close... "dang Joe!" "Okay but If you tell anyone I'll shove this antler so far up you @$$!" "Good Lord I hope nobody sees this!" And of course you got it all on camera!

Harbor Freight! You can get a vibratory tumbler for a lot cheaper than from a reloading place. Or if you want the cleanest brass ever get their tumbler and order the steel pins and lemi-shine online.

Aspiring Belgian model loses gig due to hunting picture...

This pretty much explains the level most of these geniuses operate at... I saw both of these ridiculous articles, of course Yahoo was celebrating the L'oreal one. -
Man I love these! Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because Chuck Norris only recognizes the element of surprise. A hunting one... kind of: Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird. Chuck Norris doesn't mow his lawn he just dares the grass to grow.

I have to get a pic of the new one up. The barrel has interrupted fluting like the others but the pattern is twisted. Twisted, interrupted fluting, looks cool.

Mostly looks and they are a little lighter. The debate rages on in regards to stiffness and cooling improvements.

7mm dakota: Rem action, Brux fluted, Vortex PST and the 7mmRM (not wildcat): Brux, Stiller Predator, Jewwl trigger, McMillan stock, Leupold MM IV,

I guess it depends on what you are calling a wildcat. I would go with a 6.5 or 338 for a wildcat since they are cartridges with somewhat limited options off the shelf. Currently my favorite caliber is the 7mm, seems to do everything well. 7mm RM does everything pretty well and I also have a 7mm Dakota. The 7mm Dakota seems to be VERY efficient, i can get 3000 fps out of 180gr bullet and it is not a massive Ultra Mag sized case. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with your new wildcat and once you find a load you like spend a weekend and load a bunch of them. Once I get a load dialed in I typically want to load 50-100 at a time. More room for error if I am trying to hurry and load 20 more at a time and it is a pain.

2 tags for 3a/3c, could be 2 very lucky young ladies. If my younger one got drawn 2 years in a row with no points I am finding a quick trip that will sell her some powerball tickets.

I wanted a beretta or binelli and ended up with an SX3 which just seemed a better fit. I shoot pretty well with it and yes I consider it a good all around gun even though I have 3 others. 3.5's are a bit pricey though but you can find smoking deals on used ones if your patient.

I have two daughters and we have tried a lot of different supports. My dad walks with a monopod with the v rest on top. My daughter shot her first deer at 12 off of it but it was inside of 150 yards. We practice off of a table, sitting off of sticks or bipod, and laying using backpack or bipod. I will always get them to lay down if I have the option. However laying down has yet to be an option, probably because I want them shooting at 300yds or less for now and on shorter shots stuff is always obstructing line of sites. If I carried only one item item would be simple shooting sticks.

Good idea on the mats! I will probably add the box. It was so much better driving with the seat I am not in a hurry. I was going to make a couple trips and see about the expanded metal needing additional support and add all my final changes I a couple of months. Thanks for all the advice!

So the new deck is two pieces so one person can put it on and off. The legs are adjustable from about 18" to 30". Trap door for the troller. It also has two pedestal seats which aren't in the pics. Overall I give the new one a grade of a B. The trap door and a few small things could still be smoother. But this is a huge improvement over my last heavy wooden deck.
