    Help with a new setup

No I have a family member and a friend I hunt with every year that shoot both rifles. Seems like a lot of lefty's shoot right handed because of how they learn. There are competition/varmint rifles that eject out of the opposite side, usually a single shot though. Now I would not try that with any type of semi auto but for a bolt gun no big deal if the stock is a straight stock. May have a small issue if the cheek piece does not allow good alignment. As for the remmy on sale you can usually duplicate the sale prices with a small amount of effort. I would keep checking on line, take a look at the forums, auctions, Bear Mountain, and buds gun shop. Locally most of the dealers are pretty helpful, Bear Mountain will order anything you like and keep it very competitive just tell them what you are seeing for comp and they will let you know how close they can get or if they can meet the price. All of this is not much work to get a proper fitting gun to build a rig that you will have the rest of your life.

    Help with a new setup

I just took a quick look and there are some nice lefty rifles on LRH that people are selling in your price range. Like this one: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f25/left-hand-custom-6-5-06-extras-114160/

    Help with a new setup

Start with a savage or Remington action once you determine what caliber you want to use. You could buy the whole rifle and just customize it as you go and put more money in your optics. A custom action is going to run $700 to over $1,000 on its own so that probably wont work. The other option is determining what you want and buying a used gun, for $2K you can get a really nice rig. A lot of guys are always building something new so you can get a rifle with very little use for a steal.

    Bowfishing

I am interested in hearing the same. I just started and just haven't figured it out yet. Would love to get out with a few others if anyone has plans and doesn't mind. I don't have lights yet, looking on to it. I got skunked at pleasant even seeing fish last month.

    Bartlet lake help

I was just there on Friday. The river is VERY low, yes I mean lake but it looks like a river. Pretty easy plan drive upriver as far as you can. I talked to 3 different guys that said they were killing the catfish. We chased bass and crappie, bass were slow but in the morning there was a good crappie bite around yellow cliffs. One more thing if you find a good transition spot to deep water (island, point, cliff) from shallow water the fish are stacked up big time. Right off the boat dock there is an island top sticking out, a lot of fish right there between the marina and the rocks. One boat we were by was fishing for cats and said they were doing okay just off one of the areas the fish were stacked on the opposite side next to another small island. I would net or take some minnows in case things get slow The crappie should be doing well with the more consistent weather.

  10. Good article covering your question. http://www.huntersfriend.com/carbon_arrows/hunting_arrows_selection_guide_chapter_5.htm The chart shows a 2.5" drop at 30 yards for every 50grains (@ 60lbs). So I would guess you would be about an inch or so and you look like you were close to 3" drop. Must be something else going on, spine flexing and losing speed? Not sure wait for on of the experts to chime in.

    Remount Mule Deer

That is awesome! My dad has a +50 year old mount with a smashed nose that needs the same treatment. It is plaster and news paper done by a taxidermist that I was told was really well know n in AZ, have no idea what his name was. I was not even sure it could be fixed.

    7mm or .308?

you must be referring to .270WSM.[/quote No a 270 win. This is what I get with my loads 270 130 gr sst drop 100 yds 2101 ft lbs 0" 500 yds 1127 ft lbs -50.3" 700 yds 800 ft lbs -124.5" 7mm rem mag 139 gr sst 100 yds 2265 ft lbs drop 0" 500 yds 1260 ft lbs -49.3 700 yds 913 ft lbs -121 So if this is a big difference the deer will never know. But with the recoil and extra weight and cost of ammo not that much difference for me the big difference is you can shoot the 162 or 168 gn bullets out of the 7mm. That is where the 7mm shines. Then that is where it indeed blows the 270 out of the water. also your speeds must be very slow to get the numbers you are getting for the 7mm. The 7mm shoots the 139sst anywhere from 3200-3300 fps. Which puts the drop and energy quite a ways off from what you stated. energy at 700 is around 1130 and drop around 99 " Yes, the .270 is not even close, and the figures are completely wrong even from the factory Hornady site the 7mm RM is @ 1,626 ft lbs at 500 yds. ~500 ft lbs yep I would say that would guess the deer will notice a difference on a less than perfect shot. Of course dead is dead. If you are after the "magical" 1K ft lbs of energy the 270 would be a 500yd gun and the 7mm RM a 750 yd gun. As pointed out you really have to compare the optimal wt bullet for the caliber. A 168 gr just under 3K fps in the 7mm will have that same energy out to 1,000 yds. For the .308 I would start the comparisons with 180gr bullet or larger and a 30-06 will be right there with the 7mm out to just shy of 700yds.

    Need Help! Not enough MOA????

I have to give my vote with others that have said you should have plenty of adjustment. With a 20 MOA rail I have never come close to running out of room on a vortex, luepold, or NSX even at 1,200? Something is not right for a 300 mag... 210 gr bullet @ 2,800 fps with a 300 yd zero should only need about 30 MOA for a 1K shot? 20 from the rail and only 9.5 left, even if you had it backwards you should have more than 9.5. I would test the scope count clicks all the way up and then all the way down, see what you get the center it and see how far off it is at 100. That should give you an idea how far the adjustment is off if it is just not there then send it back. If it has all the range then change rings and check that base again.

Good job! I like the fake leaves the red is a good contrast. A piece of manzanita would look cool also and the bark stays red andt he leaves stay green.

    remington 700 sendero

Sendero's are great rifles! I have a 300RUM in a mod 70 but i dont shoot it anymore. I shoot my 7mmRM and the 7mm Dakota, the 300 will eventually become a 338 Edge. I guess I kind of have to agree that I bought the RUM going for max velocity and the more I shot long range I decided it wasn't necessary. It is a special kind of LOUD on the range with a muzzle break. It is a fantastic tool for moving the rambo's throwing .223 or semi auto brass at my bench to the far side of their area.

    Best places to flyfish

I am going to go with in the water! The Black River was awesome before the fire! We are going to Lee's Ferry this week! Going to be tough to focus. One not mentioned was Lee Valley, you can catch Graylings which are pretty cool little trout. My favorite which I hate to recommend for summer is Carnero. You will need a tube or a boat/canoe to do that one, barb-less lure only.

    7mm or .308?

I grew up shooting a 270 maybe a little less recoil not sure about less weight. Remember you can load a 7mm down but you can't load the 270 up to match it. The other huge advantage is the 7mm and .308 probably have more bullets available than any other calibers you can find. For the record I think the 270 WSM is a really great cartridge. I am building a 6.5 right now which you could also make the same arguments for in 140gr bullet.

Awesome gun! Too many projects right now but I have had one of these on my list for a while...
  24. rcdinaz

    7mm or .308?

I think it really depends on how and what you hunt and the exact cartridges you are comparing. That being said I love my 7mm's!

    Interpreting Groups

Look for the Ramshot if you cant find the H1000. It has turned out to be a great powder for my 7mm and it is a ball powder so it is extremely easy to work with and meters very fast. My go to load now is Ramshot Magnum and the Accubond LR 168 gr. It is also every bit as stable as the benchmark H1000. Bruno's had it in stock last time I was there.
