Primers: I always used Fed 210's in both calibers but I dont think a specific brand matters as much in the small calibers as it does with the larger slower burning powders. Bullets: the Vmax in the 22-250 should be an easy one, my 22-250 shoots a lot of bullets well, that was one of the best. The Berger's in the 25-06 my take some more work with seating depth to shoot really well but if you find the recipe it will probably be very good. Powders: I have always been partial to the Hodgdon powders, the short cut powders are great. 4831 should be a good one for the 25-06 for sure. I just started messing with Ramshot for my magnums and love the ball powder for how easy it is to meter very quick and accurately. You may also find the Ramshot line easier to get depending on where you shop.

Funny stuff! Makes you want to get a mount like that on purpose, put a silly hat on it and a red, white, and blue "A" shirt on it!

My daughter drew her first tag ever, which ended up being a 3C rifle tag. I am VERY proud of this girl getting it done on her first hunt! Up at 4:30 and hanging in there all day long 4 days in a row. On top of that this trip was like a hunting version of National Lampoons Vacation. The trip almost ended before it ever began on a number of occasions. We got through it and ended up with a weekend she will never forget. I will share the very long story but figured I would start with the end and all the good stuff. We found our deer the last day and the last hour of our hunt (why does it work that way!). She missed once and then put one right through the lungs. She was able to get it done with her dad and Grandpa both right there watching which was just awesome. The ear to ear smile and her quietly telling us, I was shaking after I shot him was priceless! She asked if we could have it mounted, we did not hesitate to say yes. I am every bit as proud of this trophy and then some as I am any other on the wall. I am sure a lot of you can relate. The tarantula picture was jut a bonus. He crawled right into the some of the blood and was apparently waiting for his share of venison. Lots of people to thank, I will add them to the story as well.

I bit the bullet and started with a Dillon 550 but now have a redding turret. You can make plenty accurate loads for rifle on the 550 and it will be worth ever penny if you plan on cranking out pistol rounds in large volumes. Or go with the redding turret press, not as fast as the Dillon but will make very accurate rifle rounds as well the progressive pistol needs. Oh and the learning curve is not a big issue as you can get videos to show you how to load with anything you buy. As mentioned you will need additional equipment for case prep, cleaning, cartridge development, etc. Also check longrangehunting.com, 6mmBR, etc for deals on used equipment. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.

I use them everytime but I have psoriasis on my hands so can't imagine not using them. Nitrile or vinyl last much longer than latex and latex powder burns if you have any kind of cuts the others will not. Home Depot had black ones made by gear monkey that were a bit more durable than the blue ones.

Good info! I need to get a stereo back in mine since the last one was ripped off.

RCBS Chargemaster or Hornady Lock and Load
rcdinaz replied to palivs2hnt's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I use the RCBS and it works very well. I looked at both as well and found more mediocre or low reviews after scouring 3 or websites. I lot of them had to do with speed not accuracy so i am pretty sure they are pretty close. I dont even use most of the features on the scale as my process is very basic and I only use it for rifle cartridges 25-50 at a time. -
It may have been legal in the past or in another State. Yep my dad killed Javi's a very long time ago with a 22 short and 22lr. He said one fell down deader than a doornail, bullet to the heart. Surely I wold not advise it, as I am the guy in another post on the other end of the spectrum (300 RUM). I think a fox would be fine as they are not much bigger than a big jack rabbit. No one ever got scolded for killy jacks with a 22. If you are a good shot they will die all the same and last I check there is no degree of more dead that I have seen.

.300 Win Mag on Javelina...
rcdinaz replied to PelaPapas's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I shot 2 with a 300 ultramag. 180gr Nosler's. First one looked like it was shot by a laser. 1/2" hole going in and a golf ball hole right on through the other side. It dropped and never moved a muscle, literally looked like the air was sucked out of it. The other one I shot straight in the chest, looked like someone hooked it up to electricity fell down and just shook for a few seconds. Interesting that both had very little meat damage. I think it completely depends on where you shoot the animal. Like the rest of you I have seen a 243 destroy a shoulder and a lot of meat. Shoot 'em with what you got! -
I use my 15's the majority of the time, but I often carry them along with the big swaro spotter. I use my 10x42's the least but have found reasons to use them more and more. Carrying the spotter sucks but it makes looking at details and showing others in your party a lot easier. As to the original question, If I had to choose one it would be the 15's, the contest isnt even close.

Wow that looks great! Jim as soon as I knock one down with a good coat we are going to make one up like the bottom one to sit on top of my fire place. It will look like a house cat 15 feet of the ground but I am saving that spot for a cat. I think I would already have one but I cant keep the coyotes away long enough,

Tags for both my daughters next year, elk & deer! For me, knock down a toad on our January Mexico trip! For my wife patience and joy whoile being a hunting widow.
-
me too Me three! I havent shot it in awhile but have 22-250 in a savage. It was not too picky and I probably shot 6-7 different bullets through it. I loaded more of the Noslers for it than anything, they knocked down coyotes all the way out to just short of 400 yards. I am sure yours will claim plenty of yotes!

That is a great lookin deer! Congrats! Go Devlis!

I have two girls and they share a Tikka T3 lite in 243, Burris Fullfield scope with ballistic reticel. My 12 year old killed her first buck this year with it using Hornady 95gr Superperformance loads. I was too lazy to load and test rounds so when we took it to the range and it was well under 1" with factory ammo I was very pelased. My older daughter has shot everything 22-250, 243, 6x284, 7mm RM, 7mm DAK, 300 Ultra, 9mm, 45 ACP, 38, 357 and has been being it since she was 11. My younger one only the 243, I think it really depends on the kid. My oldest is probably less flinchy than I am and she just wants to shoot everything, total adrenaline junky. She really likes the full custom 7mm RM. We just started a custom build for them, it will be a conversion of the 6x284 to a 6.5x284 using the rem 700 action. Hart barrel, flute the action & barrel, B&C stock to start with (pink). This will also be the first gun with a supressor which I am working getting ordered. Looking at a Zeiss scope with Rapid Z to put on top.

Glassing mid day! Deer dont move in the afternoon, somehow they become catatonic and freeze solid. I hear a lot of people say morning and evening but I tend to see a lot of deer in the middle of the day. Kind of counter intuitive but in my last trip I switched from the 15's to the 10's in the afternoon and just scanned and found deer moving around. I guess the wider FOV is the way to go if they are moving even a little. I still use the 15's because nothing gives you self confidence glassing better than finding a bedded deer and if it is a buck game on! Nothing better than a bedded deer to increase success rate.
-
Sounds about right to me. I have noticed that I find a lot of deer bedded way up high in saddles that allow them to get out of the wind. Usually it is almost impossible to glass them in these areas but you will see them move occasional from one side to the other or in the evening when they decide to wake up and start moving around.

Yes everything works fine but it will be a lot of work. You have to take the bow completely apart, watch the videos. Most people just do the limbs & riser but some of them have done everything, cams included.
