I am going to go with in the water! The Black River was awesome before the fire! We are going to Lee's Ferry this week! Going to be tough to focus. One not mentioned was Lee Valley,you can catch Graylings which are pretty cool little trout. My favorite which I hate to recommend for summer is Carnero. You will need a tube or a boat/canoe to do that one, barb-less lure only.

I grew up shooting a 270 maybe a little less recoil not sure about less weight. Remember you can load a 7mm down but you can't load the 270 up to match it. The other huge advantage is the 7mm and .308 probably have more bullets available than any other calibers you can find. For the record I think the 270 WSM is a really great cartridge. I am building a 6.5 right now which you could also make the same arguments for in 140gr bullet.

I think it really depends on how and what you hunt and the exact cartridges you are comparing. That being said I love my 7mm's!

Look for the Ramshot if you cant find the H1000. It has turned out to be a great powder for my 7mm and it is a ball powder so it is extremely easy to work with and meters very fast. My go to load now is Ramshot Magnum and the Accubond LR 168 gr. It is also every bit as stable as the benchmark H1000. Bruno's had it in stock last time I was there.

My guess would be the barrel heating up as well. The only thing with your "form" could be if the barrel or other part of the gun is touching the rest differently after the recoil of the first 2 shots. You sound like you are pretty experienced so I am just throwing that out there. I see guys with the barrel touching the rest almost every trip to a public range. The powders you are using are fine but be aware that they are pretty temp sensitive. I use H1000 and Ramshot Magnum both in the 7mm RM and both are VERY temp stable powders.

I have 50 of them I can spare they are once fired.

I should have a bunch of once fired 300, may take a day or two I will let you know.

Always great to just kick back on the boat. I don't sweat it except when I have a kid with me, gotta keep that excitement level up there to keep em hooked.

Have heard Rosey is good! Went to Pleasant last Thursday and it was the first time in many years we were skunked. I hooked one fish land lost it in the sticks. Not even another bite all day. Never did find any schooling stripers or white bass. I am sure they are there but we couldn't find them. Good luck!

I am on my way out of town but have a box of 168gr Berger HVLD's I will not be using. They have been opened but I can assure you they are new you can tell from the foam. I thought I was going to need them but then found more Accubonds to continue my loading with. I am in Chandler if you have a way to get them let me know. You can shot me a PM.

They are asking about guns?!?! Do they ask about stairs, power tools, swimming pools. etc.? Where do you find a doctor that will skip this crap? There has to be plenty of doctors that also hunt that don't want to fill in this info as well. Guess it's time to find a doctor in show low or pinetop where hunting is a norm and not in the city. So much for privacy!

I am not too picky about the subject I just usually go to the reviews and the how to sections in all the mags first. Reloading, scope mounting/care/adjustment, GPS usage, any new tech, cleaning, cooking, travel plans, hunting other states, long range shooting, survival, taking young 'uns in the field. Maintenance on anything vehicle, gun, gear, trailer, ATV's, knives. Most have been done and I know how I do things but it is always nice to pick up new info, compare notes, get better. Example we all tie our shoes but a few of the backpacking sites have some serious articles on all of the different techniques to tie on a pair of boots and make them fit better, address hot spots, and keep them from becoming untied. Just crossing the laces on the last two sets of eyelets will keep the things tied all day long with no goofy double knots. Who knew and what an insanely simple change. I think one area where so many of the online mags could do better is having sections on to topics very clearly archived and indexed. This makes a search to find their stuff a giant PITA when it could be a great resource. I spend more time on this site than any because I know where most of the stuff is and we have a lot of people on here that like to help. Other sites that have a contest to see who can tell you to use the search function are a waste of time, you end up with a bunch of threads that have no info that you have to sift through when you do search. For hard copies I would love to see someone set up their how to sections so the pages can be removed and put into a binder. At the end of each year the magazine can print an index/table of contents. You could also sell an annual how to recap, more money! My dad had folders on this stuff. still has some of the old AZ G&F mag copies and info. I used to pull out all the reloading info when I first got started and keep them in a separate binder for the calibers I use or techniques I thought were improvements. Maybe all this is as easy as having the online version with printable pages that line up with some sort of table of contents that when printed fit in a binder. Sorry, turned into a much longer answer than it probably needed to be.

Well I would not say the Kuiu material is week, just not saddle cloth bulletproof. Mine looks brand new still, but I haven't run any races through the cat claw the two times I have had it out.

Me! I cant believe no Jr tags, no 15 pt goat tag, no nothing! Well now I know I can get really focused on bear season.

I have never been but I am trying to put together a trip to take my dad in April. He went as a kid a long time ago and has always wanted to go back. I have read a few sites about the trip and I have a boat but I am not quite sure how to tackle the trip. Probably fish for 2-2.5 days and stay at a campground. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I did not plan on getting a guide but if a couple of my buddies make the trip as well two of them said they were going to get a guide for at least one day. Thanks for any help!

Not exactly the same type of packs. The Kuiu stuff is very well designed to be as light as possible, I have an Icon. The Outdoorsmans packs are more in line with the Eberlstock packs. Both of them are built a little more like military spec gear, the only thing you could ever break on them would be the straps or buckles. The frame on the Kuiu is going to be a bit more fragile, you can break/crack carbon fiber not easily but it can be done. The Kuiu fiber is tough but as you mentioned it would be possible to snag where as the Eberle or Outdoorsman materials are like saddle cloth and are pretty bullet proof. But if it doesn't fit screw it no use in being miserable trying to make something work. So my advice would be first call Outdoorsman and ask them to give you a quick walk through on how you could better adjust and set up the pack. I really think you probably need one of each if possible, an ultralight and a super utility pack.

A few comments on the differences of eastern hunting. I spent a lot of time in NC and Georgia and have hunted in Indy and Minn. The guys in Indy laughed at my bino's and asked what I planned on doing with them. The family and friends we have had here from the east are always amazed at how different the terrain is. One of them swore after his first outing that God must have taken 90% of the rocks he made and placed them in AZ just for entertainment. He would literally comment on the size of the terrain and how rough it was every hour for 4 days. The hunting, even the walking and visibility is completely different. Many, many times there is absolutely no getting closer and if you did there would be no shot. The desert plant life tends to be very thick and low to the ground, you literally cant see things that are 50 yards away. We have played hide and seek with a number of deer and coues seem to be very good at hiding and not moving. If you do have time to scout or have a guide then it will be much different because then you can at least attempt a plan that will get you close.

You can use different size packs on the icon frame as well. The icon has more pockets and the ultra is the ultra-lightweight version so it has less material in the over all build. Based on the videos and tests I don't believe there is much difference in the weight you can vary with either. I have an icon one of the first ones delivered as part of their inner circle program. It is an awesome pack but I have only used it twice. My go to is still he eberlestock because of the scabbard. Kuiu has a rifle and bow carrying solution now as well. All of the Kuiu stuff has been extremely well made and I like everything about the company and the owners business model.

Awesome! We just saw one today on the way back from the lake. They are one of the coolest desert animals out there.

I did not realize the top of the river had a different bag limit so we will mind where we are. Oh and I will get a prop and make sure the wrench is in the box. I carry two anchors, may throw in another and a second long rope!
